"I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"

Edits by Seibertron (Ryan):
Just to avoid further confusion, this has nothing to do with the tried and true regular old school DVD format. The movie will be released on regular DVD. Paramount and Dreamworks announced yesterday that they would not be releasing the movie on Blu-Ray DVD but will be releasing it on HD-DVD (as well as regular DVD). We are a very, very, very long ways away from movies not being released on regular DVD.
Another topic I'd like to kill before I hear it again: this doesn't mean there won't be a Transformers 2. Trust me, there will most assuredly be a Transformers 2 from Paramount and Dreamworks. Bay is just saying that he won't direct Transformers 2 if Paramount/Dreamworks won't release TF on Blu-Ray. Paramount/Dreamworks can find another director to fill Bay's shoes if he steps aside.
Please do not read more into this article than what is written here.

Will they make a Transformers DVD for those who have regular one. Not everybody has HD-DVD.

If he doesn't return for TF2, I realy will be upset because stories always go down hill when directors change, and I'm tired of the constant rehashing of TRANSFORMERS.
I wish they would just pick a story and stick to it!
If he does leave though, can I suggest Simon Furman to take his place

You'll buckle like a belt at the money which will be offered to you in order to overcome your 'artistic objection'.
F' off Bay.

Yeah, Bay is just saying he won't do Transformers 2 if there's not a Blu-Ray DVD release. That doesn't mean there won't be a Transformers 2, it just means that Bay won't be doing it. Paramount/Dreamworks would just hire a different director.

This is dumb. Stupid and childlike. All because Bay himself bought a Blu-Ray player when they first came out.

Just so long as they find a good director for TF2... which as General Magnus said they would be deeply retarded not to make

That's either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what side of the fence you're on.

Yes, there will be a regular DVD. This is just in regards to the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray battle. We're a long ways away from them abandoning regular DVDs.

Which is good, but they didn't do themselves any favors by not actually saying that in the press release.

I think he's just saying he won't be a part of it. From earlier reports, TF2 already has the green light. With this version making nearly 650 million globally before IMAX and DVD sales, I don't think there's any doubt we'll see TF 2, 3, and beyond. If MB does indeed bow out of the chance to do another, Paramount will just find someone else to direct. Maybe Spielberg will step up to the plate...

Playing devil's advocate here ... what's wrong with Bay wanting to make more money by having the DVDs available for all 3 formats: regular DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD? I agree that it's a poor decision on behalf of the various major companies to only offer up one format on the next generation DVD players, but I don't see how you can fault Bay for wanting to make more money. I agree with Bay about Blu-Ray, but I disagree with him about his tactic.

well, its not fair that he acts like a five year old (not to say that i didnt) over some stupid thing as a platform it's so obvious that he wants more money for transformers than he deserves while the fans have to suffer a loss of tf2.

I hope TF2 doesent look like Robocop 3, or Superman 3, or god forbid Superman 4. Change of director is almost never good for Si-fi, and comic book based movies. Although X3 was good, but they killed a buncha people off...

Thanks Paramount!
We can already say that TF2 (should it ever see the light) will be just a bad sequel... just like most sequels...
AND... now I will try to hunt down an illegal copy because with PS3 I have Blu-Ray... and I am not going to buy a new player just because they feel like making shitty announcements!
Way to go to try to ban piracy!!!

You're misreading the story. There will most definitely 100% be a Transformers 2. Bay is just saying that he won't direct it. Paramount and Dreamworks will find another director if Bay steps aside.
Posted by Tigertrack on August 21st, 2007 @ 10:12am CDT
It's worked in the past with movies such as Harry Potter which did not really lose a step even though directorship has changed hands what, four times?
TF2 can still happen...

Good for Bay. He did a good job with the movie, revived the corpse that is this franchise, and now he's defending capitalism.
Good for him.

I personally like Micheal Bay's movies and i will tell anyone to piss off if they try to tell me otherwise.
However i think this is a bit stupid and a harsh knee-jerk decision to make just because his movie isnt being released on the lame, overkill, not needed Sony crap format that is Blu-ray.
Lets just clear one thing up though: Will Transformers be released on NORMAL DVD? The way these articles are worded it makes it sound as if there will be no NORMAL DVD release. If that happens i will have to kill someone, or worse still get a bootleg.
To start such a rumour is just cruel and ignorant and retarded because DVD hasnt been replaced yet, as few people actually have HD-DVD.

Next thread: who will be directing TF2. It's probably up already...
Posted by First Gen on August 21st, 2007 @ 10:21am CDT
No Bay for the sequal might lead to a movie with a........plot, yes thats what I meant to say. Maybe a lil preflash into the Cybertronian war on Cybertro? Eh, eh? sounds good eh? Bay wouldn't have done that.
Can't wait for the NEW Optimus and Co. which will be inevitable with new direction. MORE movie toys to buy and like the senseless little drone I am I'll buy them.
CP's right though, they'll flash the cash and Bay will be back.

I'm sure I said I wouldn't quit doing it either, if I were in the situation. At least I tried to say. I just thought that maybe he's afraid of doing a sequel, which always has the risk of not being as big as the first one. It wouldn't be the first time when sequel was directed by someone else than the first one's director, either. Also, he's probably at highest point of his career so far now, so he might be having his eyes on some other project too.
I'm not saying it makes perfect sense, but there might be reasons for not wanting to do second movie. Of course, all that is just some nonsensical stuff from my head, so don't take it too seriously.
Posted by Sparky on August 21st, 2007 @ 10:24am CDT
[ot] Meh, I think straight up not making a second one is a foolish idea. Good thing that' not what we're here to talk about, huh? I would hate to see how a second director would ruin it...oh, wait ya'all would whine about that too wouldn't ya? (admit it, ya'all would, so don't even try to deny it!)
Anywho, I feel switching to a new director when (not if) the second movie is made would be a bad decicion too.
I'm sure paramount will try to get him back, they'll try. I mean, wouldn't you if he had made that movie for you?
Again, just my two cents.
(besisdes, maybe they'll get'em back by adding blu-ray nto the deal? not like I use blu-ray...I dunno what it is, so I care not about it)
