I mean... I'll watch it, and I'm sure I'll find something to enjoy about it, but ehhh... since that Windblade preview I've not exactly had as easy a time getting myself hyped for this.
Posted by Autobot N on July 21st, 2016 @ 4:15pm CDT
It happened as soon as I saw the clips with Windblade standing over Computron and slicing off Menasor's arm with ease. I was ready to enjoy this series, I was even able to disregard Windblade being the main character (though it did kinda annoy me). But this? This is absurd.Kurona wrote:Anyone else finding themselves getting less and less excited for this?

I'm going to watch this show to be entertained not looking for a grand story and I'll be happy that way.

Stop missing the point, man. It doesn't matter that she's a new character or not. The thing we don't like about this is that it's taking the brand new character that many of us know and love and depicting her in a negative light. The naive, altruistic, optimistic, and dutiful Windblade from the comics, whose personality we were hoping to see reflected here, has been reduced to a homicidal psychopathic maniac. Even disregarding the personality of IDW Windblade, that kind of personality is never acceptable for our main heroic protagonist gateway character, especially in a work related to a children's toy brand. She's basically an Arcee knockoff at this point, and no one wanted that. Just because it's doing something different doesn't automatically make it good.Deadput wrote:At least it's a new character instead of Optimus or Bumblebee being the main character for the billionth time.

I know we disagree a lot but thank you for putting my thoughts into words better than my attempts earlier

First, the animation is great. It looks modern but has the G1 feel at the same time.
The length is a major bummer. This whole series we've been waiting for is as long as 2 standard episodes? Why were they not upfront about it? It's not even the length of a TV movie or miniseries.
As far as the voices go, we honestly didn't hear many but let me tackle the Optimus Prime voice. They really dropped the ball here. It seems obvious they didn't want to pay Peter Cullen. Anyone who has heard Jon Bailey's Optimus voice knows that it is the next best thing and actually sounds more like G1 Prime than Cullen himself has in recent years. The problem is that this isn't Bailey's Prime voice, it's a very generic sounding voice that really misses the mark. I would hope that we'll get more G1 based animation in the future and a real series and hopefully Jon can return as Optimus and do the voice the way he has before.

I honestly think that's what Hasbro believes we want to see. Trust me if it wasn't her being forced down our throats then it would've been Bumblebee. Why?
Because Hasbro are idiots that why! Remember they had a station all to themselves and we all know how that turned out. So their input in this show isn't turning out to be much better.

BUT... Then I noticed the mouth movement, and went "Oh... OH! So that's what they meant by... Oh... Oh no... Oh NO! No. No no no no no no nonononononoooooo!"
That mouth movement is exactly the same kind of underdetailed featureless mouth movement that is common to many anime, and which we got back in both Energon and Cybertron.

I have seen worse. Not from a Transformers cartoon, but I have seen something. Something that makes Energon look like a film from Studio Ghibli.

Thank you for not making me say the title to that abomination. I die a little every time I say it. But yeah, mouth movement is Energon-like, but the rest looks rather good in my opinion. Yes it's kinda sluggish, but still better than Energon.

P.S. Starscream sounds more like his G1 character, why so mad, and Windblade has been murder crazy in the comics before and at least she's not like her RID counterpart.
"Murder crazy"?
Her and Chromia together couldn't even beat Starscream in Windblade Vol. 1. Now they have her chopping off Combiner limbs..... Defend this all you like but if that wasn't some type of dream sequence or "danger room battle". I might be done with this show before it even starts.

Ah, but, see, the creators of this series had a similar goal in mind to that of the creators of the Prime cartoon, but whereas the Prime creators set out to make that show as "epic" as possible, this show's creators set out make this show as "bad-A-double-S" as possible. Look, we know it's 3d, so can we stop the practice of ditching frames to try and make it look like traditional animation? It feels like watching a clip on a bad connection, not quite buffering but not running smooth either. Hopefully the official release will look better, but there are a lot of animated shows that handle cg this way so I'm worried.
I think you mean the design and look of the show is good, but the animation itself is the movement and fluidity and that part isnt beautiful. I feel the same way as you. When I saw the transformation it looked like stop motion. Then again, if this had full backing and budget of a modern show (like Prime or RID) then it wouldnt have been relegated by a web series not even handled by third party production company.

