Let’s say go, Victory Saber HasLab backers! Check out some behind-the-scenes-photos of the Victory Saber HasLab! The Transformers Hasbro and Takara Tomy designers use these mold plans to know exactly the color and type of plastic each piece will be made with.
In the photos you can see the V-Shield, V-Lock Cannon, and the Translucent Autobot display stand. Can you spot the pieces of the Brain of Courage Brainmaster figure? Here’s a hint there are 5 pieces. Try to find them in molds, 3, 4, 13, and 18. Can you find them all?
Stay tuned for more HasLab backer updates as we take you through the development process on this awesome item.
Until next time, Let’s Say Go!

Most likely two halves of the same thing.

Most likely it's a second blade that they prototyped out, the layout on paper shows only one blade. Probably trying to work out the best sword length for both Saber and Star Saber.

Probably one for each form so that Star Saber's sword doesn't feel too short for him but also Saber's sword doesn't feel too long. It's a common tactic.

That's what I was assuming, but Hasbro never mentioned two swords during the funding stage as far as I'm aware. So I think they might have either tossed one in as a bonus, or the others are right and it's two halves of the same sword, or they're still working on the length

I recall when they showed the resin prototype originally that they were working on making the sword so it could be oriented either way (parallel or perpendicular) within the hilt. It is possible that doing that required more than a 2 piece blade and the 2 pieces seen here plus the small part to the left make up the whole thing.

o.supreme wrote:I imagine with a project as extensive as VS, they will make absolutely sure the molds come out right. Still, if they follow this procedure on all their items, it raises even more questions about what happened with Jackpots head.
Probably only tested the parts they planned to use for Jazz so they never actually tested Jackpots head the first time. When they realized there were mold issues there it was a little late and way too expensive to fix the mold just for his head. I'm still trying to figure out why they made his head in three parts instead of two as normal or even one. Even Jazz's head is a normal front and back set of parts instead of both sides and the face. Failed experiment I guess.

“As you can see from these images, the tools for Victory Saber are being prepped. Tools are giant slabs of steel, sculpted with laser etching to cut piece cavities in the molds. At this point in the process, tools will be polished and cleaned in order to make sure all of the pieces come out of the molds intact.
When we lay out molds, we group by what colors each piece is needed to be molded in. The mold pictured is for one of the red molds, and all of these red pieces will be part of the V-Star Jet, Autobot Saber, and the merged Star Saber figure.”

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the only Haslab to have a significant delay so far is the Razorscrest. (from fall 21 to spring 22). As long as I have VS by end of this calendar year in hand I'll be happy.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but some of those concepts aren't much different from what we're getting from Legacy Selects like Black Zarak.
I think a full color gatefold box would be really cool, though.

“Working with our design team, Guido explored many different style options to best represent Star Saber, Victory Leo, and the Victory Saber combined mode. He tested how the composition would fit within our packaging constraints, while still looking amazing on your shelf. The classic reformatting gridlines and structure scan design were an important part of the Transformers: Victory animation, and we wanted to make sure we incorporated them in the final art”
This packaging is still in progress but ew have a good idea of it's components now. You can see the different mock ups and line art from Guido below.

I know Unicron's got the WFC logo. But that just proofed it's unnecessary nor wanted, it was not shown in the Netflix animated series or storyline.
I'd rather they put HasLab instead if they must, and make it as minimal as possible.

Basically with Selects, - I call it just that "Selects", I have to really think about what year it came out, and as to what Generations line it corresponded to, but that is secondary information, not really vital to the release. I consider Haslab as basically a crowd-funded Selects toy, so whatever label they put on it wont effect me at the end of the day. A cool box with cool box art is defintely bonus though

I tend to keep windowless boxes that have great boxart. Reflector, the whole Commander class so far, The Ark, Ecto-1, etc. come to mind. This Star Saber will be kept for sure. That's why I don't want big logos on it.
To be fair, the WFC logo treatment on Unicron's box is not bad, but I still think it's unnecessary. HasLab/Unicorn is so much its own thing, it needn't be attached to a toyline.

All of HasLab's projects are made to go with an existing line, not just Unicron. Even the Ghostbusters Protonpack was made to go with an existing retail wand and they basically made an entire vintage line just to go with the G.I.Joe Skystriker.

Definitely looks to be that way, the big takeaways for me were the fact that wing saber has double butterfly joints at the shoulder and an ab crunch. He can store the sword blade in his calf, and all the accessories can store fairly cleanly in all modes. The lion guy combines with wingsaber via a 5mm port and can therefore be attached to any figure with a 5mm port on their back (gives big cybertron wingsaber vibes) I also greatly appreciate how they designed the brainmaster figures, I thought it was very clever.
Of note, the guy said that the lion shoes could only combine with star saber "for now" meaning they might have another figure in the works that will be combatable with lion guy

o.supreme wrote:Yeah I caught that "for now" part. They may have initially been toying with the CW system as a means of connection, which would have been neat, ( thinking of Legacy motor master or even Legends God Bomber) but for stability I definitely get it, and am glad they went the way they did.
It's funny you mention godbomber, because I was wondering if they are working on a new version of him using this system, since they both upgrade via putting on shoes, can't think of anyone else that does that since they say saber "...is the only one he can combine with for now..."
