The last news to come out of these shared magazine scans is a small bit of text, that hints that, not only is Masterpiece Raiden still coming out, but that there's also a possible MP Skyfire to join the Masterpiece ranks. There's a mention of Unite Warrior size but it's unclear who it's referring to and if it's talking about the five member unite Warrior teams like Superion, or UW Devastator.
While Takara have given no official confirmation to a MP Skyfire, it could be am indication of big things to come for the Masterpiece line.
What do you think of this news? Will you be all in on an MP Skyfire?

If Raiden is 18 inches, then he will be the perfect rival for PotP Predaking. If he is smaller in scale with the other combiners, that works also considering in my collection Evil Combiners currently outnumber the Heroic ones 17-15.
I know the term "mini masterpiece" is going around a lot with respects to some of the current SS86, and WFC toys. However I would think that even an 18 inch Raiden would be too small to be considered Masterpiece? Unless it is because of the sheer amount of engineering that is involved. At any rate it would be perfect for me. If it was any larger however, it wouldn't work.

UW (and thus CW) Devastator is 18 inches (according to TT 45 CM). This also applies to PotP Predaking
However all other UW Combiners, (and by extension CW, PotP, Selects etc...) are *roughly* 12 inches.
As I stated above, either one works for me. An official TT/Hasbro MP Combiner has yet to be released, but many 3P ones scale a bit larger in the 20-22 inch range, so not sure how hardcore MP fans will feel. But I'm encouraged by this news.

I'm fairly certain Devastator size to make room for all the engineering.

If they will make Skyfire Devy-sized, why not just call him a Titan? Or would it look stupid since they already released a Commander version?Sabrblade wrote:In this Tweet, a magazine scan of Japanese text gives us some major news.
First, it mentions something about Masterpiece Skids and a second use of that mold, which I've already posted here in Skids's thread.
Next, the text mentions that Raiden is still coming.
Third, it seems to mention... Masterpiece Skyfire!
And finally, I cannot tell specifically whether this next point is for Skyfire or Raiden since both are mentioned in the same paragraph as this, but whichever of the two this is for, the one it is talking about will be of comparable size to "Unite Warriors size" (but it also doesn't seem to specify if it means the size of the normal non-Titan combiners or the size of UW Devastator, which would make more sense for either of the two at MP scale).

The original Raiden had a lot of parts forming to complete the super robot. Unlike Devastator the parts were fairly important to the vehicle modes as they were the tops of the trains, and bits to connect them to each other.

The Masterpiece line doesn't have size classes, so it wouldn't make sense to use a size class term for a line that doesn't have them.Rodimus Prime wrote:If they will make Skyfire Devy-sized, why not just call him a Titan? Or would it look stupid since they already released a Commander version?

You misunderstood. I didn't say he should be called a Titan MP or a MP Titan. I was saying that if he will be Devastator's size, why not call him a Titan instead of a Masterpiece?Sabrblade wrote:The Masterpiece line doesn't have size classes, so it wouldn't make sense to use a size class term for a line that doesn't have them.Rodimus Prime wrote:If they will make Skyfire Devy-sized, why not just call him a Titan? I also figured if Skyfire was going to have a MP it would be the size of the Commander figure. Except much better quality. And probably triple the price.
Posted by Emerje on March 25th, 2021 @ 8:39pm CDT
(Yes, I realize pegging down his size is hard, especially when he's been as tall as Wheeljack in scenes, but I like him at this size).
And then Raiden would be at the 18" size and that makes sense since the individual Constructicons are at a good comparable MP scale.
I probably should point out that Commander class Jetfire cost $200 in Japan, sooo... $400?

Because, being a MP, it would have a much higher budget and engineering level than what Titans are usually allotted. And potentially diecast parts, which no Titan has ever had.Rodimus Prime wrote:You misunderstood. I didn't say he should be called a Titan MP or a MP Titan. Not everything the size of a Titan is a Titan. Epic Optimus Prime and Stomp & Chomp Grimlock, for instance, were Titan-sized, but I sure wouldn't call either of them one given how cheap their budgets and engineering were, compared to the actual Titan class figures.

Not to mention Titan is a price point, not an indication of size, and many MPs have exceeded the Titan price point which Skyfire and Raiden will do with ease.

I got it from Mandarake and despite the hefty DHL shipping and the sureshot custom fees, it's the best overall price. I did want MP-44 but without having to pay DOUBLE for a trailer that I'll never display. So Nemesis was the best alternative. Plus his knee problem is fixed. I'm looking forward to transform the guy!

It's like saying SS86 Grimlock is a waste because the MP exist.
It's comparing apples to oranges.

