Hasbro revealed with their
Transformers Power of the Primes product descriptions that the SRPs for the line were going to follow the price hike seen in the Transformers: The Last Knight toyline. The price hike wasn't felt too badly in the US due to there being a healthy competition in the toy market and stores like Walmart not changing their established price points from previous lines, along with the fact that the price hike in USD was not as egregious as, say, 30-100%. However, in other countries, like Australia and Canada,
the price hike was massive, and felt throughout the fan community of these respective countries. For instance, Canada's price for deluxes went from $20 to $30 which is a 50% increase in price (This also comes to show how having fewer competitors in a market can wreak havoc for consumers.)
So the fact that Hasbro's SRPs for the Power of the Primes line was showing the same SRP as the Last Knight toyline
was alarming. Thanks to the
very first listings from a big box retailer, on Toysrus.ca, we now know that the Power of the Primes toys will not be following the price hike for the Transformers: The Last Knight toyline. They will instead keep their $20 for deluxe, $30 for voyager and $60 for leader price points which sure beat the respective $30, $40, $75 price points for the current movie line (all prices in $CAD of course).
What is interesting to see here is that this may indicate that the price hike may not have had a positive impact on toy sales and thus lowered. We already saw signs of this when both Walmart and Toysrus, the only big box toy retailers in Canada, lowered their prices for the TLK toys at the same time to better fit the prices of previous lines. It is unknown if that means Hasbro is still selling them at the same unit price as previous lines or at a higher price (accounting for their higher SRP) but retailers choosing to sell for less, which is the case with deluxes in the US at the moment. We still do not know how the US SRP will be reflected in other countries who had a major price hike with the movie toys.
Also, the listings give us the SKN numbers for three different classes:
Leader: 368657
Voyager: 368655
Deluxe: 368652
This can come very handy when asking if a toy from this particular line is in stock.
