The Transformers saga erupts in Devastation

IDW Publishing’s latest Transformers title chronicles the third chapter in the series about the hidden war between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

San Diego, CA (September 6, 2007)—The Transformers’ secret war on Earth continues in IDW Publishing’s latest blockbuster, The Transformers: Devastation, the first issue of which hits comics shops in September. In Devastation, factions on Earth launch into bold and decisive action. With both the Machination and Skywatch poised to strike, both with Cybertronian technology and inside knowledge of the Transformers, the Autobots have no choice but to retreat. But the arrival on Earth of the Decepticon living super-weapon Sixshot promises only one thing: Devastation.

“We’ve been telling an ongoing saga, first with Infiltration, then with Escalation,” says Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief of IDW Publishing. “This continues the epic that we started a year and a half ago. This is where plot points and characters converge, where everything expands and the story blows up more than ever before.”

Devastation pulls in a range of characters, including those who appeared only in previous Transformer spotlight issues. Characters like Hot Rod and Sixshot both play major roles in Devastation, and fans will discover the startling fate of Hunter, one of the epic’s central human characters.

Devastation, like Infiltration and Escalation, features story and script by veteran Transformers writer Simon Furman, with art by fan-favorite E.J. Su.

In Infiltration, the Autobots struggled to prevent an Armageddon on Earth instigated by Decepticon, with the planet’s secret mechanical defenders relying on the unlikely aid of three misfit human allies. In Escalation, Optimus Prime and the Autobots confronted the impending menaces Megatron and Ore-13, only to see the Machination strike—with shocking and tragic consequences. And now, in the third series, those consequences go from dire… to devastating.

Cool. Does anyone know if there are TPBs to buy of Infiltration and Escalation? I might have missed one or two issues of Infiltration, and I know I missed all of Escalation, which makes me sad :-(.

Devestation needs to give us some answers.

Seriously.

Like the clip said, it's been over a year with nothing in terms of resolution.

There are TPBs available for Infiltration, Stormbringer, Escalation and the first 5 Spotlights.

Yeah so?

It took the readers of the old Marvel UK comics four years to figure out that they'd been reading about Straxus' Megatron clone instead of the real Megatron. It was a cool revelation when it finally got revealed.

Anywho, just be patient, it'll pay out in the end.

Wasn't there a rumor about a TPB that would include Infiltration AND Escalation? Is that going to happen at all? I'd hate to wait for something that isn't coming.

I now have all of these, as I'm late to the game where IDW is concerned. Amazing reads! Great art, even better story...just AWESOME! Amazon is a good place to find some deals on these, too. I'm only missing the Galvatron spotlight, but that shall soon be rectified. I'm looking forward to Devastation!! Hot Rod playing a large role has me stoked. His Spotlight shed some light on what is a complicated and interesting character.

"It is great to see Sixshot appearing in the series, very much the Boba Fett of Transformers. He is Terminator deadly and James Dean cool. As dangerous as Megatron, but without the lunacy and ambition, Sixshot’s appetite is all about destruction."

Friggin awesome...

I am really looking forward to Devastation, there are so many ways the story could go, so many threads!

As long as Ironhide and Sunstreaker aren't forgotten about because of Sixshot, I'll be fairly happy.

I always see them at Borders. I've stalked some B&Ns looking for a cheaper price, and my comic shops are a joke!

So try Borders.

here's my wee theory...... in the prime spotlight i thought the use of monstructor as opposed to all the other gestalts was a bit of a weird choice, til i realised that he's made up of six (count em) tfs. omega says that if the decepticons get hold of this technology we're all doomed etc.

what other gestalt is made up of six transformers, and whose name bears a startling resemblance to the word "devastation"?

CONSTRUCTICONS UNITE FTW! :D

but as i said...... just a theory. :-?

Oooo that would be cool to finally see Devastator in action.

Is anyone a wee bit disappointed in some of the personalities of the TFs and the humans in this story? I just picked up all the TPBs, just missing a few spotlights and the thing is that it seems some of the Autobots feel kinda out of character for me. Since when does Prime or Bumblebee regard human life with such coldness? I know that this is an update, though it would be interesting in turn to see how the TFs would suddenly feel if one of the humans called them what they called the humans.

Any thoughts about the humans? By the way did Megatron see Vertiy?
