"We just have, I think, a better story," he said. "It's epic and it happens in a city, so it's more accessible because you recognize stuff; it's not in a desert. It's kind of like 'Black Hawk Down' with our small group of heroes in a city."
In a follow up article Bay gave away a couple of slightly spoiler-ish tidbits regarding two new characters. To view the original story at MTV News click here!
On the carpet, Bay also briefly touched on two new alien bots set to debut in "Dark of the Moon." "Sentinel Prime is great. He's great," he said. "I can't tell you anything else, other than he's great."
And about the villain Shockwave, Bay say, "He's bad," adding that compared to Megatron, "He's got a much bigger gun [and is] a little bit more vicious."

I for one hate Transforming humans, Cybertron Robots & Alt Modes, and when generic Transformers are used as canon fodder (this obviously disconnects me from connecting with the robots and caring about them when they are shown to be killed so easily, and when there are countless versions of the same bot). They all need their own personalities so that when one dies it carries some emotional weight.
Outside of my critique I think everything else Bay has put out has been pure win! This is my favorite movie line of all time, and i wouldnt want anyone else except Bay to direct it. Please make a 4th!!!!

No, they're mindless freaks.
Of course, they have damn character, why the hell else would it be called Transformers? Get over the bullshit that you want to see and recognise reality.

I care more about CG graphics, action, and senseless violence then I care about acting, storyline, or scripts. Just give me giant robots blasting each other to pieces for 90 minutes and Im good. I give Michael Bay his props. If he moves on to bigger and better things after this, I wish him well. If his future films flop, well all be right here waiting if he wants to pick up where he left off.
Thank You and Well Said.
Yeah, we as fans (especially myself lately) tend to dis on Hasbro for what they give us toy-wise but they've been doing it for 2 generation now with the Transformers and there are some of us out there who have the skills and money to do the job better. However, there is not a single person out there in the fandom who can do Bays job better than he can and who has the resources to do it on that large a scale, and who in all honesty has a clue as to exactly the full scope of what all he (and his team)does to make these movies a reality for us. There are, admittedly, several amongst the fandom who can surpass Bay in terms of arrogance and ego.
That aside, I do have to say that I have a nagging feeling that this 3rd and final installment (and I do believe it will be Final) is going to leave a lot of us fans in shock by the end of the movie. Just a gut feeling, but don't be expecting some of our most loved Giant F'ing Robots to survive this movie. I have nothing to support this, just a gut feeling that Jazz is about to have some company in the hereafter.

xtsaur wrote:Good stuff. I truly hope everyone is not killed off, and that they leave the door open for a 4th movie. For all those fans crying about rebooting a movie - Get over it fast, because if you are indeed a Transformers fan as you claim to be you need to realize that rebooting this franchise will not happen in any near future. Franchises like this get this kind of attention and fanfare once a lifetime. Sadly when this is over so is the hope of seeing Transformers on the big screen. Embrace what we have and provide Michael Bay with positive feedback so he can give us what we want. He is obviously trying to do so. Obviously he cant please everyone because we all have different expectations.
Well, not that I'm crying for a reboot, but for those that are - I say more power to ya! We as fans have so many Universes to choose from to be a fan of...so that is why we all have different expectations...so, I say, out of anything, it's one of the easiest franchises to reboot! Seriously, four different directors could easily choose (or even makeup) four very different Transformers movies. Plus, that would only lead to new toys for Hasbro, hence furthering or beloved Transformers. For crying out loud look what Spidey and Superman have just gone through - both reboots in a short amount of time (for Hollywood anyway). So I say not only should we cry about another reboot we should write in to Hasbro what are favorite reboot should be and keep on them until one is done in the near future just so WE CAN give our franchise the attention and fanfare it deserves!

Your right about that, two leaders on both sides of the fight, a bigger cast than the past movies (just look at all the characters we have seen so far)and from Bays mouth (I read somewhere) the soldiers are really going to kick butt in this final installment. Get ready to see characters dropped by soldiers with silly one liners. I just hope the twins and Bumblebee get killed off, but they will probably be the only ones to survive.

You know, for all you haters out there that want a reboot, I hope they pick someone like Uwe Boll for a director. You guys would be on your knees at bays door step, begging him to come back.