Exactly. SS Grimlock is miles ahead of Siege Jetfire in terms of quality.-Kanrabat- wrote:D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Skyfire is a waste of a slot considering the Siege on exists

Not in Skyfires case. The Siege on is literally MP scale, he is Star Saber sized. He's the size of the 3P MP ones too.
this is a case of literal apples to apples.

The only info we gave so far is that MP Skyfire is "United Warrior sized". This mean nothing.
Beside, the MP will not be made out of semi-soft plastics with hollow spaces all over the place.

If he is the size of UW Devastator, then he fails at his mission.
If he is the size of a standard combiner, which is Commander Skyfire, 3P MP, and MP Star Saber sized, then he is comparable to the Siege one.

It was confirmed that unite Warrior size refers to Raiden. Jury is out on skyfire. He could be even bigger since Takara know people will pay it.

Star Saber is undersized. His MP is CHUG-scaled. He should have at least been the height of Armada Unicron, if not even taller. His Combiner-sized "Battle Up!" form shouldn't be the same height as Ultra Magnus.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Skyfire is a waste of a slot considering the Siege on exists

MP Raiden, currently only exists as name without details. So I wouldn't expect to see him this year.
Meanwhile 3P Raiden/Radiatron also has a release date of December. Again with rendered images.

I have absolutely no idea how to tell. Plus the Reprolabels won't help in identifying the thing.
Regardless, after playing with him, he feel damn solid and fun. So that's good I guess.

Note that by "Car Robots" he means the original Diaclone molds that became the 1984-1985 Autobot Cars. Here is a message from Mr Ono, the legendary toy designer who worked on the latest Masterpiece Skids.
The recent Masterpiece figures are difficult to transform, I feel it's much better to focus on a more mechanical transformation…. For Skids, the starting point was to create a Masterpiece figure which took a different direction and this is very different from the current trend of figures. Another aim was to keep the costs down without affecting the quality. After all the "Transformers" started with the Car Robots and they have such a strong presence especially when these vehicles turn into robots. When thinking of characters yet to receive the MP treatment, Skids the Honda City came to mind. It's true he only appeared twice in the cartoon but the overall look of the City is so attractive; and currently the 80’s is enjoying a resurgence. That's why I decided to take the challenge with Skids, not only to bring out more characters from the cartoon but also to add to the appeal of this car. Back in the day, the City was very popular, sporty and cool. It was fascinating. I used to own a red City R so I’m quite attached to it.
Having designed the Car Robots I’d never have expected to be handed this project however I was determined to do something I was unable to do in the past. The development is being handled by Yuya Onishi’s team. Due to the schedule the design has not been outsourced and has been drawn up completely by Onishi.
The colours chosen respect the animation and the weapons have been designed in a similar fashion. Additionally we wanted to follow the original Car Robot play aspect to allow us to seat the small figures, sold previously in the Masterpiece series, in the driver's seat. Unfortunately the Motocompo is not included. When you talk about the City, you can’t not think about the Motocompo but when Skids became a Transformer the Motocompo was omitted. That's the reason I didn’t include it with this version of Skids. I thought about including it when we would release a Diaclone version.
As development progressed there was a feeling in the team that if we wanted to recreate the City it would have to be “red”. This year is the 40th Anniversary of the City so my boss simply said “Don’t you think we should release two colours simultaneously?”. I thought that was a great idea for car fans to pick up two Masterpieces at the same time; Skids the Transformer and a brand new character who transforms from City to robot, Reboost! As Reboost is a brand new character we had to release it with a little extra which is why the Motocompo is included.
Several Masterpieces are currently being developed at the same time, these include the Trainbots and a brand new Skyfire. Raiden will be of a similar size to the Unite Warriors. I know everyone has been anticipating this release so please stay tuned.

Indeed. Although it is still really disappointing. Neither last year for Car Robots or this one for RiD are likely to receive any fanfare for that anniversary at all. It's ok though. They will rush to celebrate the 40th anniversary of a Honda instead....

Indeed. In all honesty though, I just want a new version of Gigatron. Literally the best Multiformer they ever made. A one-off MP would be great. To me, he is the only original figure in that line that is worth further recognition.

As a figure from 2000 he holds up surprisingly well. So as a MP, mostly just quality of life improvements, such as improved articulation. Ignoring that whole "toon accuracy" thing, which is mostly irrelevant to him. Since his default figure was that already. I'd say give him the full 10 transformations too. With the "Devil Gigatron/Galvatron" redeco, being just that. Also, as the original 'Hand Mode' could be added to G1 Fort Max. Enable the MP to connect to TR Fort Max.
Naturally he needs to be bigger too. Ignore that this is Galvatron for a moment. The TM 2 Cybershark mold is a tall figure. So a 'Commander Class' sized MP would be about right for Gigatron.
