Hot on the tails of the new WFC SIEGE product reveals that will be showed off at Toy Fair 2019, we have two Studio Series figures that'll be showed off, Studio Series Voyager Class Optimus Prime (from the Bumblebee film), which we've seen before through unofficial means, and Studio Series Deluxe Class Dropkick, the car mode version, which we've never seen before.
Thanks to IGN, we have some great stock renders of the two figures. The article also says Optimus will hit retail on April 1st, while Dropkick will go up on August 1st. Interestingly, despite being listed at a Studio Series Deluxe price point and size, IGN calls it a Voyager Class figure.
Check out the images below, as well as IGN's descriptions, and tell us your thoughts in the Pub forums below!
The Transformers: Studio Series line is getting two new additions by way of Dropkick and Optimus Prime, both based on the character models from last year's Bumblebee movie.
Optimus Prime, Autobot leader and easily the most iconic of all the Transformers across all media, is due to arrive April 1 with a retail price of $29.99 USD. Dropkick, definitely a less well-known member of the Decepticons, but still a notable figure, is scheduled to hit retailers August 1 for $19.99.
The Studio Series Optimus Prime features "vivid, movie-inspired deco and detailed hand blasters," and transforms from truck to robot in 35 steps. Optimus stands 6.5 inches and comes with a backdrop of the "San Francisco Bridge scene" in Bumblebee.
Dropkick stands 4.5 inches tall when in robot mode and transforms into car mode in 36 steps. Unlike the movie version, the Studio Series 46 Voyager Class Dropkick is not a triple-changer. You can still buy the Studio Series 22 Deluxe Class Dropkick to turn from robot to helicopter, completing the possible transformation set.
Hasbro said the figures will be "available on HasbroPulse.com and other major retailers" at launch, which means these particular figures won't be retail-exclusives like the entire line of Vintage G1 Transformers, which could only be purchased through Walmart. Don't forget to check out our Bumblebee review, too.

Oh, actually noticed the Voyager part. Nah, he's a deluxe, because his price point is 19.99 and he stands at 4.5 inches tall

It's written in the write up, at the part saying it completes a transformation set with the helicopter Dropkick.

Apparently someone forgot to change that from the template: the $19.99 is still Deluxe Class.

As for Dropkick...look, I know a lot of people said that copter Dropkick was too skinny, but this Dropkick looks too bulky and unwieldy to me. Giving him a whole front half of a car for his chest G1-style is NOT a good look for him, in my opinion, and it looks like he's similarly going to have a really basic transformation to go with it. I actually like my copter Dropkick, so unless this looks significantly better in hand or I'm wrong about how he transforms, the only reason whatsoever I would have to get him is his gun (which does look really good/screen-accurate). Easy pass, I hope they show more SS stuff at Toy Fair than just these two. For example, you could answer this:

Also I wanted Dropkick to have green paint decals on his face to make it look like when he talks, missed opportunity

The second one looks closer to his pre-triplechanger form when they first arrive on Earth

Prime looks a bit funky, but still somewhat good.

Expecting the toys to look exactly like the film designs is ridiculous especially with the way those two were with the Triple Changer stuff.

So, Sideswipe is one of my favorite movie Autobots/Transformers period, and I am thrilled he got a new toy. And this one is certainly pretty darn good.
for one thing, the alt mode is pretty much faultless. Few Transformers can actually pull off a proper looking convertible, and yet here he does!
The transformation is fun and intuitive as well. Homages the OG deluxe a lot in the arms, chest, and trunk kibble, but adds some new things, like optional swords and also the adjustable chest pieces. I love that they can move around and adjust. I also like how the legs work a bit differently from past iterations as well.
Robot mode is pretty grand. I wish he had some more silver, but dang can he move! And with the optional swords and guns, the ability to store all of them, and the fact that his fender pieces make him really stable with poses, he is a joy to play with. I love this figure, overall the best of the wave in terms of deluxe quality. Until a MPM comes along, I think this can be a definitive Sideswipe for any movie collection

Still don't like that Prime at all and that render looks better than the actual toy pics look quite oddly proportioned and junky.
Have got Barricade and Sideswipe on the way which I'm very much looking forward to cos both look fantastic in people's photos.

