Now, to speculate what the theme will be. More than likely something related to the thirtieth anniversary...

I would bet sometime around Early-mid May. Also highly depends if they sell out.

I'd like to see some Diaclone homages, but not for the entire set as I think it'd be kinda boring.
Something that would cross many years of TF history is my hope.

Lots to do there, or try DC, Boston, New Orleans, or maybe overseas. You can get by pretty cheap in Europe, look up Rick Steves's travel guides.

Yeah I do want to get back up there and check out the Freedom Tower. I been to New Orleans too. Best food ever fried catfish on the river.
But for me, half the fun of Botcon is seeing a new city. I already went to Pasadena at Botcon 2011. And last June I went to Botcon in San Diego. Ive seen enough of California.

That's an argument that has made the rounds in recent years. It would be nice if it really was a cross-country event, but the conclusion that a lot of fans have come to is that it makes sense financially for BotCon to be out West due to production and distribution reasons. I'm not saying I agree, nor am I speaking for anyone else, I'm just touching up on what I've read here and other places. Bottom line is, Hasbro and FunPub go to California because it's most convenient for a large part of the fan base as well as their bank accounts. They have gone to other cities as well (Orlando, Dallas, etc.) but California is more frequent due to these reasons.

As for Shattered Glass Beast Wars, that would be a cool idea for 2 years from now, the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars.
For this year, I think it will be something that's either totally G1, or something that spans 30 years, from G1 to Prime.

So you live in America's Tatooine too, huh? I also am so unfortunate.
Despite the rational reasons stated, I'm inclined to agree with you. I havent been to Bot-Con since 2004 for this very reason. They used to centralize the thing a bit more, but those days are gone like tiny, fast missiles on toys.
California. Again. Really?
Given the cost of having to fly there it might as well be in Europe. Or on Cybertron, if it were real. Oh! Oh! Hey Fun Pub, why not the freakin' center of the Earth?! I hear the Lava Monsters love TFs too!

Or at least bring it back to Chicago or Ft. Wayne like it was back in the day.. I have yet to make it to Pasadena so I'm excited about next year. Would like to see it start to move around a little more instead of going back to the same places every other year but seeing that it is the 30th anniversary there is probably a good reason to have it in a location where many of the voice actors live who wouldn't normally travel for a botcon.

Mindmaster wrote:So, uh, question: what package is the cheapest route to go, but still get the box-set and the free figure? Would it still be the Primus package, or is there a slightly cheaper package that still includes those goodies?
The "Free figure" is for attendees only that have Primus packages. The Iacon package for non-attending gets you the box set but not the extra loose figure. That said, the $100 or so average aftermarket for the attendee figure is maybe 1/6 the cost of a flight from Wilmington to LAX.
Souvenirs sometimes sell out and aren't available on their site after, sometimes they don't sell out and are available on their site after. If they are, they end up being the same price as they were at the show, although shipping then comes into play.

They sailed across the inky-black where the heavens can't be found
No light could show, no wind could blow, no soul could make a sound
Yet each mech aboard, garbed for war, holding a cutlass or a gun
and from the spotter above came the sign - We're bound for Cybertron!
It appears this year's theme will be Pirates! BotCon 2014 will be held in Pasadena, CA June 19th through 22nd.

I was kinda hoping BotCon 2014 would be Beast Hunters themed, though. Thought we'd get some cool FE Bee and BH Smokey repaints to correspond with the show. Maybe it's still a possibility.
In any case, I'm excited to see what happens.

If this is truly the theme, Cannonball's a given. Maybe from Arms Micron Breakdown, if FunPub's nuts enough.

Looking up the Star Seekers lineup, they all use names well within Hasbro's reach:
- Cannonball
- Axer/Axor
- Sandstorm
- Brimstone
And in Cybertron, Buzzsaw, Skywarp, Brushguard and Runamuck were under Cannonball's command. I see potential.

Gokaiger aired 3 years ago, those of us who pay attention to these things knew when it'd show up here. It's more coincidence than anything that a Pirate Botcon set happens this year, too.

They always have to steer clear of the main line — characters/molds/lines currently on the shelf... and Botcon is generally shooting for a self-contained story and set of figures. That's not a surprise.
You can't fault them for having to follow rules set down by Hasbro.

1) is it worth it to register her?
2) is it worth it to buy her the convention set(s) in hopes of selling them after market?
3) if I am only able to swing one or two days, is it better to hit the earlier day(s) or later day(s)? Can you buy all the exclusives if you only show up early or late?
4) any other first-timer thoughts would be appreciated. I listened way back to the twin cast that covered the topic. I probably need to hit it again.
Thanks!

Ive been to quite a few of the BotCons and I always drag my wife along with me (bless her for putting up with it). In my experience I would answer as follows.
1.) I have always registered my wife as a minicon so she can get into all of the panels and all of the days (mainly Friday). It also gets her into the dinner and game night / awards. It is also a must if you want her to be able to have her pick up the extra set and or exclusives.
2.) I personally have never tried to sell an extra set or exclusives to help pay for the trip but many do. Most of the years turns out pretty good but it depends on how popular the Botcon theme is. I think some people got burned with it last year. I personally liked last years set but there were a lot in the fandom that did not like it. My wife was actually thinking of maybe giving the Primus package a try this year.
3.) The big day is Saturday. That is the day that has the best panels (usually the Hasbro panel) as well as the dinner and game night. Friday usually only has a few things going on and mainly getting into the dealer room early if you registered as a Primus or Minicon package. Sunday only goes to about 3PM and while they usually do have some good panels, if you have to miss a day this would probably be the one. As for buying the exclusives that also depends on how popular the theme is. Sometimes they sell out by Saturday afternoon or very early Sunday morning. I usually do the VERY long wait on Thursday night during pickup and just get the exclusives then so I never have to worry about missing out.
4.) BotCons are a lot of fun and I think everybody should try to get at least to one. If your looking for certain Transformers, I would say make a list to prioritize what your looking for. When going into the dealer room do a quick once through to gauge some prices. Some booths right next to each other can sometimes be $10 to $20 apart on prices. Have fun.
I hope that will help you out. If you have any other questions feel free to post or PM me.
