The questions before you here are, based on these sketch pages, who is the focus of this upcoming (in June) SPOTLIGHT? And who is the artist?
Ryall isn't giving away any further information, but you can check out his blog by clicking here.
So who do you think the Spotlight is focusing on? Discuss your thoughts theories below!

Wheelie is the worst possible choice for a spotlight, so you KNOW it's going to be good!

Or he's been readin my posts.
Or it's a coincidence.

zodconvoy wrote:I never understand the general hatred for Wheelie. I like him! As a concept anyway. Think about it...
He's the only person he knows living in the wilds of Quinntessa, dodging Sharkticons and Allicons all day but clearly unafraid. After all, the first thing he does is look for a opening to attack Grimlock and take over the Dinobot "pack". That's like a 10 year old picking a fight with MechaGodzilla. By his actions, he is accepted by the most xenophobic group of Autobots and even gets them to follow him! Before that? Who knows where he even came from? I always figured he was a Junkion kid or at least TV taught like them...
He's not the lame retarded kid they depicted in Season 3.
He's Mowgli from the Jungle Book!
Here's Counter Punch backing me up:

Let's get this straight here about Wheelie.
When Galvatron attacks, what do most Transformers do?
They run. They run away like little girls.
What does Wheelie do when Galvatron attacks him in "The Five Faces of Darkness"?
He shoots Galvatron in the face.
That, my friends is harsh.
F' with Wheelie, get shot in the face Dick Cheney style.
Wheelie will kick any bodies ass and they won't even see it coming.
CAN YOU DIG IT!

The character was done a great injustice in the movie, show, and figure.
May Wheelie finally get his due - and stop talking in rhyme.

Bold move, but a good one IMHO. I loved the G1 kids book about him: "Wheelie, Wild Boy of Quintessa."
If you haven't seen it, check it out. It focuses on the survivalist part of his bio. It is his story of crashing on Quintessa with his family. Only Wheelie survived.

I'm looking forward to it, hoping that Roche gets a go with the art, as he did some awesome work with Spotlight: Kup, I fully expect this to be a dark and sombre Spotlight like Kup.

While Ultra Magnus is in one panel, it is clearly Wheelie on the splash page with the title "Survival Run" adding extra emphasis to it being the Wild Boy of Quintessa.

Wheelie busts rhymes, lives in the Cybertron Ghetto, picks fights with Dinosaurs, and lives life wearing safety-orange.
He is in effect, daring people to shoot at him.
Wheelie is all like, "Camouflage? F' that. Let them suckas see my stylin', profiln' ass. I'll bust a rock upside their head. F' with Wheelie and you get dead."

He said two more characters from the (1986) movie would be getting spotlights (Ultra Magnus, Kup and Hot Rod already out). Spotlight: Galvatron came out not long after that and they showed Prime listening to a call from Wheelie in the Optimus Spotlight on page 1.
Anyone with basic brain functions should not be one bit surprised by this announcement.
You forgot to mention Ultra Magnus and Arcee, both of whom have had Spotlights as well. I'd love to see a Springer Spotlight, quite frankly. He was always the coolest character from the movie, tied with Kup.

"Suck" is still, and always will be, "Suck"!

Or, give us his backstory and end the issue with him alone on Quintessa, crying like a little bitch.
No, seriously though, this actually has potential. As noted earlier in this thread, Wheelie's bio information actually makes him pretty cool: stranded survivalist on an alien world.
All I ask of IDW is to do one of two things:
1- Kill Wheelie.
or
2- Make him a survivalist loner badass and not some whiny rhyming bitch.
Character, character, character. That's the key, kids.

Think about Megatron. G1 Megatron was a shmuck that made lots of wild plans, but had no follow through. Which is just like most of the villians of the `80s, to be honest, so its not really his fault.
But IDW Megatron is a hardcore badass that almost killed Prime in their very first meeting on Earth.
IDW's take on G1 characters is so new and fresh that you really don't know what to expect. Which is a good thing.

I appended my post to add Ultra Magnus. Probably at the same time you were posting to say I didn't. No biggie.
Arcee's Spotlight isn't out yet and as far as Furman was concerned (at the time of said announcement), Fembots were not part of the IDW universe. The Megatron: Origin, which contradicted that, was produced after his statement was out and he had nothing to do with that series. Fembots in the IDW-verse are the fault of either/both Eric Holmes (story) or/and Alex Milne (art).
Sorry, it took me a day to get back to this. Yeah, I included Arcee's just based on the announcement. I thought about appending it to say something about Arcee's being forthcoming, but then I'm sort of lazy about it to. Or apathetic, whichever.
I do remember Furman later on saying that he was working on a way to include Fembots in the continuity, which probably has something to do with Jhiaxus' experiments. I don't think any plot points go on in the IDW-verse without Furman's approval, even if it is written by someone else, which means that the Arcee story has to be something completely removed from the continuity, like Kup's, or Furman is in on it. Furman promised Kup is coming into play later on, and he's already hinted that Arcee's spotlight is going to affect the continuity, which means that he's now on board for female Transformers.

Soundwave already had one. It came out before Spotlights: Kup, Galvatron, Optimus Prime, and Ramjet as the first of the second wave of Spotlights that came after Shockwave, Nightbeat, Sixshot, Hot Rod, and Ultra Magnus. It explains how Ravage and Laserbeak got to Earth in the first place for their appearance in Devastation under Skywatch's control and answers when Bludgeon came to Earth to find Ore 13 to power Thunderwing in Strombringer.
