We brought you a video review over the weekend of the second wave of Transformers: Robots in Disguise Legion class figures, featuring Grimlock and Sideswipe - but why not take a second look at both of them, alongside the three-step Hyperchange Optimus Prime?

In April 2014, an online streaming service, similar to and rivalling the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and Hulu Plus made its way to the surface of the tubes: Tubitv. You can read more about its launch here.
What is relevant to us today, however, is the fact that Hasbro Studios, after ending its agreement with Netflix, seems to have allowed several of its programming to be streamed via the ad-supported site! This is definitely true for Transformers Generation 1, taking the spotlight on the main Family Entertainment page, but also applies to Armada, Cybertron, Energon and Animated - will we see Transformers: Prime and Beast Hunters joining them too?
It looks like Jim Sorenson took the weekend to update his Disciples of Boltax blog with another section of behind the scenes tips on the Allspark Almanac, adding to the post we reported on the other day! Check out the blog here - it includes parts of the Addenda, from the Transformers Club magazine and the Stunticon Job story.
Summer of 2011... Animated had come and gone, and then Fun Publications went and did an awesome BotCon set featuring the Stunticons and a few other new Animated goodies. I even got asked to write a few of the tech specs for the lithograph. Pete Sinclair and I got to talking and one thing led to another and soon Bill and I had been tasked to write a 16 page AllSpark Almanac Addendum, featuring the events and characters and places of The Stunti-Con Job and Moving Violations. The big constraint was that they wanted about half of the pages devoted to covering BotCon itself, which we did in the style of the Part II, out-of-universe material.
They were pleased with our work, and agreed to give us a few pages in the club magazine itself to continue the theme. We did six more pages the next year, though it never was quite the right time to revisit the format... until now, that is!
We've seen a couple of iterations of the new Robots in Disguise Grimlock already, and very little of newcomer Sideswipe - but why not venture in the still very little realm of Legion class figures for this weekend? After the Wave 1 RID Legion figures left me a touch flat, I was hoping that Grimlock and Sideswipe would really wow me. While the paint details and overall design is top notch. They just didn't grab me. Sideswipe is your standard car design but the paint is the same metallic red that was found on Legends Windcharger. Grimlock has an inventive transformation that takes it cues from the Warrior figure, but comes off very stiff. Overall I recommend going for the Wave 2 Warriors before these Legion figures.
Seibertronian ScottyP is at it again, as his ventures in North Carolina led him to a Target in Knightdale, only to discover the recently revealed Feature Bots from the Transformers: Rescue Bots line. The two vinyl characters with action features, spinning drill on Boulder and axe chopping action on Heatwave,were priced at $4.99 each. Check out the image below for proof.
Following up to the first part of the Unicron.com interview with Transformers Prime, Beast Hunters and Robots in Disguise producer Jeff Kline, we have copied below a second part to the same interview, in which he sheds some light on the tone and setting of the Robots in Disguise series. We've even removed the all-caps, below.
Robots in Disguise is definitely a lighter, more comedic take on the Transformers universe. There’s no ancient war being fought, meaning we can actually take the time to set-up a joke, and not feel guilty about it. Bee is front and center. Pptimus’ status is more mysterious than sorrowful. And there’s a younger, more inexperienced (aka less battle-weary) cast of characters.
With the arrival of the Complete Allspark Almanac hitting soon, co-writer Jim Sorenson has updated his blog Disciples of Boltax with an overview of the second volume in its first iteration, covering some of the behind the scenes of the book, page by page. They include references to TV shows, comics series, videogames, self-referential lines and more Transformers goodness - and you can read them all here!
A while back, Bill Forster and I did a series of posts called Secrets of the Almanac. We went behind-the-scenes on all of book 1 and about a quarter of book 2 and shared our thoughts. I figured, with The Complete AllSpark Almanac just a few weeks away, I'd pick up where we left off. I'll just ramble on about what I remember, and especially anything that Chris McFeely missed in is excellent (and flattering) Annotated Almanac II. By-the-by, here is Part One of Secret of the Almanac II, and here are parts one, two, three, and four of book 1.
We're bringing some more Transformers: Robots in Disguise news, in the form of another video review of one of the toys from the line - and in this case, a wave mate to the Optimus Prime we showed earlier: Warrior class Drift! Check out the embedded clip below, and fellow Seibertronian chuckdawg1999's thoughts on it too.
Drift is a fantastic figure and probably the best RID figure released thus far. One thing that impressed me right away was the swords being made of a solid, stiff plastic; after all these years it's nice to have melee weapons that aren't bent right out of the package! Something that you may not be expecting is an added horizontal wrist joint that allows for some more dynamic sword poses, while it's nice I would have preferred a vertical joint for better sword pointing. All in all this is a better figure than Prime and I would recommend picking it up first.
In other Transformers: Robots in Disguise toy news, a strange listing on the French Hasbro site, under Littlest Pet Shop, has given detail on three upcoming One-Step figures of characters from the show. Ramping up the Decepticon side, Thunderhoof and Fracture, and a brand new orange Drift joins in too. Read on below for a very brief bio for each, translated from the French!
