Courtesy of Flickr user cmraseye we have a couple of shots showing off two items on set: a clapper board and (possibly) Bay's laptop. What's so special about these two items? The board has some robot CGI art on it, and the laptop appears to show some images which may or may not be a Dinobot. The images are not particularly clear, but we have been able to enlarge and magnify them - so feel free to speculate in the Energon Pub: Dinobots, yay or nay?

The Clapboard Robot has to be a dinobot, it has claws on its shoulders.

Now the more important question is, which one?
Cant be Grimlock cause it isnt buff.
Could be Swoop, Slug (Slag), or maybe Snarl.
I imagine Sludge being a little more buffer so it probably couldnt be him but who knows, We are dealing with Bay. He could make a Small Grimlock and Huge Bumblebee for all we know

They each look too vague and nondescript to really make heads or tails of either.

Though, here's a general question for you guys about the Movieverse Dinobots:

How nuts do you guys think the fandom would react if the movie versions of the Dinobots were changed into being different but still somewhat similar types of dinosaurs from what they usually are?

Like, suppose they were to change Grimlock into a Carnotauraus instead of a T-Rex, Sludge into a Brachiosaurus instead of a "Brontosaurus", Slag/Slug into a Styracosaurus instead of a Triceratops, Snarl into a Kentrosaurus instead of a Stegosaurus, and Swoop into a Rhamphorhynchus instead of a Pteranodon.

The reasoning behind such changes would be the common answer for typical Movieverse changes: "We wanted to try something different, while keeping true to the spirit of what came before, and we felt that what we did was both workable and just plain cool." ;)

Would such changes result in more outrage, or would the new altmodes be considered still close enough to what came before in the fans' eyes?

Looking at them all (especially the Carnotaurus), I wouldn't mind one bit. But, I will say that I prefer the Pteranodon over the Rhamphorhynchus.

as long as there are dinobots in it, i don't give a shit. i've completely separated every transformer universe from the movieverse, save for the characters and their roles.

Wouldn't it be funny if instead of the Dinobots we get Dinobot, and it's just been a mix up of the character/s.

...who is then given the samurai motif that Bay's been going on about (let's pretend it doesn't belong to "Drift" the Bugatti), which (sorta) fits Dinobot's personality.

njb, I think you're on to something. :-?

Looks a bit atrocious to me. But as Bayverse characters all look like demented Insecticons, I suppose Dinobots should ALSO look like Insecticons (i.e. overly complicated, deep-set faces, with lots of unnecessary moving face parts to convey "life").

The bigger question is WHY PLASTER A DINOBOT ALL OVER A MOVIE CLAPPER???? :HEADHURTS:

Doesn't that just waste money? I mean, do they plan on auctioning this crap??? 8-}

Jack Hallows wrote:as long as there are dinobots in it, i don't give a shit. i've completely separated every transformer universe from the movieverse...

While I understand your point, your opinion represents the lowest of artistic lows. You are lowering the bar to ensure your own satisfaction. :HEADHURTS: Where's the accountability for really bad design choices? It doesn't matter? Why not just watch Ice Age and imagine the dinobots in it, then? #-o Why not close your eyes and say the TF movie is good? (Not directed specifically at you, as a lot of people agree with your point).

While art is subjective, it isn't unreasonable to expect a certain level of polish or accomplishment. And loathe as some may be to it, criticism paves the path to improvement. :-B But if the bulk of you have a "who gives a sh*t?" attitude, then why not make the next TF a romantic comedy? Why not use puppets and high school actors? Seems like there's nothing Bay can do to dissuade you from paying him money to see crap TF designs; crap, American-Pie-wannabe jokes; and completely forgettable plots.

The Bayverse veers from the TF norm, sure, but when you veer THAT far off the road, are you even in the race anymore? I'm just asking Bay to reel it in a little and get back to TF roots - he's already borrowing heavily from the G1 universe, as it is.

Wait, I forgot - he's said that he's "IMPROVED" the TF universe. So this (and all past movies) represents the greatest accomplishment the TF brand has ever achieved. His comments alone are enough to keep me home this Summer. #-o

Is it just me, or does the clapper bot look more like Thundertron than a Dinobot? The shoulder claws are almost an exact match to the ones on his Prime toy and it looks to be blue and white.

