Black Lab, a rock band known for their MTV hits- ‘Wash it Away’ and ‘Time Ago’ as well as their featured songs on the Spiderman and Blade: Trinity soundtracks recently submitted a song to Paramount for consideration on the new
Transformers Movie soundtrack. Unfortunately, the song did not make the finalized cut as reported
here.
As July 4th approaches the group had no other choice than to release their Transformers Theme song independently. Black Lab member and long time Transformers fan, Andy Ellis, stated that the group is obsessed with Transformers and they are excited about their new release because it has the G1esque sound that people are dying to hear.
Click
here to hear it. More information can be found at
Blacklabworld. The song will be available at iTunes at the end of June.

I liked it, a remake of the classic theme from the orginal flick... It's a shame it was passed over, I thought it was pretty faithful!

Hell yeah now thats a theme! Not as good as the originle but better than what we got. It needs to be faster and have a better singer. Hell just get a better singer. But its still 100% better than what we've been given. I wish my band was still together. We played the lion theme during parctice. It was basicly the same just with Iron Maiden like gutiar solos in the middle. I must now form a new band and show paramount what a real TF theme sounds like.

Pretty cool. Definitely better than Mute Math's.
The vocals seemed a little choked/restrained trying to get that fairly monotonous robotic like tone.
I think Dragonforce or Mastondon should have given it a go
THAT would be rocking. I love the ATHF sountrack
.

I have to agree, Mutemath's take sucked, and this...actually the best one since Lion set the bar very high in 1986.
Come on Lion, reunion!!!

Blech. Lousy vocals, instrumentation not much different than Lion's version. What's the point of even doing a new version if you're just carbon-copying the old one? (Note, this is not a defense of the new soundtrack material, as I've not heard the majority of it)
Everyone clamoring for this stuff should be reminded that both the 1986 cartoon movie and its soundtrack have been re-released and shouldn't be too hard to find.

Oh yeah, much better, but maybe it's a little too similar to Lion's theme. Terrible vocals. I'am guessing that's why it wasn't chosen.

Why they overlooked this in favor of Mutemath is highly likely because they are retarded. Realistically, because Mutemath's label were able to offer more money as part of the promotional package. Still, although I don't prefer the vocalist who is sounds like a clichéd cross between trying to sound hardcore, trying to sound sexy, and really sounding tired and bored, it's one hell of a lot better than Linkin Park's or Mutemath's versions. It's a modern rock cover of the White Lion theme from the 1986 movie. It would have been absolutely perfect to start out the closing credits. The utter stupidity of passing on this forces me to resist the urge to shoot myself in the eye. (Note I say it forces me to resist the urge because if they went with it instead, I would not actually have the urge.) God knows what other good submissions they passed on before exclaming "Hey crap! The public likes crap!"

hmmm... Sounds like the Lion version from the animated film and Vince DiCola's original movie theme merged together. It's ok, but nothing spectacular. Still upset that Lion's version didn't have the "Robots In Disguise" part in it like the movie did. I'm just pissed off that it seems that there won't be an actual score for the film. Just crappy pop, rock and R&B music. And if there is, not enough to warrent a CD release of the score itself.

While I did like how it sounded, I can see how it was passed over. It was nothing more than a cover of the Lion version from the original movie soundtrack.
Bay and company have gone in a completely different direction than we were used to with just about EVERYTHING associated with this movie, right down to changing Spike's name -- would anyone expect that the theme song would be treated any different?
If Black Lab really wanted to get a song onto this soundtrack, they should have realized the only chance they would have had would have been to come up with something COMPLETELY original...

I'm gonna pay the dollar and buy the song. They did a good job, and it's the best tribute to TF that I've heard in a long time. Probably listen to the rest of their music and consider that too. Sux that they aren't in the soundtrack though.

The thing I like about this and the "Deceptibots" versions...
1) They actually have the G1 theme as a part of the song in more than just lyrics.
2) They've got energy.
The Mutemath version just drives me nuts because, as I once saw it described, the Mutemath version sounds like it was done by a lazy, apathetic Sting. Their stuff could have fit well into the movie. Why they gave them the theme song, and let them produce something that SOUNDS nothing like the theme it's supposedly based on, is beyond me.
IMO, this album, and the theme specifically, cried out for Relient K.

The reason the song didn't get picked for the movie is that Warner Bros. Records (who is releasing the soundtrack) didn't want any non-Warner Music Group affiliated artists on the soundtrack. WMG is kind of hurting for cash right now, so they want it all in house. That's why the bands are all acts like Linkin Park, MuteMath, Armor for Sleep, Goo Goo Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.

I am so totally jonesing for some Transformer toys, video, old movies. I haven't been like this since the Classics line came out.
The new movie was going to be included until I remembered the ones who made the movie rejected this song and anything by Stan Bush. I don't care about who you're contracted by as long as the music is good.
This is my Transformers: the Movie (2007) theme song.

And the vocals were HORRENDOUS! Who ever told this guy he could actually sing needs to be shot
I can see why the song didnt make the cut. But if you had linkin park or hinder or just anout any band of the genre do that version of the song.... I would been KICK Arse!

As much as I want to strangle myself for saying this.... I think Mutemaths version is 100 times better than this version OVERALL.
I like the music and the nostalgia of this version better but there is no energy to it. The singer is horrible and to me, it seems as if the whole song is just toned down and well.... DULL

Maybe that's just the reason why it was passed. Too faithful would make people associate it with those pesky boxy designs again.
To me this version is a huge improvement from the Mutemath stuff though I'm not too keen on the lazy sounding vocals. Could have been a bit more of an original take. This pretty much took Lions version and mixed it with some DiCola material. Still definitely best of the recent three versions. I guess more will pop up during the next few weeks.

This version is soooooo darn good.
Much better than Mute Math's version........their version was terrible for many reasons....first one being part rap? christ on a bike. Second with the lyric "Protecting all that you love".....puuuurrrrlese.....darn awful lyrics. ¬_¬
I liked the actual music at the start of the track which was from the "Autobots Vs Decepitcon" track off the original OST.
I do feel however that parts of vocals could have been beefed up, say like a electronic voice over Transformers or something.....abit like Deftones' "Elite" song.

however, i think if you've got f**king huge ass robots kicking each others asses, then you need a decent heavy rock song like this. theres no two ways about it really,
Awesome montage of clips to. kick ass
