The Thief
The Muscle
The Loose Cannon
The Bounty Hunter
The Boss
I wonder if it would be a repaint/remold of the upcoming Combiner War figures. Especially with the line about them being Cybertron's only hope. Combining into one big bot could stack the odds plenty in your favor. Any way just some wishful thinking.
Also it looks like Botcon is borrowing from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movie if you look at the titles given
The Thief (Gamora)
The Muscle (Drax the Destroyer)
The Loose Cannon (Groot)
The Bounty Hunger (Rocket)
The Boss (Star Lord)

As a rule of thumb, no current line molds can be used by the club. It's all a matter of availability: FunPub can't use any mold that Hasbro is already using for the production of their own figures. Thrilling 30's and older are fair game, with the caveat of the state of the tooling (UT molds are very much a risk as FunPub has stated some have deteriorated pretty badly at this point).

Thief - Swindle
Muscle - Brawl
Bounty Hunter - Vortex
Loose Cannon - BlastOff
The Boss - Onslaught.
I actually made this prediction to JelZe in a chat a while ago, before the clues.
Posted by Rodimus Prime on January 1st, 2015 @ 12:30pm CST
I suggested these a couple of pages ago as well, and I hope it's true. A set made of an actual team (much like 2011's Stunticons set) would be better than a bunch of different characters scraped together.Amelie wrote:I personally somehow see the words "Renegades", "Thief" and "Muscle" as being big clues here....

Here's my counterpoint: What's the use of the Combaticons for the BotCon set? We all know FunPub's penchant for the obscure and not-so-obvious, plus, if we did get them, I highly doubt they'd use the FOC molds. It would be just a glorified Bruticus gift set, even more glorified than the G2 decos. And nobody would want that for BotCon...
And pre tell, when did Vortex jump from Interrogator to Bounty Hunter?
Posted by Rodimus Prime on January 1st, 2015 @ 2:12pm CST
That all depends on the backstory and how well it would incorporate the characters.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Here's my counterpoint: What's the use of the Combaticons for the BotCon set?
I wouldn't want the FoC molds used. Who says they have to be molds that were used for previous incarnations of the characters? I keep going back to the TFA Stunticons of 2011. They were molds from the same line, but of 5 different characters. I do concede 1 point, though: The Combaticons might not be obscure enough to be in the set, especially since they were featured in FoC.We all know FunPub's penchant for the obscure and not-so-obvious, plus, if we did get them, I highly doubt they'd use the FOC molds.
And? The 2011 set wasn't a Menasor gift set. This doesn't have to be.It would be just a glorified Bruticus gift set
It doesn't exactly have to be "bounty hunter." I see him as more the loose cannon. Him or Brawl. Besides, there was no bounty hunter in the Combaticon lineup, so someone has to change. If the Combaticons were to be the characters. And pre tell, when did Vortex jump from Interrogator to Bounty Hunter?

Like (as I suggested before), a G1 dude, a Beast Era dude, a Unicron Trilogy dude, a Movieverse dude (from a mold the Club can use), and an Animated dude. Five outlaws, each wanted from a different world for different reasons.
Having them all come from the same existing team and world would just feel so underwhelming to me by comparison, what with the story being set in a place limited only by one's own imagination.

Too recent, plus the limit of pieces retooled is 1, usually the head. 2007 Thrust had retooled wings, but no new head, so it was still within said limit. Maybe next year.

I don't know why anyone would want a repeat of the BotCon Stunticon set. I'd rather have Transformers that don't transform than combiners that don't combine. It's an especially bad idea at a time when we have some really cool combiners coming out. Plus there's a really good chance that Hasbro will be using the Combaticons for CW so they'd be off limits anyway.
And really, a combiner box set featuring Axiom Nexus had better be an updated Nexus Prime considering the nature of both.

So we can confirm that one of the figures uses Springer as a base mold. Maybe Windblade?
Posted by Sabrblade on January 1st, 2015 @ 7:51pm CST
Windblade's probably too new to use, so that might just be Windblade herself.Mindmaster wrote:So we can confirm that one of the figures uses Springer as a base mold. Maybe Windblade?
The Springer mold, however, is a definite possibility. Could be one of the five outlaws, could be an at-show exclusive, or it could just be Springer himself.

Looks like my idea of "the boss" (or Star Lord if we're still doing the GotG thing) as Hot Rod has a chance.
That's less Dragonzord and more Mecha Godzilla for sure, though I wonder if it'll be colored like Gigastorm.
In the second panel I see what looks to be TT Silverbolt, Heinrad and Rhinox the left and Starscream and Stun Gun on the right.
Third panel is hard to make out, but they were nice enough to write "Wolfang" on one. Next to him is probably Primal Prime. The rabbit is most likely Stampy. Don't know about the dog, could be Mini-Con Overbite or even AOE Steeljaw. Looks like RID 2015 Grimlock in there as well.
Panel four is kinda hard to make out aside from the two Windblades, Springer and the dog again.

Actually, that Godzilla-ish one is an old Grimlock/Godzilla hybrid KO. I remember seeing it back in the 90s at places like KB Toys and Toy Liquidators. I was a fan simply for the Godzilla-esque look.

I think they've done an excellent job doing a ReDux of the earlier — often dated and extremely pricy — characters. I'm much more apt to dig out the new Shockaract than the delicate chrome version, for example.
Keeping some of these characters in play lets new fans get them for a decent price, plus it's also good for collectors since it doesn't let those old characters fall out of the limelight. Keep the Botcon "brand" and characters strong.
Not to mention it gives us some new story for our old characters. Also a win.
As for mixing universes in the same set, I think that can really hurt the aesthetics. The movie verse and animated have such a different look. I'd rather keep those out of a set, unless it's 100% those molds. (Add ons would be free game, of course. Those are a mixed bag.... literally! Ha ha ha.)

Case in point... the two recent rescue box sets look okay in vehicle mode, but their robot modes look awful together. That chicken-legged copter is an abomination, IMHO.
Bringing it back to Botcon... that's why I felt the Animated set was such a home run, but Machine Wars was a bit of a mixed bag.

All that would matter for them now would be that the toys are fun and look good. And really, at the root of it all, isn't that what's most important?

That Axiom Nexus isn't created from a marketing standpoint.
