I misread the news title as Frank Welker having passed away.

Last year's Primus Package was $395, and it gets more expensive each year.philswitch engage wrote:So how much are the golden ticket and primus packages?
The Golden Ticket upgrade is an additional $300 added to the Primus Package, so last year it was $695.
So this year, Primus Packages should be over the $400 amount, with Golden Tickets being over $700, and the Frank Welker VIP Pass added to both being over $600 and over $900 respectively.

Please. Britney alone has almost 9 times his net worth, Avril 3 times. Frank is a successful voice actor and well renowned in the industry, but he's no celebrity. Paying over $300 alone for a Primus package is rough as it is, but then paying absorbanent celebrity prices for nostalgia purposes only? Well, anybody can spend their money how they wish as long as they're happy, but either Frank is asking for an absurd paycheck from FunPub to the point they have to charge extra to cover costs, or FunPub found another way to milk fans... neither are swell options

That may change after this little venture! Suppose the man needs to make a living.
If you have the money and the desire to meet him then go for it but this seems like a money making device to me and has nothing to do with thanking the fans in any way.

I'm hoping this is a joke. Other wise I'll just chalk it up to different priorities and tastes in music.

I plan on doing the Welker package, but I also plan on putting the toys from botcon up on ebay to help cover the cost. I also love in the Chicago suburbs so I don't have to worry about travel or lodging costs.

Yup and Peter Cullen was $180 dollers to meet and greet at the Calgary comic convention this year which was only last weekend and I was able to go but never got to meet him due to the absurd price.
Which sucks cause I was going to ask him for some tips on becoming a voice actor (It's my dream job and I make a damn good impression of WFC/FOC Megatron)
I'm surprised that nobody on this site reported that Peter was there and I only found out when I went on the website the day before I went there.

It does say that
You must be a Transformers Collectors’ Club member to take advantage of this special event.
How they're going to do that I don't know. But I went ahead and became one since the package difference last year alone was over a $100 if you aren't a member so it paid for itself.

As someone that's been to a lot of Botcons now, there's a simple way of putting it: Botcon is (insert curse word of choice here) expensive.

Frank Welker isn't like the other guests that BotCon has hosted. As in he has a price tag about ten times as high as other actors.
Consider this is a test. If a model like this works, then other high priced guests can be considered. Your George Takeis, Judd Nelsons, etc.
All of the other guests will still be free to attendees to get autographs from. Or $20 a day for walk-ins to visit as many times as they want.

It's to encourage people to attend the event, which is the primary purpose of these exclusives.
If I ran BotCon, I'd immediately do away with non-attendee packages because I feel it creates an environment where people feel like they don't have to attend the event to get the exclusives. It seems extremely counter-productive to me to have sets available for people who aren't attending an event. Non-attending figures should be available only after the event if there is any stock left over. I would also reveal all of the available exclusives except for the "freebie" figure to help encourage people to attend.

Thats all and good for American attendees but those of us overseas who cant afford flights, hotels, then a $400 ticket price to get exclusives, non attending packs are great. I've wanted to go to Botcon for over a decade and hoped to make it this year but that is too much. Ebay sellers will have that set going For over $500.

That's being a bit ignorant of those who want to (and would) attend Botcon, and can't.
Such as people hospitalized, house bound for medical reasons or, as stated above, travel issues.
I think they are well within their rights to allocate a certain amount to non attendees. What I disagree with is the people who physically do go and the hike the exclusives prices within hours of them being available on ebay. That whole scenario has put me off Botcon and it's exclusives unfortunately.
If you did away with non attendee packages, the only people who would really care about the event itself would be those who go as it would then be more of a 'closed' affair.
Unlike the profile it has now internationally. I'm not interested in this years exclusives so far but scrapping them would not be a good thing in my honest opinion

I don't understand this logic. I don't expect overseas conventions or stores to make it easy for me to obtain foreign convention or retail exclusives. I have to jump through hoops, pay middle-man markups, etc to obtain those items. I don't understand why BotCon exclusives should be any different than exclusives for other conventions or retail exclusives. There are a lot of fans who bend over backwards to attend the event every year (not to mention fans right here in the US). Convention exclusives are a selling point for why someone should attend an event. If you allow those items to be sold to non-attendees, aren't you in a sense eliminating one of the reasons why someone should attend your event. It just doesn't make sense from a business model that is designed to make money.
