As was leaked and teased by Takara Tomy a few days ago we're getting our first look at the first of what appears to be a series of Beast Wars VS two-packs coming this year. Although not technically part of the actual Premium Finish line the figures are referred to as having a "premium finish". The new set applies cartoon accurate decos reminiscent of what we saw in the Masterpiece line to the Beast Wars figures that appeared in the Kingdom line. The first figures in the BWVS-01 set feature Optimus Primal now with painted gorilla eye details and Megatron using the gnashing teeth face sculpt for the first time. While Primal appears to be a slight step up from the Netflix box set release, Megatron has a very elaborate design that makes him almost unrecognizable from his Kingdom counterpart. There's also mention of a removable backdrop, likely similar to those of the Studio Series line. This set has a Japanese tax inclusive price of 15,400 JPY (about $112 USD), but will definitely be cheaper through normal retail like Amazon Japan as this is not an exclusive in Japan. AmiAmi already has it listed at 12,300 JPY (about $89.70 USD) which is the same as the current US price of a Voyager and a Leader. The set is expected to be released in August 2023.

As a side note, Japan will also be seeing Beast Wars return to television in Japan as select episodes of the animated series will begin broadcasting in April under the banner "Beast Wars Again".

The most we can hope for is a direct import via Hasbro Pulse and other online retailers like BBTS and TFSource.

This is no different than whenever else Takara does their own thing independent of Hasbro.

What other sets do you think will be included in Beast Wars Again?

The Japanese Toyline knew these sets, but I think they would be too unbalanced:

Convoy VS Megatron (already revealed)
White Claw VS Scorpos (no Polarclaw)
Cheetus VS Waspeeter (two deluxes, possible with netflix cheetor and a slightly darker waspinator)
Dinobot VS Tarans (unbalanced, ultra and deluxe. I have a hard time imagining a better deco on tarantulas)
Rattle VS Terrorsaurer (horribly unbalanced with such a small rattrap.)
Convobat VS Megalligator (no toys)

Probably any they could replicate from the original. Funny enough,I had the original Lio Convoy vs Galvatron set and the Big Convoy vs Magmatron set. This may be just a One off However.

They look nice. Specially Megs with the Dino skin texturing paint apps and the metallic green.

On Prime Everything that was blue is apparently now dark grey or gun metal. He does get some angry monkey eyes instead of the barely visible orange ones of the original, and a darker shinier money face and skin sections.

Might just break down and get it from AmiAmi if shipping is not murderous.

I don't think size balance will that big a concern when compiling these sets, and I think the men can finish the obligatory size joke. >:oP

I think the the whole point of bothering to do a different numbering system separate from the PF line was to leave themselves open to more without being overtly ambitious like they were before. Test the waters, see what happens and if they're well received make more.

I'm thinking two-packs based on who fought who in the Engeron mountain at the end of Beast Wars: Part 2, since these decos are show based.

Packaging pics for the "BWVS-01 Eternal Beast Showdown: Convoy VS Megatron" two-pack:

The outer sleeve gives the set's name, while the inner box is similar to a Generations Selects box. Opening the box reveals a presentation based on the original Japanese Beast Wars packaging, complete with vintage 1997 Japanese box art for the characters.

The inner box also uses the new "Beast Wars: Super Lifeform Transformers Again" logo, suggesting that it (or just "Beast Wars Again" for short) is indeed the proper name for this line.

Also, it's now available to preorder at BBTS, TFSource, Entertainment Earth, The Chosen Prime, RobotKingdom, and HLJ.

Heard about the box listing to the Twincast Podcast this morning and looked it up after (could have saved myself a minute coming to the forum first). The long box is proving a little problematic for shipping overseas if the Amazon Japan price is anything to go by.

Episode 1 of "Beast Wars: Super Lifeform Transformers Again" has aired in Japan today and has been uploaded to TakaraTomy's YouTube channel:

Things to note about this broadcast in contrast from the original version:

The new narration at the beginning by Kappei Yamaguchi (Rattrap's Japanese voice actor).
The episode itself ends halfway through its original runtime, having been cut in half to be broadcast on Japanese television at 9:15am, allowing it to fill a 15-minute airtime. The episode now ends with Cheetor first running off from the Maximal base to chase after some cheetahs.
At the end of the episode, a new segment has been added to close out the episode, in which a montage of recycled footage is played with new dialogue audio recorded by Yamaguchi as Rattrap, who provides commentary on this new Japanese broadcast to the viewers.

At the end of the video is another montage of Japanese commercials for various Rise of the Beasts toys. This is presumably not part of the televised broadcast, added only to the end of this YouTube video by Takara in order to advertise these new toys.

Everything else about the episode is unchanged from its original Japanese-dubbed version from 1997.

For those who long for the days of Takara's decos, they are now tackling the Beast Wars characters from the Transformers Kingdom line. They are releasing them in two packs and so far we have Megatron/Primal and Scorponok/Rhinox. We have put all images below, some old, some new, so that you can get a full sense of the line so far. From what we have seen of the initial listing, while prices are higher than standard retail releases, it's less than a 20% premium.

It is cool to see that Megatron sports the alternate headsculpt that was never officially released yet.

