Here is some information we just received from our friends at Toys R Us regarding a new reissue of the very popular Masterpiece Optimus Prime (MP-10 Convoy):

From Wednesday, July 19 (preview night) – Sunday, July 23, conventioneers and online shoppers can find Masterpiece Optimus Prime (MP 10) at the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343) and online at Toysrus.com/ComicConvention.

You can view our entire line up of SDCC exclusives below and at our blog – No Assembly Required.

During Comic Con, attendees can follow @ToysRUs for boots on the ground coverage from the show in San Diego. We’ll feature exclusive content from some of the most talked about panels and provide up-to-date info that fans won’t want to miss.

The following Toys“R”Us exclusives will be available at the Comic Convention (Entertainment Earth booth #2343) from Wednesday, July 19 – Sunday, July 23, and online at Toysrus.com/ComicConvention from Thursday, July 20 – Sunday, July 23. These items will also be available at Toys“R”Us stores nationwide later this year.

TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Optimus Prime (MP10) from Hasbro

This TRANSFORMERS Masterpiece Optimus Prime collectible figure will definitely be a favorite among TRANSFORMERS enthusiasts at this year’s show. The figure is an MP10 variant and the perfect Masterpiece figure for any fan to start their collection! The figure features a unique color variant inspired by the original TRANSFORMERS: GENERATION 1 animated series. Featuring a high level of detail and intricate articulation with poseable fingers, the figure stands at 9.5 inches when in robot mode and converts between robot and truck modes in 24 steps. The Masterpiece Optimus Prime comes with numerous classic Optimus Prime accessories including the Spike Witwicky figure, Orange Energy Axe, Matrix of Leadership, Ion Blaster Rifle and Roller Unit. The Matrix of Leadership accessory is comprised of mostly die cast metal and a blue, gem-like center which can be carried in the figure’s chest. Fans can fold the Ion blaster Rifle in half and store it in the figure’s back. The Masterpiece Optimus Prime figure also comes with a trailer that converts into a battle station and a repair bay. Rubber tires are also included.

No need buy this figure again I will stick with original good luck who does want him and to buy in store

I could care less about the box. I saved $30 bucks on Takara MP Thundercracker with a banged up box. I started collecting MP late in the game and the only reason it was still available was because of all the picky mint box collectors lol. Thanks guys.

I just paid for a MP Ramjet with a dinged up box! He's sure as hell not staying in the box either.
I also paid for a MP Dirge, but that's through Premium Collectables so the chances of it even arriving, let alone in mint condition, are pretty remote. Fuck you PC.

Man, this is tempting, but I don't know if I can justify the price tag to myself. They are doing a regular mass-retail release of this, right? If so, there might be hope of a sale. Might pick it up then.

Yes, I collect box variants. If it's new, I'll open it gauranteed. If its simply a box variant, I might still open it if I want to display a second one for any reason.

Yes I care if the box is damaged, BUT it's not the end of the world if it is. The way I am with my MP collection is, I need the box and it needs to be complete, and if I had to put a number on it, it'd have to be 7/10 condition.

All that said, I'm not buying Dirge to keep MISB. This hasbro MP-10? I'll likely be leaving sealed. I don't currently see a reason to open it. So yeah, I'll try to get a mint box. But I will take whatever I can get.

YOTH aside, there's no reason to believe Roller isn't included.

Regular mass retail release.... in the sense that all the other TRU MP's are. So he could prove quite tricky to find. I would seriously advise against the "wait for a sale" strategy.

Gotcha. I might watch the SDCC stuff, see how quickly he's selling. If I pass on my SDCC chance, I'll probably go for him if I find him in any of the local TRUs.

Hasbro Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime is now in Toysrus Stores in Canada. This particular sighting by cybertron.ca member MULTIPLEX comes from a store in Kitchener Ontario. His price is now $229.99 CDN. While the price looks really high, especially compared to the initial release of $100 in both Canada and the US, the price of subsequent releases have increased. This is comparative to the recent Hasbro Asia rerelease which priced the toy at $160 USD which converts to around $200 CDN (and using Hasbro Canada's 20$ off coupons will get you to enarly tha same price). It is easy to assume that this toy will thus have a similar $160 USD price point when released in the US.

Another fun tidbit is that Hasbro keeps the original Takara numbering of MP-10 and while that could have worked with their own reset (with MP-01 being Acid Storm), the previous release in this Hasbo MP line was Bumblebee at MP-08. Might there have been an additional MP release planned between Bumblebee and Optimus, sporting the MP-09 numbering? Feel free to speculate.

Kinda wish I waited. I ponied up 160 for the Asia reissue. As we've discussed, the packaging for that is terrible. I wonder if the legs on the reissue tab better in truck mode.

yeah it looks designed to be discarded like a Rescue Bot package. I always found that a super odd choice.