But just about every Studio Series figure has had to make compromises for budget and size.

I have helicopter Dropkick but haven’t opened him in months, same as VW Bee and a few others. Thanks US Army.

As far as Car mode Dropkick goes he looks fantastic and blows the previous one out of the water. I'm so glad they gave him a new headsculpt. It looks worlds better. Infact the entire figure looks worlds better. He has better colors and a much more accurate weapon. I was already planning on getting Shatter, but this just makes me want her more.
I hope at some point we get a jet mode Shatter because I think that would make her look a lot better. Mainly I want that so we can get a shatter with her face. Also I think the leaner design of her jet would give Shatter a much thinner and more feminine look, because bulky isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think female. I think slim and agile, which is not only what a jet is but also what her robot mode is.
Also Blitzwing is the real figure we desperately need, besides Dino of course.

I do hope jet mode shatter has some (fake) car kibble in robot mode.

It seems the Entertainment Earth "TRA GEN STUDIO SERIES VOYAGER HERO" was indeed SS38 Optimus Prime (Bumblebee). My delivery got here today and I'm blown away! Really impressive figure. Haven't opened Rampage yet, but Optimus looks great. His left leg is a little loose but I put a little nail topcoat in the joint and it helped.
Included a box shot. Considering this was just solicited for "April 1"... it sure got here quite early! April fools?

Just got done transforming him to alt mode and back. Definitely a bit more complicated than the WFC: Siege Optimus. I actually got a bit stuck and had to retrace my steps, etc. Some of the pieces (namely in the legs) don't snap as snugly/securely as I'd prefer, but overall I'm still really impressed. I think his Alt mode actually looks really great, and manages to be larger than Siege Optimus - ditto for his robot mode.
I think this is a great mix of live action / G1 Prime. Up until this I thought Siege Prime might have been my favorite in a while - but something about this Bumblebee version is really doing it for me!

What if it's really part of a bigger marketing plan? As in, first they give us single-altmoded figures to make us think that there won't be an triple-changer versions, so that we buy up those ones to ensure that we get toy of them with both of their altmodes, and then afterward, once we've gotten both the car-moded and aircraft-moded toys of each, they finally do give us triple-changer toys, successfully getting us to buy three toys of the two?CollectorCaseZ wrote:I really wish they could get some actual Triple Changer action instead of doing two figures.

That's how mafia works
Seriously, that may be their actual plan

That would be cruel. Hasn't this actually happened before somewhat recently in at least one toyline? I might be confusing gimmicks and thinking a normally combining character was released without that ability and then got a full functioning release.Sabrblade wrote:What if it's really part of a bigger marketing plan? I dont think it would be possible without losing on some accuracy. What I would want instead at least is them looking like they do in the film for the majority of the time in robot mode. So for dropkick it would be a car or helicopter that has a robot mode that includes the screen accurate kibble. So wheels in th arms, rotors in the back and cockpit in for a chest. Some of that kibble would of course be fake I would moe than undserstand in this case. Many of the simpler toys in the BB line do that.
Posted by no-one on February 8th, 2019 @ 8:55am CST
It's kinda weird hearing someone request more kibble and fake parts, but I hear yeah. While the muscle car and robot look great, they could be a little more screen accurate. But if they are going to go that far and start adding extra bits and pieces, why not just go all in?william-james88 wrote:CollectorCaseZ wrote:I really wish they could get some actual Triple Changer action instead of doing two figures.

Because I think "all in" is exponentially harder to do than just adding some parts for extra screen accuracy.
I really hope Jet Shatter has a sceen accurate chest when it gets released.

For now, it has appeared in comic book stores, like Fantastic Collectibles in North Carolina, and, more nationally, those who preordered from Entertainment Earth are receiving their shipments. Matthewrex on our boards has shared his experiecne getting this toy as well as some images. We also have more images from the Play with Photography Toy Blog.