It did feel animé-ish to me in the way there is a lack of frames (like the stop motion, slow mo feel), or how they will have a static image move against the background. And you talk of Cybertron but its not eve there, Cybertron had very fluid transformation sequences (the best ever, to me). Too bad they were never against an actual show background though

We've seen Wheeljack in the trailer, yet he's not credited here. He might not have any lines.
forgot one, sorry.
But really though, where are the rest? Can you really have a true combiner war without 3 big guys like Superion, Defensor, and Bruticus? And who knows, maybe Optimus will become a combiner again here and Jon Bailey can voice a combiner and Prime all in one go

Based on that SDCC clip, this might be exactly what happens. Hello and goodbye, all-new character.
So yeah. The clip is nice, but Menasor needs more bass in his voice. These big, titanic guys should sound the part. Windblade is OP and vengeful as f***. The combiners better have some magical healing powers or this fight's gonna be over before it begins.
The cast.... mostly YouTube people. I mean, yay for them getting a break, but it's not really lending credibility to the production.
I hope it's even half as good as I'd initially hoped.

Oh, my mistake. I thought I was on Seibertron not TFW for a sec there. Gotta say that's a pretty insulting statement, bro. I've been a professional voice actor for 7 years and worked on over 3,000 jobs. I've done character work for cartoons on FOX, a dozen or so video game characters, toys, commercials and everything in between. I get that you're in love with Seitz but don't insult the professionalism of the rest of the cast. New media stars are getting hired more and more often than tv and movie stars are for animation, that's just the way the industry is evolving. It's free publicity for the jobs they do for the clients. They bring their fans with them. That being said, I'm not the only one with acting chops and plenty of experience to work in animation.

jON3.0 wrote:So for those who don't know, I'm going to be the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers: Combiner Wars. It's been painful, to be honest, wading through all of the hate and negativity even here where I always felt was a safe place from haters. I've been imitating Optimus since I was 5 years old. 32 years of practice. I can't say that I've unofficially filled in for a certain voice before and no one ever even noticed. The voice of Optimus was what inspired me to pursue this career along with my wife's motivation and it's always been a lifelong dream to work on something official for this brand. It finally happened for me. The reactions are divided because let's face it, TF fans hate change and only ever want the original cast on the other hand I've had plenty of supportive friends that are happy for me. I have the experience and chops to back this up, people. I've been doing voiceover work since 2009 professionally in over 3,000 jobs. I've voices over a dozen video game characters in XCOM, Dishonored 2, etc., the voices for toys, commercials, trailers, documentaries, a reality series this October, network promos for ABC & NBC, filled in for some of the biggest Hollywood actors, cartoon characters on FOX ADHD and much more. Some of the other cast members have also done legitimate professional voice acting and/or on-camera work. It's an insult to them to say we're second-hand or unprofessional. You all have done jobs that others have done before you, yes? Just because you're doing the job now doesn't mean you're as good as your predecessor or maybe you're better but I bet if someone used a term to categorize you as inferior compared to the previous employee, it would offend you. Different doesn't always have to be "bad" and there's a lot on the production side of animation that only those who work in the industry would know about and understand.
Keep up the good work Jon all sounds good thus far from me
I'm also paid a voice actor but with only a few credits.
Are you able to PM me in the right direction to get an audition for the next Machinma TF project?
Thank Again

It's hard to believe how long and prevalent "Ruined Forever" has been in the TF Community. I'd explain more but TFWiki (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ruined_FOREVER) does a great job of doing it for me already. That being said, this new series shouldn't receive hate just because it is done on a smaller-scale than other previous Transformers projects. Some may find it insignificant to their expectations, but others certainly will find satisfaction seeing their newest figures come to life on their screens, complete with modern animation techniques and a talented voice cast! It might even introduce new fans to the fray to replace those who cease to be fans, which the Transformers franchise needs more than anything in order to protect its "fragility". Many fans would say that the Energon cartoon RUINED transformers FOREVER due to its awkward 3D and rushed dubbing, but without it, I wouldn't have even known these forums existed! If that series is able to even able to attract some attention to the franchise, surely this series could do it, without a doubt!
Bottom line, this series has not even been released yet, and we can't really judge its cons as of now, despite some implications. All we know that it has been specifically targeted at older fans, not towards the the massive movie crowd or the kids who are getting their first feel of the franchise. As an added bonus, it incorporates several plot elements from the stellar comic series. Even if expectations are not met for some fans, it's not a full-blown 50 -episode series, and it will do a great service to me!
