War for Cybertron Kingdom Discussion The Beasts Return!

Man, if these are good, I could see myself building the season one crew in modern figures! I'll always have a soft spot for Beast Wars. I was a typical GeeWuner who was "Trukk not Munkkey" in the old days. The AlexKingdom opened my eyes to my silliness. It's just great stuff!

That's why I'm wary of the idea of realistic beast modes. They tried that with Cheetor and it looked awful.Immortal Starscream wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Though, the question that still remains is... Will it be good?-WonkoTheSane- wrote::KREMZEEK:![]()

nightmares of previous Cheetor toys suddenly come to mind X_X. Generations was not previously kind to him, at all.

I wouldn't mind if there were no Transmetals in Kingdom, I always liked the organic beast modes more when I was a kid, but I suppose no Transmetals would probably mean no Depth Charge or Rampage, unless those two are the only Transmetal style figures we get, which I'd be fine with ("Predacon Rampage" is a name that has been recently used after all).

We also need Fuzors for Quickstrike and the bird-dog. You can't do Beast Wars right if you're locked into organic alt-modes only.
The figure I'm most excited for that I didn't see on the poster is Inferno. The vintage toy was really good, but I'm sure the articulation could be improved with modern engineering.

Shoot... I’ve never been huge on beasts, but this is looking like the most promising trilogy yet! All three chapters look awesome!

A total Prime fanatic with a Beast Wars username. I know, it doesn’t make sense to me either.

Well, looks like this will be the first Generations line I will be likely entirely ignoring after many years of fantastic figures, except Bumblebee, if he gets released in this line instead of Earthrise.

I have briefly wondered about that.
On a note related to both of these, I came across this notion elsewhere:
Imagine if you will:
An Inferno with a propeller-butt that can't spin
A Dinobot with a rotating blade that doesn't spin
A Scorponok with molded-in missiles in his claw that can't fire
Rhinox with chain guns that can't spin
All these and more in WFC: Kingdom!
Such has been the nature of the current toys' utter lack of spring-loaded gimmicks since CW Megatron.

The few "modern" updates that BW characters have received over the years have, to me, been more "meh" than ol mate crossover Maverick, so I seriously hope they lift their game because I don't think the fandom is prepared for a mass disappointment of the BW kids.

I have the same opinion overall.. I think 10th Anniversary Megs was decent, and Henkei Dinobot based on what I've seen of him, Robotmasters Megs and Primal seem okay going by pictures, but the rest... 10th Anniversary Primasl was weird, Universe Cheetor sucked, Generations Rhinox, and Waspinator are basically lateral moves (except Waspy can't launch stuff, to my knowledge), Generations Rattrap has some flaws based on looking at him, PotP Optimal Optimus is hampered by the Evolution gimmick...Burn wrote:The few "modern" updates that BW characters have received over the years have, to me, been more "meh" than ol mate crossover Maverick, so I seriously hope they lift their game because I don't think the fandom is prepared for a mass disappointment of the BW kids.
Given how much Waspy, Inferno, and the spiders relied on ball joints for beast mode articulation, and the general eschewing of those in WFC, I wonder what they'll do for that. And of course the plastic limits might be harsher...
It's why I haven't exactly been gung-ho for updates of the BW characters (and am similarly "meh" on UT updates). With the bricks of the '80s, the updates will largely tend to be improvements. But from subsequent lines, where design had gotten better and toys had more integrated features? There's less to gain and more to lose.

You have to remember that that was under a different design lead that seemed to want to focus on doing something new whilst updating them; between wardens' teams diligence to design and TT's mp bw initiative, I can easily see these as being excellent; but, my expectations remain tempered until we see product

Personally, I don't care for a lot of the launcher gimmicks and such, so whenever a figure that had those initially, loses them in an update, I don't see it as too much of a loss. That's part of why I love getting the updates, because it means I don't have to try and hunt down the original and pay like $100 for it because it has all the missiles. I can understand why people want those gimmicks to be carried over, but to me, it's better to lose a gimmick if it means an overall better figure with more articulation. Especially because updates don't mean that the originals with those gimmicks lose value.

