Here's an idea I don't remember having ever heard - what if different tactics increased in upgrade costs at different rates?

I don't think it would be possible to program, but I'm curious if that could be used to balance things.

Avoid would start off comparatively expensive, for example, and then level off, while strafe would work the opposite way.

For those wanting to visualize, imagine your xp investment on the y-axis and your number of upgrades on the x-axis. Avoid's curve would start really steep but then become nearly flat. Strafe however would start off flat, and then become extremely steep (a distorted version of the curve we have right now).

Weapon: Black Magic
Avoid kinda does already, but not as much as your idea.
Currently at L0-2 the 50 points adds to your xp in noticable amounts. Between L3-5 its benefit is more based on ignoring a melee strikes damage as the 50xp is worth very little, and from L6+, due to most attacks being tactic based, its pretty much useless.

Strafe however is deadly from L4-5 onwards, (but requires a bit of luck.)

A tactic avoid is what is needed past L6...

I'm not talking about the benefit of the tactic, I'm talking about the cost.

Avoid is strong at the beginning, and week at the end, so it's upgrade cost should reflect that (vice versa with strafe).

Currently, the model for the tactics' xp cost is it doubles every time, so if you start at 1,000:

1st pt: 1,000 x2 =
2nd pt: 2,000 x2 =
3rd pt: 4,000 x2 =
4th pt: 8,000 x2 =
5th pt: 16,000 x2 =
6th pt: 32,000 x2 =
7th pt: 64,000 x2 =
8th pt: 128,000 x2 =
9th pt: 256,000 x2 =
10th pt: 512,000 x2 =

But if avoid was more like:

1st pt: 1,000 x3 =
2nd pt: 3,000 x3 =
3rd pt: 9,000 x2 =
4th pt: 18,000 x2 =
5th pt: 32,000 x1.5 =
6th pt: 48,000 x1.5 =
7th pt: 72,000 x1.25 =
8th pt: 90,000 x1.25 =
9th pt: 112,500 x1.125 =
10th pt: 126,562

And strafe was more like:

1st pt: 1,000 x1.5 =
2nd pt: 1,500 x1.5 =
3rd pt: 2,250 x2 =
4th pt: 4,500 x2 =
5th pt: 9,000 x3 =
6th pt: 18,000 x3 =
7th pt: 54,000 x4 =
8th pt: 216,000 x4 =
9th pt: 864,000 x4 =
10th pt: 3,456,000

Perhaps that would be more balanced?

If it's useless, you could give it away for free and it'd still be faulty. I don't want a toaster that doesn't work, even if you hand it to me at no cost. I mean, then it's not a toaster, it's a breader, and avoid is just something you throw on for some cheap stats cause you decided you wanted jet and animal alts for your level 5s until the rotator throws in a 9th ram/repair alt so you didn't duplicate alts on your team.
I miss fun HMW... :(

Basically, what we need is a fix that lets avoid work on tactic attacks when you hit about 6 or 7 points in it.

what we need is for avoid to be fixed to work agianst everything from the begining, and have strafe work so that it's First shot does the same base damage as ram, and have 2xfollowing shots for each point in FRP aimed at everyone at a 10th of the damage of the first shot.


oh and have rams base damage have its min raw damage taken up to soewhere sensible, 15-2 or there abouts. and have stun majorely nerfed.


and i think have ALL tactics cost 1k for primary, and 4k for the secondary. don't mess with the rates of increase, it would take LOTS of trial and error to get it right, and as i mentione dwith the weapons/brawling thing it's just breaking a bit of the game in order to balance it with another broken bit, rather than fix the original problem.

I don't think making avoid work against everything would work, it would break the game. It is now a very powerful tactic available, making it work against tactics would require some nerfing on it too, like taking away the extra xp/energon it provides.
Making armor work against everything - that would be a better solution.

oh definetly kill the avd payout if it works against everything. i' not too sure about armour working against everything a 90% reduction in damage would be more game breaking than 60% chance of negating it.

I know this was mentioned a long time ago, back among the first times avoid was complained about, but why not just scale the XP reward up as you avoid high level bots? XP goes up for hitting them, why not get more XP for avoiding them?

i've always though avoid should pay you the xp the enemy would have got if they had hit you, so if you're a level 7 hit for 50% health it would be shed loads, but if you're a level 0 hit for 9% it'll be tiny.

Agreed. Maybe more clearified stats on weapons and armor for people not familiar with the game and how about and icon or something on the weapons page to give an idea of what the particular item looks like?

I'd prefer not. the ambiguity of what weapons look like is great, and ripe for creative interpretation, combat drones for example; sustain had a combat drone that was essentially a tiny little robot pilot, while mine was a giant headless body, while others where Tau like floating discs with guns, or shields. or retracrable mecha-fangs yes they're ratbat's weapon and it's quite humerous to have vampire seekers, buy you could also interpret it as a nataku gundam type weapon.

And then there's the Craoí Dubh Engine. I invented the bastarding thing, and was one of only two people in the game using one before the reset, and I still don't quite know what it is.

its gealic or some other drunken language for engine of darkness or somthing similiar, i imagine it's a sort of soul egde/calibur shape shifting weapon to a form most suitable to the weilder

Interesting... I imagined the Chaos Blades at first as upgraded training-weapons that change form at random...