Personally I think he did a great job with the Transformers universe. To me his words come off like he's barely holding back spoilers, like he's really excited to share what he knows but he can't. I gotta give him credit there, cause I'd have spouted off the entire story the moment I got the script.

Like the Bay Universe, alright. Thats opinion.
But actually saying that you don't care if the movie has no characters or storyline that makes sense...
The movies didn't entertain me for a few reasons. I didn't care for any of the characters at all. Not a single bit, coz it was always clear that Bay was trying to appeal to a wide variety of people, and not just the TF Fans, to the extreme that he hindered the movie. Good example of just the opposite: "Tron"
They're just bad movies. as a MOVIE, they're both bad. Whether you like the action, and the explosions... and the TF designs (coz thats really the only good there is), thats fine. but as a TF fan, I wanted to see a movie where I could get into the characters (would have helped by seeing a lot more screentime of them, but that was CG budget + time + "uhh, I never liked G1, in fact I hate it... so lets just make these robots sound up to date with words like "my bad" and ...well.. all of the twin's dialogue)
Aaaanyway, I pretty much figure this movie is going to be a more action packed version of the others, with only small improvements to character development. The story might just make sense, but completely excluding the past movies in regards to a sensical timeline of actions. Yea, There might not be a reboot for a long time, but Thanks to the fans who loved the CARTOON movie (although the real reason might be that directors are just trying to reboot everything since they're all out of original ideas), there came a live action. You need to stop being satisfied with crap, raise the standards so we can see Transformers enter a realm worthy of being next to Aliens... or AT LEAST Predators, rather than pirates of the carribean.

Actually, i thought Pirates of the Carribean was far better than "Predators". So in that sence, i'm happy with were they stand! .
But as i've said before, i liked the past movies. they weren't perfect, but nothing ever is. The point some of us who like the movies are getting at is no one is "settling" for anything. For some all we want is a fun popcorn flick to laugh at and be entertained. Passing judgment that this is going to be horrible this early on IMO isn't fair.

Its all opinion really, but there could have been one thing to appeal to me in the movies, and if they had done it, I could atleast put the movie on from time to time and get a kick... and that is MORE TRANSFORMERS. You never get to really enjoy the action before, in a blur, its over.... it had me tedious through each movie coz everytime they spliced in needly human parts, i was just going nuts sitting there, being teased.... It was like gettin a strip tease in complete darkness... with your hands tied behind your back... and more so, your not sure if its a good thing and the stripper is hot.. or nasty... or even a guy. Yea, thats the movies for me exactly. haha.

Fair enough. But one thing you have to admit is they did make inprovments fron the first movie to the second. More robots and more screen time. (may not have ben all the sceens you would have liked to see, but it was improved) And i still don't understand the point of everything being a big blur. Many scense were slowed down to show more detail. (forest battle as well as the desert battle) So i still don't get this complaint.
As far as strippers go; Wow, thats a new one. Comparing TF to lab dances. You my frined, need to get out just a little bit more. Ha ha!

Haha, au contraire, I party a little too much, and rarely go to strip clubs... All though for the record, they're much better in Seattle than they are in Van
Yea they slow scenes down, and there was more action in the second. Which is why I will occasionally youtube the forest scene. The end scene sucks though, The Fallen dies so quickly, megatron and starscream get pwned way too easily.. etc. Blah, beating a dead horse. They didn't entertain you, but they entertained alot of people. A billion dollar's worth nearly per film. The negative opinions are in the minority, however vocal they are. I'd go into another discussion at length about it, but I already did that in another thread.

An excellent way of putting it bravo sir.
I'm personally more worried at this point about how the movies are rubbing off on everything else. Heck That's mostly what I worried about from the start. If other parts of the franchise had gone on doing what they were good at I would have been cool with it, but no. Figueroa wants to draw everything "realistically", Mike Costa is being kept on regardless of his s**t writing, Bumblebee is now permanently a muscle car and has been majorly overhauled to fill a void originally filled by the "Hot Rod/Shot" archetype... oh and he'll probably never talk again in any films or on TV. In fact, I'm betting that BB will eventually get an injury in ongoing that will result in the loss of his voice box.

