Overall, I'm going to get this. I first rented this at Blockbuster when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and this set me on my path of being a Transformers fan, even though I had almost no idea who any of the characters from the show were. So with help from this movie, the Armada toys (My first two Transformers were Cyclonus and Deluxe Optimus Prime), and one of my best friends, I have become a lifelong fan of Transformers.

Both sets include a Digital Download code so that you can watch it in all of its new digital glory right on the comfort of your computer or mobile device at any time. The url for the download, TFTheMovie1986.com, is currently unavailable but should function by the Blu-Ray's release date on September 13th, 2016.
Bonus features included with these sets:

- ... and more (screenshots later this weekend)
Both the fullscreen and widescreen versions of the film are included. First time on Blu-Ray in North America. Brand-new bonus materials. Movie shown as never seen before: remastered from a new 4K transfer. Looks fantastic!

That's not how it looks on my TV or laptop. Here's the same frame (or close to it) from my laptop. Click on the images to view the difference (oddly the smaller image looks the same until you zoom in). The one with the black bars is from my laptop.
As for the "cut" of the widescreen, you and I both know the widescreen version is BS and that the proper way to view all of image is with the full size version.

Thanks, man. That really helps. The screenshots that were used in the comparison must have been early unfinished versions that Shout! Factory used as placeholders before they fully completed their transfer or something. I'll let the guy who did the comparisons know that the final product isn't nearly as dark as those he believed.Seibertron wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Saw these comparisons between screencaps of the UK Blu-Ray and screencaps of the Shout! This is great value, as usually domestic Blmueray/DVD/CD prices are through the roof like, 60 dollars for the Japanese version of the same product).
I hope the blueray is all region and that the digital copy is DRM-free. If not, will consult my good friend google about remedying it... I have pre-ordered it anyway, but this is the last time I'm buying this, even if the aliens fro Men and Black give us a new media in a few years. No more "White Albums" again for me!

S!F Blu rays I have purchased are region A only. Fortunately Japan & North America share the same region, so you should be ok. --I only know this because on other forums I have communicated with folks form the UK, and they could not play S!F Blu Rays, unless they got some "work around" such as a region free blu ray player or specialized computer software that would serve the same purpose.

The menu screen for the Blu-ray version of the movie shows off Optimus Prime and Hot Rod, with Optimus showing off the matrix and all its glowing energy. It also has the Decepticons and Unicron in various positions in the background. But the most interesting thing happens when one goes to the Bonus Features screen, which features 3 brand new features: 'Til All Are One, a retrospective documentary with the cast; Transformers: The Restoration; and Rolling out the New Cover.
Yesterday's Twincast/Podcast #155 also got a hand in checking out the new features, so feel free to head on over and download the Podcast to listen to some of the staff's thoughts on the new release of the movie.
This new version of the classic 1986 movie is set to be released tomorrow, September 13, so head on over to the below links to get your copy of this milestone movie!

I ask because the Walking Dead season 6 DVD doesn't have the unedited Megan scene so I was wondering if something similar would occur with this.
Thank you for any and all help!

Hell, even just colouring one of the two Frenzys as Rumble (you know which shot I mean) would be enough to make it the best version, in my eyes.

Not aware of any differences between the two special feature wise - this is based on the info from Shout Factory's websiteBlackCharger wrote:Will the Blueray and Steelbook Blueray have features that the DVD version will not have or will they all have the same features on all of the versions?

I emailed them several times today because I wanted to know what was going on. The pre-order DID have day of release delivery, that's what all their movies and CDs offer. They did explain how things are shipped and I did get a free month of Prime.

Any chance of a screen capture (or even just snapping a pic of the screen with a camera)? Hot Rod looking right (as opposed to how he did on the 20th DVD) takes this from a "meh, I'll probably get it eventually" to "oh man, I better snap this up as soon as possible)

No such luck...but I was close enough to a non-chain media store...low and behold they had it! $20. No need to pre-order weeks/months in advance, just walk on in and buy it...Ahh I miss the good old days.