It would take a lot to improve over the originals.
Just remember what Warden & Co. did with Cybertron Optimus Prime. Their take paled in comparison to the original (which admittedly is one of the greatest designs of all time so it was near impossible to top)

Never considered that. And you know what? I can agree with it. As someone who pieced together a G1 Scorponok, tracking down the individual accessories to "complete" a figure is an absolute pain in the arse. As near complete as my BW collection is, a couple of figures are still missing their accessories and I just can't be arsed tracking them down and shelling out a stupid amount for a tiny piece of plastic.

Having both the original Waspy and the generations one I greatly favor the latter version. Wish I managed to snag the Japenese one, though. Launching missing are VERY overrated. Good riddance.
I don't have the original Rhinox, but ...

I mean it does seem much improved just going by pictures.
but the newer Cheetor and Dinobot? Yeah, those are old toys that even I can't really get behind. Dinobots' ... okay ... but Cheetor was a mess.

You speak as though launching missiles are some kind of cursed amulet that blocks a figure from having good articulation and transformation engineeringGauntlet101010 wrote:Having both the original Waspy and the generations one I greatly favor the latter version. Imagine if you will:

A Dinobot with a rotating blade that doesn't spin
A Scorponok with molded-in missiles in his claw that can't fire
Rhinox with chain guns that can't spin
All these and more in WFC: Kingdom!
There's also a worry about parts that should spin (and which originally had lovely spring-loaded spinning gimmicks) not spinning, not even freehand spinning like TR Highbrow's rotors or SIEGE Springer's rotor. And the complaint about Scorponok's missiles wasn't just them not launching, but also being relegated to molded-in detail (so, not even detaching like SIEGE missiles do).
The kibble compression has greatly improved, yes. That being said, the omission of the maces from his weapons is actually show-inaccurate and the original mold fares somewhat better when you compare, say, the Telemocha deco:Gauntlet101010 wrote:I don't have the original Rhinox, but ...
I mean it does seem much improved just going by pictures.

The kibble compression and redistribution on Generations Waspy, Rhinox, and Rattrap is a neat trick, but the tradeoff is it actually dings them a little on show-accuracy. Oh, sure, the Season 1 models cheated like hell by treating the beast kibble panels like flexible skin on armatures so that they could flatten more, but they were still in the same places.
Dinobot is massively improved by the Henkei deco, and at least he had the design coal of being as show-accurate as possible in both modes. Whereas Cheetor was "Realistic cheetah-mode proportions at the cost of everything else"Gauntlet101010 wrote:but the newer Cheetor and Dinobot? What are your thoughts on 10th Anniversary Deluxe Megatron?
I'm worried about the Beast Warriors suffering under the constraints of the current system because of the mass of their critter kibble and how some of the transformation engineering (on the new and the old) relies on ball joints - which Warden's team are deliberately eschewing on Deluxe-and-up figures.

I just agree with Sentinel_Primal on firing missiles. They go in a bin and I hope I don't lose them. When I was a kid they were quickly lost.
So I don't miss 'em. rotation gimmicks are better. But their loss doesn't mean the old figures are better.
10th Anniversary Deluxe Megatron - I have the Cybertron version ... it's a fun toy. I mean it's not accurate at all, but it's so fun to pose and transform. I like him a lot.
I don't have Primal and the look turns me off. Maybe he's fun too, I wouldn't know.

*shrug* Perhaps, perhaps not. But things that used to move and bend getting reduced to static dummies feels like a downgrade - especially when it happens to things like beast mode limbs. And that's what I'm worried about happening with the Beast Warriors. Especially with the mass limits having tightened some even since 2013.Gauntlet101010 wrote:I just agree with Sentinel_Primal on firing missiles. They go in a bin and I hope I don't lose them. It's a lot more accurate in the 10th-anniversary deco or the United deco. After all, it's basically the original design downscaled to a Deluxe, except with the tail detaching to reveal a clawed gauntlet (which seems to have been a planned feature for the original Ultra-rex Megs).
The look puts me off too, and I don't have him. He's this weird amalgamation design, instead of being based off his Season 1 bod like Megatron.Gauntlet101010 wrote:I don't have Primal and the look turns me off. Maybe he's fun too, I wouldn't know.