Apart from Swoop, I doubt most people would notice a difference beyond them being spikier. I think their dinosaur modes being more scientifically accurate would get more attention, actually. Either way, I think you'd get the typical mix of some hate it, some love it, most are somewhere in between that happens with everything.

Personally, I'd love different dinosaur alts. It'd help make them stand out from the other Dinobot toys... out... there... Wait............

The guy on the plate to me looks like Thundertron with a really stupid looking face. And the image on the laptop looks like the Dinobots(more IDW/Prime-ish, but still movie style) sitting around a poker table.

Yeah, this news story is just about as worthless as discussing interior decorating with Stevie Wonder. :BANG_HEAD:

Hover a Magna-doodle over a 12" sub-woofer by about 4 feet and you'll get a better picture than what we have here. C'mon guys, this is stretching things just a bit too far. The only reason I bothered ragging on this is to point out the sheer ridiculousness of it. It's not news, it's not even rumor... it's just plain foolishness on par with watching the mainstream media reporting politics. 8-}

*Shrugs*

It was reported on other fansites, and we decided to post it here too. The discussion doesn't have to be about agreeing with the news, it's meant to discuss it! :D

If you don't think it's news worthy, fair enough, but at least you took your time to say so.

ey! don't judge my opinion, bro. i respect your stance as an unrelenting conservative; hell, i even agree with you on a lot of your points. but i'm a realist, and what's going to happen in the movies is going to happen in the movies, regardless of how much the diehard fans bitch and moan about it. i look at the movieverse as just another continuity. like marvel uk. dreamwave. idw. animated. prime. shattered glass. armada. cybertron. energon. rescue bots. and whatever the hell else is out there. not one of those series' are exactly the same, and all of em have their pro's and con's. the movieverse is the same way. just in live action.

there are things i hate about the movies; jazz's & ironhide's deaths, wheeljack's total defamation of character, the wreckers being nascar vehicles, autobots being in one movie and inexplicably being omitted from others, ultra magnus' whereabouts when prime died, what they did with the matrix & some other things, but do you think bay gives a damn about how we all feel about his creation? hell no. money talks, and as long as that cash in reelin in, he'll do whatever the hell he wants. and people are going to watch it regardless. it's not like we can get a lynch mob to storm his facilities with picket signs & lit torches demanding he make a g1 accurate movie. so we're left with what we have. and by golly, i'm gonna take it for what it's worth. i love transformers in all their incarnations. and quite frankly, all the transformer films are romantic comedies in a way. just with awesome explosions and some epic fight scenes. (prime goin in on the cons the only way a prime should, right before he dies in rotf comes to mind.)

and it's not a "who gives a shit" attitude i have. i care, i just know better than to care too much. i mean jeez, over half a decade of "less than par" films in transformer fans eyes and people are still expecting more than whats being offered instead of developing even a small sense of appreciation for what's being done with the films is rather dumb in my opinion. we know it's gonna be different and inaccurate, so folks should just enjoy it for what it is and quit complaining. i feel like bay contributed a big part to the reignited spark of the transformers in the 21st century and brought new fans into the fold. and if they want to experience transformers as it really should be experienced, there are comics & shows for all of that and they're easy to find.

point is, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. so don't start a war that'll consume every energy pocket on the planet unless my opinion forces your opinion into servitude. :QUINT:

It was fairly common with the last 3 movies when we revealed something that Paramount didn't want revealed yet. It's more common with when they are filming in populated public places than when they are filming in remote locations. More people = more cameras ... I'm sure they have a team that deals with this on a daily basis with all of their different films. I'm sure they also have a list of websites, such as Seibertron.com, that they monitor closely for information like this. It's just the nature of a beast when dealing with a website that caters to over 400,000+ people around the world on a monthly basis. :D

That's interesting. I can understand them wanting to protect the film as much as they can, but it just seems kinda pointless to close the barn door after the barn burns down.

Top-left pic - a cropping of the Leader toy's official stock photography
Right pic - fan art based on the toy

I think that Dinobots should be all rusty, because they suppposed to be reactivated after a long time, and beign keeped as a trophy by Lockdown.