I can assure you this third film, and everyone who was involved, did it only for the $$$. Which is why this last film scares me the most....no one really has anything left to prove, the actors are pretty much done with their set roles and have been paid to say what good things they must. The director is done and over, and can move on to another project of his whim with an even more inflated ego. Really, other then the new blood, there's nothing really pushing this film to break any real new ground (Accept the 3D gimmick, which has already recieved mixed feed back and was decided at last minute by the production studio).
Even the art direction seems to have taken a back seat, with the new villans being old recycled villans for the sake of cannon fodder and any new characters being threatened with line cuts and minimal screen time because there's soooooooooo many plot mechanisims all the characters just cannot recieve their proper development...unless this film runs 3 hours....which I doubt due to both a childs average attention span and Bays.
Yeah, personally, I am up for a reboot.
"There's not going to be a reboot, these movies are too uber sucessful and G1 sucks and blah blah blah blah"
Yeah, your right....I mean they wouldn't reboot a franchise like Spiderman and replace a Director like Sam with a huge cult following and....oh, wait.
No I'm eager for a reboot myself. Just to see what other directors could envision, and what other artist and designers can think of, just to simply see what can be.

I have to agree in terms of the current trend I've noticed of "If you like the movies, you are against G!" or "You're not a true fan" or other equally ridiculous statements. I really liked the movies, although I would change plenty. And I love G1, as I grew up on the cartoon. But I pick and choose what I like. I loved beast wars, didn't much care for Beast Machines. Never enjoyed any of the Japanese G1, and can not stand Beast Wars 2 or Neo. I liked R.I.D, and almost liked Armada, but the Unicron trilogy (armada, energon, and cybertron) left a horrible taste in my mouth. Animated turned out to be a treat, despite the art style, and Prime I dunno about yet. So I think "true fans" can like anything they want.
As for a reboot...do I want it? Yes, because I love fresh new starts and new concepts. But a reboot doesn't mean it will be good...it could end up being entirely kid-friendly, and become more of an obvious cash-cow than Bay's movies. Look at the new DOTM toys. Simplified as hell. Do you really think that hasbro wants another line of complicated bots? They want easy sells. Which means more Bumblebee (the ENTIRE reason I gave up on the movie line of toys - did u see that blue/green version with the lightning bolts?!) and Prime overload. For a new movie I would love more G1 styled bots, but I sure don't want them to look so G1 that they stand out as impossible in every shot, so I kinda want a mix of movie and G1, but not quite how Don has it, not quite that extreme.
Huge long rant but it's been building up since 2007 with the first "not true fans" comment I saw lol. oh and... we need one of these smilies that spins both factions! *plays intermission music*

I have enjoyed the movies to the fullest, even the dreaded ROTF! While the story could have been better, the visuals alone saved the movie. I think this last one coming out will make us look back and think to ourselves, we were more impressed than we were at first. Who knows how long until we get another movie if in fact this is the last movie but man, whatta ride!
Who knows, maybe after the movie is done, there will have to be some new big project right? How about the true honest to God resurrection of G1 in movie form, animated or real life? Anyone with me on that one?

Wow...
Defiantly the dumbest thing posted on this forum. Your so ignorant its not even funny. People like yourself are the reason Bay (or any future director) don't or wouldn't want a thing to do with the franchise. The farther you stay away from the movies the better.
And maybe he hasn't seen a G1 episode. And thats fine. Cause this isn't G1. And you do realize the Hasbro has a large say on what goes on in these movies to right? Of course you do. It just easier to place the blame on Bay. Its not like Hasbro would ever have anything to do with any of the top decisions right? Of course not.

Every stop to think maybe he's speaking of undoing the production problems the studio and writer's strike caused with RotF? The blame for the problems in a movie can't be shoveled onto any one person, no matter who they are.

