Seibertron.com staff admin El Duque has spotted a very interesting article on his hounding travels, from the games section of VentureBeat, a tech and business news blog. The site had a chat with Jagex chief executive officer Mark Gerhard, and they talked about various topics, some of which have been previously reported, such as the Decepticon-Autobot disparity and the gameplay style - make sure you head to the official Seibertron.com thread for the game for more!

In other news, however, Gerhard has an intriguing point about their collaboration with Hasbro. Read on below!

Jagex has created all the original Transformers featured in the game — such as Duststorm, Firebreaker, and Showdown — from scratch, working closely with brand owner Hasbro.

“The IP [intellectual property] has been going for the last 30 years,” said art director Gerard Miley, pointing out that Jagex was free to draw on the entire range of Transformer generations for inspiration. “Universe is a key word,” he added, while also noting the key influence of the Transformers Prime animated television series. “The DNA of Prime is in our game,” he said.

Hasbro has no Transformers manual to use when creating a new bot, “so it’s really just studying the visual language of it,” said Miley. “Using clever shapes and a little bit of trickery to get the transformations working.”

[...]

Working so closely with Hasbro has yielded some great cross-promotion opportunities for Transformers Universe.

“It’s been a tremendous relationship,” said Gerhard. “They’ve been really blown away by how we’ve paid homage to the brand.”

With that in mind, Gerhard told me that Hasbro “has taken a number of bots we’ve created and turned them into a toy line.”

The toys won’t interact with the game, as we’ve seen with titles like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, but their presence on toy store shelves will be a great boost to the Transformers Universe brand as well as vindicating the quality of Jagex’s original Transformer designs.

While Hasbro itself is “superkeen” to promote the game on this toy line, Gerhard is wary that most of the people who buy the toys are quite young. He wants the game itself to be well received within the industry and with older gamers before leveraging the “extra footfall” that the toy line would create. “I think it’s a fantastic enhancer,” he said.

While this is the first official confirmation we have about a Universe game-based toyline, it does not come as that much of a surprise - after all, we've already seen some odd bolts cropping up in the Transformers: Prime (RID) line. Remember them?

As other members of staff have also pointed out, the game has been in development limbo for ages, and we've heard and seen from one of its concept artists previously too, with clear Prime-esque concept designs too. Transformers News: New Transformers TV Series Debuting in 2015 - First Look at Bumblebee

LOS ANGELES - The Hub Network, champions of family fun and the only network dedicated to providing kids and their families entertainment they can watch together, announced today that a new animated series is currently in production for the globally renowned TRANSFORMERS brand. Set to debut in early 2015, the new action-packed series is being produced by Hasbro Studios, the production and distribution division of Hasbro, Inc., and is executive produced by Jeff Kline ("Transformers Prime," "G.I. Joe Renegades").

Taking place years after the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in "Transformers Prime," this all new series centers around our hero Bumblebee stepping up to lead a brand new team of Autobots. The show features an all-star cast with Will Friedle ("Boy Meets World") returning as Bumblebee, along with Darren Criss ("Glee"), Constance Zimmer ("House of Cards") and Ted McGinley ("Married with Children"). Blending 3D characters with hand-painted environments, the series mixes action-packed adventure with lots of comedy, making it a rip-roaring experience for kids and families to enjoy together.

This is a big year as the TRANSFORMERS brand celebrates its 30th anniversary. The Hub Network will also be celebrating the success of the franchise with special events to be announced later this year.

CM's Corp, the company behind the previously released officially licensed Gutto Kuru Minelba and Ginrai figures, has filed for bankruptcy. According to Yahoo! Japan they filed for bankruptcy on March 3rd, citing low sales and an inability to move a backlog of older merchandise. At the time of the filing they were reporting a debt of over 400 million Yen. How this will effect the pending release of their Excel Suit with Spike and Daniel set remains to be seen.

We first reported on this artwork a year ago, in a Hasbro catalog for Beast Hunters. Back then we were overwhelmed by the amazing figures that were soon to grace our shelves, such as Shockwave, the Predacons and Abominus!

You can see the original article and catalog scans by clicking this link here.

The artwork was said to be Shockwave's notes on the Predacon project and it looked like your usual Hasbro fare, with Autobot symbols adoring the pages. However, it turned out to be some rather high quality art and the artist has finally been revealed.

John Forcucci has posted a page on his blog, showing off his original works plus the finished Hasbro product, and it's an impressive mini gallery of fine work.

Also of note, you'll see that the Skystalker/Skylynx mold was originally going to be named Stormrazor! The mini gallery contains line drawings of Predaking, Twinstrike, Hun-Grr, Blight, "Stormrazor", Grim Wing, Windrazor and Rippersnapper.

We've mirrored the images below, but please give Mr. Forcucci's site a visit, take a look at some of his other works.
