BLUE!?!

Beyond Rumble, beyond Frenzy, beyond the archaicness of even the cassette tape as a recording medium!

Ah, but seriously, the vintage vinyl TF:TM soundtrack has been a holy grail of many a fan for many a decade, so this was arguably as overdue for honest-to-gosh reissue as the W-cassettes and Breast Force.

Arguably.

Ahhhhhh yes.
It's come full cicle.

I still have the case, but no tape.
This will do nicely.

Checked out an auction today and they had a working (possibly 50's/60's era) record player "stereo".

If only I'd known ...

Vinyl records are coming back in style, an electronics chain here has had them for years. Yes, people still own record players, and modern ones are available to buy. Some people just like staying old-fashioned, like some Transformer fans only wanting vintage ;)

I second that notion. Sort of wild that the 86 soundtrack would get released on vinyl before Jablonsky's score would see a CD release.

very true. there are several actual "record" stores in my city, and if the masses werent aware many of todays artists still release their albums on vinyl. even some of the bigger stores like HMV have a vinyl section.

BUT

Shouldn't this have been released in the 1980's cause this is out of place in modern times since vinal records are obsolete or near being obsolete

The good news is that it comes out on my birthday. Yay me?

Vinyl never died in punk rock and hardcore. It's made a HUGE comeback in the last 10 years though. Sure, it's not in every music store, but you can find it at any decent store. You can even find it at Best Buy, Hot Topic, and Target, which is all kind of weird. I have 2 turntables and a small collection of vinyl. I'd rather have things on CD but will buy vinyl if that's the only way it's going to be released.

I never found this one on CD but I have it on cassette still. It was the first cassette I had as a kid.

Also, weirdly enough, cassettes are making a comeback lately. No thank you.

Vinyl offers the BEST sound quality as it's a direct impression of the sound wave.

CD's and MP3's, even lossless ones still don't have the quality that vinyl does as quality gets lost in the conversion.

So yes, there is a very large niche market out there for vinyl and you have better chance of finding record players in electronic stores than you do cassette players or even discmans.

I never got into the vinyl resurgence. The players are fairly easy to get now. Vinyl definitely have a more natural sound, but I still prefer CD's.

It really depends on what your into. If you like old jazz, funk, country or even hair metal. It's a lot cheaper to buy a used LP than a fancy re-issued CD. It's also fun to go on a hunt.
It's just like finding an old G1 toy at a swap meet.

But hey, no matter how you like it, you gotta have your jamz!

All you noobz with your vinyl records. WAX CYLINDERS OR BUST!

j/k, I'm fine with the CD I bought (along with the VHS copy of the movie which I still have around here somewhere) in the early to mid 90's (my first online purchase, via Prodigy, pre-internet).

Still cool they're doing this, even if it's not something I'd ever buy. Once I got a cassette playing Walkman, I never looked back to records. Guess I get no "cred", but whatever, if you want to deal with them, great, to me CD is the GOAT.

(I probably sound more negative than I intend, I really do think it's great that people that are into this sort of thing get to have it)

Vinyl records sound SO much better than CDs or cassettes IMO. The sound quality is a lot deeper and almost larger than life when cranking some top notch produced albums.

I have a huge collection of 80's vinyl but never got into getting newer albums on vinyl but this is a must have!

47$ for a single disc record press is absolutely ridiculous. It should be around 30$ max, even with a colored vinyl. A 47$+ asking price is for pressings with at least 2 discs. This is insane.

50 bucks ? What kind of crack are they smoking ? You could probably find the vintage record in a thrift store for a dollar. Or more likely in a vinyl store for under 20 bucks. I used to DJ. Even the rarest records could be bought for under 20 bucks once CD turntables were invented by Numark.

Based on the Amazon.com order page, there's nothing that justifies this price point. I'm not angry about it, and I'm just not buying it.

Records and toys are different in my mind. I'll happily spend up to $15 on an LP, maybe even $20 depending on what I'm buying and where. $50 doesn't even make sense. I've never seen a price tag that high for something brand new and for something not being sold in secondary markets like eBay.

Granted it's been ages since I've dealt with the music market but back when I was building up my Metallica music library, I wouldn't have (and often didn't) think twice about dropping that kind of change down for vinyl and that was back when most of you 'bots still had training wheels. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have my cassette and original CD of this soundtrack, I'd probably drop the 50 creds for the vinyl now but I just don't feel the need to have a version I can't even listen to.
Y'all should know better by now than to scoff at the prices of various collectibles. Audiophiles are even fussier and hungrier creatures than those folks dependent on their "plastic crack" addictions and the markets operate on two entirely different wavelengths.

I collect vintage hip hop and old school vinyl from the 70's and 80's. I am well aware of the collector's value of LP's. The price is unacceptable and a total joke. This is not a vintage Elvis or Beatles LP. I would place the value of the original vintage 1986 LP at around $10-15 in any used vinyl shop. Maybe $20-25 would be the retail "gotta have it" price. Theres a few of them on e-bay for over $40. But they are listed "buy it now" so that means nobody agrees with the sellers appraisal.

You missed the point entirely. You're comparing a $50 brand new LP to records found in a secondary market, which is not dictated by input costs or marketing costs.

X-Rated is right that this price point doesn't make sense.

Hmm...$50 for an archaic (and in my opinion, extremely obsolete) format, or the price of $5 (or free if you have an Amazon Prime membership, as I do) for MP3.

And the TL,DR part about the whole vinyl thing from my perspective based on my admittedly limited experience with vinyl (I've listened to records plenty of times, even on 'high-end' stereo equipment, but I've never owned my own record player):

That 'warm' sound (a suspiciously frequently used term to describe the sound of vinyl by its proponents) is not worth 10X the price in my opinion. I've heard live bands, even bands recording in studios but and while I have heard some digital representations (CDs, lossless WMAs, MP3s, ATRAC3s etc.) that sounded pretty close to live, never have I heard a record player replicate anything close. It does give it a different quality to the sound, and I'm sure that many enjoy that quality, but in my opinion it's no closer to the real thing than a decent quality digital recording (isn't most music recorded directly to digital these days anyway? Though of course that probably wasn't the case back in the mid-80's when this was recorded). Reel-to-reel is supposed to be the 'real deal' when it comes to audio accuracy anyway, not vinyl. Besides, I think a decent set of speakers and well adjusted equalizer will have a far greater impact on sound quality than the medium used for playback. I mean naturally the bitrate needs to be decent, otherwise it can have that 'tinny' sound to it, but other than that there should be little to no impact unless there's some information I'm unaware of such as some sort of limitation of digital recordings and playback media with regards to the ranges/frequencies/whatever that they're capable of recording/playing back/replicating, but I've never heard of any such limitations; again, especially nowadays since most retail music is recorded digitally in the first place, which would make an analogue conversion a step down, while a high quality (e.g. 'lossless') digital copy would theoretically be flawless/the closest you could possibly get to the source.

I'm no audiophile, but the combination of being a special edition import, limited to only 1000 numbered copies, and being on clear blue vinyl sounds like a $50 high end collectable rather than a second hand find to me.

New and reissued records can actually be pretty pricey. If you go into Guitar Center, Hot Topic or any store that sells reissued records now a days, unfortunately that is around the price you will pay (in stores of course). I am sure eventually you will be able to find it cheaper online but that's the way things are going, everything is getting more and more expensive.
