It's sort of became quite boring now to see these S7 guys making a joke out of themselves. And they seem to take about half of the movie away.
This new movie has really a big impressive impact on the first 5 times i watched it. I still like the realistic design of the robots. But there's way too much drag about these S7 guys, too much unrelated conversations and interactions among the military guys (spanish thing, baby on webcam), very bad portrayal of sam's folks... everybody keeps on talking except for the real stars in the movie, the Transformers.
Not to mention a lot of bad script for the robots themselves.
Such as...
*Jazz just parking around when Bumblebee was badly hit and had to crawl.
*Prime saying "Autobots, roll out!", then every bots started to jump and hop around from the top of the white building. He could have just said "Autobots, move out!".
*Bumblebee, finally able to speak, seeks permission to stay behind with the boy. A minute later, all of the Autobots stayed behind with the boy anyway. What's the point of the permission? Just for empty dramatic effect.
*Bumblebee, badly hit, refused to use the power of Allspark, (which by the way, was sitting sparkling in his hand), to heal his own leg. Again, just for empty dramatic effect.
*Sam and Mikaela falling down from Prime's shoulder (under the bridge), and Prime swinging his feet down, purportedly to catch them, should have already delivered a death blow to the couple! If not, at least, massive injuries and broken ribs. What is Prime thinking? Imagine those large METAL feet, could easily kill fleshings on even moderate speed impact. Prime is a car/truck, and he doesn't know that? Miraculously, both human fell thru unharmed.
*S7 reinforcements coming, all Autobots must make a quick get away. And Prime chose to stay in bot mode, put Sam and Mikaela on his shoulders, then run and swing around like Tarzan? This scene makes no sense at all. Here's a chance to make good use of his DISGUISE, and he chose not to.
*Jazz uttering "you want a piece of me?" while in the clutches of Megatron. Every Autobot, except Prime, trembles at the sight of Megatron, and the SMALLEST of them all taunts him while being held in his claws? Who the hell wrote these scripts?
*Sam make a dash for the tall white building. Ironhide runs close behind to protect him. Why didn't Ironhide just transformed and gave Sam a quick ride? They'll arrive in seconds, and be much safer for Sam. Plus no chance of accidentally dropping the Allspark, or Ironhide stepping on Sam nor the crying lady. What's the use of being a kick-ass pickup truck, when you don't use it anyway at the most crucial moment?
Plus more and more... i could rumble on endlessly. Anyway, i guess you get the point.
Overall, TF 2007 has about only 30% of the movie really worth watching. This 30% is very good stuff. Unfortunately, dragged down by the rest of the 70% crap.
I hope Bay and the rest of the TF movie big shots will consider avoiding all these same pitfalls on Movie #2. Otherwise, hope of Movie #3 may just simple die, just like Cybertron.
Initially, i gave equal scores to both old and new movies.
Old being big on story and character development, new being winner of best ever graphics and effects.
But reevaluating the facts...
TF 1986 - 80% good stuff, 20% boring stuff
TF 2007 - 30% good stuff, 70% boring stuff
I'd say, TF 1986 seems to still have the edge.