The local Best Buy in my area has informed me that there are no copies in Ontario or Canada for that matter.
Is there a shortage of this going around that I don't know about?
This is bogus!

Nope got nothing like that in my area, few chain stores and a comic shop everything else closed down years ago. Plus i wouldnt use FYE if they were still around, had a bad experience with them and vowed never to use them again. But i checked out the other best buy and they had a single copy of the steelbook version, thats the only version they got in and it was the last copy in the area. Surprised target doesnt have it, i got Escape From NY from them and thats a hell of a lot less popular than transformers.

Less popular than the Paramount Movie franchise YES. Less popular than TF:TM itself...no
We as fans love TF:TM..but outside our niche, its not really well known. I was fortunate . The guy I was asking about it could not even find it in the directory...he kept thinking I was looking for one of the Bay Films...He didn't even know there was a "cartoon movie"...it was only by chance a younger female clerk overheard my conversation as I kept saying "30th anniversary edition" over and over again...she found it in their system and where it would be in the store.
Glad you found one though. The clerks at my Best Buy had no clue.

FYE had all 3 versions, Steelbook for like $32 (I think), regular BR for 22 (Again I think) and DVD for $10 (that I'm sure of).
Meijers only had the DVD (at least I didn't see the BR) for a buck less than FYE.

I really thought that Shout! Factory was going to FINALLY give this film the treatment it deserves. I was pumped, and enthralled that the 30th anniversary of this 1986 film was finally seeing a Blu-ray release in the USA from an official source.
I put the disc in. Nice animated menu. Went to the Bonus section and watched the new videos, paying close attention to the one about the "restoration." It was fascinating to see the actual process. Well, what they were allowed to show that is. There were some screens blurred out and such, probably containing industry secrets. Okay, back out to the nice menu, and started the film. They didn't address the gate weave? Okay, so they didn't. Ooh, this background looks nice! Then, more scratches. Did they paint ANY of them out like they claimed in the video? I was starting to get a bit concerned. Once you see errors on something so important to you, you can't UNsee them. Then it happened. 8:36. Eight minutes and thirty-six seconds. Through to 8:44. Some of the WORST video I have seen on an official release. It's like someone hit a switch that dropped the quality to VHS while another person was trying, and failing, to give the scene a 3D conversion gone horribly wrong. There's suddenly two outlines of Hot Rod and my eyes actually tried to cross when this happened. I couldn't believe it.
I haven't been this disappointed since my marriage. I was so jarred by that short little bit of the scene that it just took me out of the experience all together. I just kind of skimmed the rest and, aside from the usual scratches and gate weave (I thought this was a newly sourced print?), I just ejected the disc and put it away. I honestly don't know if I'm going to be keeping this. Maybe that horrible error, as well as the usual suspects, can finally be addressed in the Super-Deluxe This Is It Folks.... No, Seriously Edition in five or ten years. One additional note about the audio. It's better, yes. But still needs a LOT of work. There are moments that you think the events on screen will blast you out of your chair, then it gets unusually quiet in the middle of the action. One bot punches another, they return the blow and it sounds like they were recorded from two different eras. Very jarring.
I know that this movie is something that will never be "perfect", but it really looks like a rush job. I gave a lot of low grades on this, and I wish that I didn't have to. Video received a 2.5 for the gate weave (Really, there is no excuse for this. Fan editors and students can remove it for crying out loud) and scratches. Audio received a 2.5 as well due to being uneven and jarring to the point of becoming disinterested. Extras I gave a 1.5. Terrible. The new video was nice, but Shout! Factory didn't port over all of the extras from the Sony 20th anniversary extras. Instead, they included just a few, not upscaled. I always say, if you're gonna port them over, port them ALL. So, with that we end up with a 2.5 overall. Pretty bad for such a long wait.

