Paramount and DreamWorks' Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is close to becoming the highest-grossing film of the year at the worldwide box office in less than two weeks in release.
Through Tuesday, the film's global take was $448.4 million, says Variety. The current No. 1 title, Angels & Demons, which opened in mid-May, has grossed $469 million.
At the domestic box office, the Transformers sequel grossed $14.9 million Monday and $13.5 million Tuesday for a total of $228.4 million.
Overseas, Monday's grosses clocked in at $14 million, while Tuesday came in at $16 million for a foreign total of $220 million.
At that rate, the film should catch up with "Angels" by Friday, even with the day and date entry of 20th Century Fox's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
"Transformers" is also expected to overtake Up ($255 million through Tuesday domestically) this weekend to become the biggest domestic grosser of 2009.

Sweet. It will hit a billion for sure by the end of summer.
I don't think so. The box office for the film is surely going to drop this week (although it may stay in the #1 spot - not much coming out this week that could rival it, IMHO), but next week in the new Harry Potter film, which will definately give RotF competition.

Well, the "experts" project RotF to pick up another $50 mil on the weekend, plus probably $20-30 mil on Wednesday and Thursday, and that's just domestically. We can probably count on $50 more in 5 days worldwide, so by Monday it will be up to $580 mil or so. And Potter comes out on July 15th, which is a Wednesday. Yeah, it will be big and yeah, it will definitely be #1, but it won't do RotF numbers. In the meantime Bruno also hits theaters next Friday, which might be a hit with Borat fans (I liked it, but saw it on DVD, will do the same with Bruno) but I think RotF will have a long life at theaters, and will stay there probably until the end of August, slowly tacking on little by little each day. Near $600 mil in the first 12 days is remarkable, I think another $400 mil is doable in another 7 weeks, worldwide.

My thoughts exactly. I hope Bay and DreamWorks gives the critics and all the haters a billion-dollar finger.
