Well, there are a handful of SG characters who, instead of having familiar bodies with reverse colors, have different bodies with familiar colors. Galvatron, Jazz, Alpha Trion, etc.DISCHARGE wrote:He definitely looks more Classics than Shattered Glass,

I sincerly doubt the rumored octopunch new head sculpt is gonna save this figure being all kinds of horrible.

I see your point, but for me at least, the use of alternate colors sticks out more as a SG theme than the use of a previously unused alt mode. Using the base colors of a character with a new alt mode is done on a regular basis with the onset of many new lines. In the end though I really don't care, aren't too many SG figures I like anyway.

Because that's the most iconic part of him, plus all Pretender homages have been based off of the shell.

They're not supposed to be ducks, unless someone was making an inside joke. They are tentactles that just happen to look like ducks.

I think I like the explanation someone else said earlier in the thread better than the ducks one, it looks like two tentacles fondle his nipples.

I believe you're talking about the ROTF repaint of Wreackage?
That doesn't refference the shell due to not being meant as an update of the original character, while the Voyager version was designed as a Classics version of the character.
SG Bludgeon is just a purpose of RID Bludgeon and ment as a nice nod to that incarnation of the character. I give you that on Submarauder though.
Also another reason why they homaged the shell with this one is the simple fact that, there is no toy that turns into a crab in any of the recent toy-lines, which they limited themselves to.

The Botcon 2007 Alpha Trion figure was not classified as "Shattered Glass". The SG concept came out a year later in 2008. Now if they started using SG stories in the comics before Botcon 2008, I honestly wouldnt know.

TF wiki says Storm Surge is a Target exclusive, not a Botcon exclusive. Since I have never read the comic, are you saying Target based this repaint on a SG character ???

Rather both those figures and many others were repurposed into SG fiction.

Doesn't mean a whole lot to re-purpose Autobots and Decepticons into a theme if people don't read the media or even care about the theme.
I don't buy it anyway, Shattered Glass needs to follow the basic themes, and one of them is swapping the colors of the factions. I mean these go back as far as Beast Machines Tigertron? WTF!? That's garbage. Basically you can just say that any recolor is Shattered Glass and BOOM! you got yourself an army of evil Autobots.
In media I'm fine with, that's laying down some mythology for people to read in to. But as official toys, I may be old school, when the corporate suits have their Chinese orphans working 18 hours a day stamp or sticker or however they wanna do it, a Transformer is labeled that faction 4Life.
If people want to take toys out of their own collection and re-purpose that's fine too, do what you want with your toys, but all of a sudden Fun Pub wants to write them into a story and they are officially Shattered Glass toys, it's just gonna cause headaches.

FunPub isn't changing anything about the original intent Hasbro had for the toy or character. They're offering existing fill-ins for characters they know they aren't going to get to. Plus, if they use a character in a prose story, readers are naturally going to want to know what the character looks like and some are going to want to put one on display with the real Shattered Glass figures. So they have two choices: create a character with no toy and be called bastards for not giving people the, say, Shattered Glass Huffer they want or say that the black version of Armorhide (who they already used as Huffer themselves) was evil Huffer and move on with their lives.
It doesn't change the original toy, it just gives the option to the people who want it.

Maybe I'm not reading your post right, but it sounds like you wouldn't have been interested in the toy if someone else hadn't been able to give you the insight of what it could be. And regardless of how good said toy is you would never know with out the re-purposing.
Has it really come down to a group like Fun Pub to tell us what is what in the toy collective? It's one thing when fans and TF forum posters express what they do with toys from a past line. When Fun Pub does it they are just messing with continuity. Like I said, maybe I'm just looking at it from an old school perspective.
Using a Universe connotation is one thing, or even Timelines, to encompass all Transformers into one big collective or mythos. But when you use the clubs Jetfire repaint Astrotrain and say it is now Shattered Glass it gets a little confusing and pointless, what with a huge purple Con tag stamped on his bay doors. So now he is Shattered Glass Shattered Glass where the opposite is the opposite of the opposite? (meaning that the tag colors would not be reversed they would stay the same, but the moral grounds they stand on would still be the opposite ie: Evil Autobots-red\Heroic Decepticons-purple)

By not using a character that exists in a previous line it allows them to build upon their own idea of Shattered Glass\Timelines and offer them as actual club offerings in terms of repaints exclusive to club members and convention attendees. Something that the club should recognize for themselves.
All re-purposing does is help fuel the ebay sales of the listed re-purposed figures and give people generic Shattered glass figures in their collections.

Well, had Animated gone into its fourth season, there would have been a Shattered Glass-themed episode with Bulkhead and Sari winding up in the SG Animated universe. We probably would have seen these people in said episode:Rated X wrote:Wow you guys are digging a little too deep into the whole Shattered Glass concept. I hope some guy from Funpub isnt reading these posts and saying give em more repaints because they cant get enough of them on the forums. I have a couple KO shattered glass figures that I use as "Cybertronian Decpeticons". I dont really like the SG concept because it just seems too "comic bookish" to be used on the big screen or a TV mini-series.
And the the whole concept seems to have originated with the Mirror Universe of Star Trek (a TV series).

Nope, that's an accurate statement. I was high after Botcon '08 with Shattered Glass and wanted to increase the universe, I got and used the Black Huffer as well as other repaints to fill it. I had the Huffer mold from before with Botcon '07 Huffer and Cybertron Armorhide (My Classics Pipes) before so I know from experience what a good mold it is. I just didn't have the justification to get Black Huffer until SG came out.