What I actually wanted to comment on here was something Zi don't think has been brought up.
SUBTITLES. S!F has been criticized in the past for not offering subtitles for the deaf/hard-of-hearing. Now this doesn't effect me personally, but we have become accustomed to watching many movies with subtitles as they initially assisted my daughter in learning to read.
This is the first release ever of TF:TM with subtitles. Bravo to S!F for the attempt. however I myself typed up the dialogue of the movie myself 20+ years ago (when all we had was VHS). Now would *think* that S!F would have had a copy of the script to go by, and I do understand some characters such as Blurr, Wreck-Gar and Wheelie deliver some lines that are difficult to translate, but I did notice a few errors, and surprisingly a few lines of dialogue that apparently I had wrong all this time, now finally brought to light. I think however they may have just gotten fan-script" online and didn't QC it very well. Here are a few things I noticed:
general observations:
Anytime a character transforms it appears as: [robotic pulsing]
I don't think the spelling of the Universal Greeting will ever be agreed upon until we see an original screipt
Errors:
1. in the beginning Arblus is incorrectly named "Orbulus"
2. During the attack of Autobot City, Kickback's line "delicious eh Shrapnel?" is incorrectly translated as "delicious eh Scrap-mate?"
3. When the near-dead Decepticons are pushed out of Astrotrain, someone says "Brothers, Don't!" the word "Brothers" is omitted from the subtitling
4. A lot of Blurr's Dialogue is truncated. Often repeated words only appear once, and some dialogue is absent altogether.
5. When a line of dialogue starts with a conjunction, it is sometimes omitted- Unicrons line "...But very well, I'll Provide you with a new body..." and Scourges line "But remember, we belong to HIM"... in both cases the "But" is removed, there are other examples of this.
*possible* errors* as stated earlier, some characters lines are hard to distinguish unless you have the original script here are some that I have a difference of opinion with, but again I may be wrong, maybe like some song lyrics, I've just bearing hearing it wrong all these years:
1.Wheelies line when he reveals the Quintesson ship I always thought was "Dipster, over there" (referring to a junk car, or in this case, a junky space ship), but on the subtitles it translates as "Give stare, over there", which makes more sense I admit, but it doesn't sound anything like that to me.
2. Wrteck-Gar's line after Hot Rod says "We have to Destroy Unicron"...I always heard as "Yes Friends act now...destroy unicron" (like a call to action a telemarketer would use)
instead they have it as "Yes friends, and now, Destroy Unicron"...which makes no sense to me, but whatever.
3. Another line from Wreck-Gar when the Junkion ship is fired upon by Unicron, I always heard as "Friends get it now...resist fire, rain and corrosion for up to 5 years..." (again a telemarketer pitching a product)
but it reads onscreen "Framed in Enamel, resist fire, rain and corrosion for up to 5 years" which *could* make sense...it just doesn't sound like that to me.
4. lastly is Unicrons last line I've ALWAYS heard it as "It's too late, you cannot, destroy...my destiny!!(head blows off)... which to me makes way more sense than-
what it translates as ""Destiny... you cannot, destroy...my destiny!!(head blows off)...now to me there is no way, other than them both being 3 syllables "It's too late" sounds like "Destiny"...but then again I remember the end of the Transformers Armada PS2 game, Unicron saying the same thing, thinking it was just an "odd variation" of the TF:TM line, it sounds nothing like that to me, but could it be I've just heard it wrong all these years...?
There may have been a few other oddities/errors I missed. I also thought it was interesting, perhaps even the author of the subttles didn't even know what wreck-gar was saying at times as it shows up as *speaking alien language* heh...
lastly, the TF Theme by Lion has fully translated lyrics in both the opening and closing credits, none of the other songs during the film however are translated.
Posted by Sabrblade on September 16th, 2016 @ 3:50pm CDT
For these two, I always heard "Give stare, over there" and "Destiny... you cannot... destroy... my... destiny!!" every time I watched the movie.o.supreme wrote:1.Wheelies line when he reveals the Quintesson ship I always thought was "Dipster, over there" (referring to a junk car, or in this case, a junky space ship), but on the subtitles it translates as "Give stare, over there", which makes more sense I admit, but it doesn't sound anything like that to me.

For the rest of the "possible errors", without double checking the movie, I'm not sure about #3 but I'm pretty sure you're right in thinking #2 is erroneous.