I dont get why, if they're homaging the original vs box set, they didn't use the alt head for primal as well. He didnt use the split mask sculpt in that box set.

The box is just a homage to the box and nothing more. The toys are based on the cartoon and he rarely closed his mask there.

Scorponok's colors look off, I think it might just be the lighting. He looks practically silver in beast mode, but correct dark gray in beast mode.

This topic really should be merged with the previous one.

If you don't already have this mold, I can't recommend it enough. It's so good.

I won't be getting this one (having already got the Kingdom and Jurassic Park versions of this mold) but envious of those getting it for the first time. The deco looks great.

Episode 2 of "Beast Wars Again" has aired. This time, it's the second half of "Beast Wars (Part 2)", here titled "Enter the Super Robot Lifeform Transformers (Part 2)" since the first half that aired last weekend was "Enter the Super Lifeform Transformers (Part 1)". As such, the beginning of the episode has a newly-made recap of the previous episode, narrated by Kappei Yamaguchi as Rattrap.

Something I neglected to mention about the first episode that is also present in this episode is an edit made to the opening theme song, in which the Japanese Beast Wars logo has been visually altered to add the "Again" part at the bottom of the logo. And with this new addition, the song itself has been slightly altered to have Yamaguchi shout "Again!" at the part when the singer (Japanese rapper Banana Ice) speaks the show's name "Beast Wars: Chou Seimeitai Transformer!"

At the end of the episode, Yamaguchi as Rattrap narrates a preview for the next episode, which will be the first half of "Beast Wars (Part 2)", now titled "Beat the Destrons (Part 1)".

Episode 3 of Beast Wars Again, "Beat the Destrons (Part 1)". As expected, it's the first half of Episode 2 "Beast Wars (Part 2)", ending halfway through the episode right before the Maximals begin their journey to the mountain of energon.

Next up in the Beast Wars Again line from Takara Tomy is Tigatron vs Blackarachnia. You probably know the drill by now: premium repaints of Kingdom figures to give them more cartoon accuracy. This set, BWVS-04, is expected to be out in February 2024 and will cost you $64.99 through Hasbro which is a fair price for a premium repainted, only about $5 more than the current retail price of a Deluxe and a Voyager.

Old business, but we also have photos of BWVS-03 Cheetor vs Waspinator which runs $54.99 and is expected to be rereleased in January 2024.

Both sets are available nearly everywhere.

Hot on the heels of taking pre-orders for the most recent set of Tigatron vs. Blackarachnia, the Beast Wars VS line will soon be adding Rattrap vs. Terrorsaur to its ranks. So far Takara Tomy has only teased us with one image on their official Twitter account of the pair with their new decos. This will be the first time the Terrorsaur figure is released in Japan despite having two options through Hasbro.

Is this enough to get you to buy the the mold again or is this set better left in Japan? Let us know in the Energon Pub forums!

I'm not sure how I feel about the black plastic, dark gray would have been better. I think they didn't go quite all in on the accuracy like they did previous figures, like the back of his hands should be red. Twitter reactions see to be that the Gold Disc figure is better...

More new news for this series.

The old Japanese Beast Wars album Beast Wars Transformer Songs Best is getting rereleased to accompany this line, retitled Beast Wars Transformer Songs Best –Again–.

A bonus 18th track has also been added, featuring the song "CAN WE PLAY OFF", which was the secondary track of the original single album release of "WAR! WAR! STOP IT" (the original theme song for the Japanese dub of Beast Wars season 1).

Nippon Columbia has a listing for the new album release.

These look nice, but a bit scary, the shine makes me think about whether they could get GPS in the future.

The shine is glossy metallic paint.

Dinobot looks colored like his Masterpiece toy, and apparently this set includes another Golden Disk accessory (likely the same double-sided Voyager/Vok mixture one that came first with Kingdom Ark and then with Amazon Terrorsaur).

Looks like the disc may have been metalized so that's cool.

Both figures look great, but the deco sure doesn't help improve Dinobot's dino mode.

Next in line for the Beast Wars Again versus line we have what appears to be our first look at Airazor VS Inferno via Champion Toys on Facebook. While much like the previous sets in the line these Kingdom and Legacy molds are getting more cartoon accurate repaints, but this one comes with an interesting bonus. In these photos not only does Inferno have his thruster in his back, but also has a second one in his hand painted up to look like his massive flamethrower from the cartoon! While a new weapon mold would have been nice, this is a nice consolation prize. The images say the reveal date is September 7 so we should be seeing full details next week!

This might be the only one of these sets I pick up. That Airazor looks great and I actually need a new Airazor since the wings on both of mine broke. Skywarp's/Silverbolt's wings are fine though. And I did want to pick up another Inferno to put the Scavenger head on. So I can take care of two things with one set. I might have to look into getting drill weapons for my makeshift Scavenger. I just don't really like any of the ones I've seen made specifically for that mold yet.

Yeah, I did the leak for 07, but I guess I forgot to post the gallery.

08 Waspinator looks good, but that Starscream is a must! Shame that tolerances don't allow all parts to be clear, but I'm impressed by how vibrant it looks compared to previous versions.