I'd like to know where you got the idea fans of the film series think G1 sucks. I love both films and G1 equally, as do others. Painting people in broad strokes is never ok.
I have to agree in terms of the current trend I've noticed of "If you like the movies, you are against G!" or "You're not a true fan" or other equally ridiculous statements.
Well, there ya go Cap'in F! Though you were right, it was a broad stroke, being this statement covers a wide range of peoples...non specified cause I really don't have that much time. Though your comments about said subject associates your person with said individuals....hence adding yourself to the collective...."brush stroke" as you noted.
Honestly though any and all statements were to illustrate how foolish bashing an already non existant yet inevitable reboot is, it's coming, very soon, deal with it. This is just how the studios work. They know the franchise is still fresh with life, they know they can market it. They also know Hasbro is MORE then willing to produce yet more toy lines and merch, so like it or not, it's happening. And I'm allllll for it. Like I said I'm very curious as to what new characters and life with be brought about another production and art team. It has lots of potential for people to build upon from whats been laid out in the first film. Only the first film. Muahahahahahahahahaha!

I have my own opinions about a reboot. While not totally necessary, I think it may be inevitable. However, the reason for such is different than what you think. Transformers is a series who's greatest strength is the diversity if it's many alternate settings. I'd like to see the movieverse benefit from other creative directions, mind you not because I hate Bay's version but because different things will keep the movies fresh and interesting.
However, it will build on more than just the first film. People did love RotF, but those who disliked it are far more vocal (and on forums such as here, more numorous). Everyone I know in real life loved it, Transformers fans and non-fans alike. The sooner you come to accept that the better you'll feel.

I think both you and Josh are correct on the reasons for an inevitable reboot. More movies will defiantly expand on an already huge settings it has created, but one would be a fool to think that a financial gain on Hasbro's part wouldn't be one of the driving factors. But from a fan perspective, diversity from the many "universes" worlds or settings, is what makes TF appeal to so many different people.

I actually didn't see ROTF until about a week after it was released due to work. Between that time, i had to listen to all my friends, co-workers, etc. tell me how much they loved the movie. When i saw it in theaters, everyone cheered and clapped at the end. I even over heard the people in front of me say.."Wow, that was cool!"
But alas... Ebert came in and through out his insults (which he did get heat for himself), Though it didn't really seem to matter considering the overall success the movie has achieved. Though people are always going to be more vocal about something they dislike vs. like.
One things for certain though. When ever a reboot does happen, if successfully whether or not Bay is the director, we all will have Bay to thank. (well partially) If it wasn't for Bay's movies, one wouldn't know whether or not "mechtech, Chevy branded "bayformers" would have worked. I think many who aren't fans of the movies are hoping/expecting the reboot to carry the same weight as Christopher Nolan did for the new Batman movies. But for all be know they could get similar treatment the Joel Schumacher gave to Batman & Robin and Batman forever. Personally, I'd like a mix in between the two. Or even a full length movie of the new Prime animated series. OH well. Whenever it happens, whether or not any of us like what we see, we all know we'll be lining up opening weekend.
Posted by Joshua Vallse on February 13th, 2011 @ 1:43pm CST
Oh thats a double edged sword my friend, I know other chaps as well whom didn't care for "Fallen" at all, mainly industry buffs being we've all seen our share for flashy special FX and even done our work on such, hence no mount of layering tons upon tons of FX can really salvage said film. So, just as there's people out there that luv it, which is their right, there are people out there that don't really care for it either, which is our right. And we all know freedom is the right of all sentient beings
However like I said, there was alot done right in this current running adaptation of the franchise, and "Moon" and Bay's "Hard work" will set down if this has been built upon or cast to the wind. Whomever the new director is to helm the next series of films, hopefully they won't discard everything the TF film has brought to the table. I think the most important lesson brought to light, is how far one can take liberty with re-deisgning or re-inventing a character before going to far to where a character, any number of characters, simply aren't "that" same character. But the name tag is slapped on anyways for the sake of marketing. I've had this done to me in other franchises of other characters, and it does come off as insulting...so I know where alot of the TF fans come from when they get all riled up. At the same token however, as a fan of the first film, whomever the new director is....can learn a thing or two about taking a few chances...it's a fine balance. Here's to the future and whatever may come.

There's that much ground to cover (guard the Ark,Patrol Earth,Harvest Energon, get a job as a Protectobot, open a language of the Primes school for TFs,organize sightseing tours to old Cybertron for TFs) that the whole A/bot population doesn't need to be spotted in each film.

I'd like if the sequels to DOTM would be in the same continuity, but still recap the events of the first 3 movies at the beginning. And have something like what you said, with the Cybertronian technology growing on earth.

This is why I want them to stay away from Unicron in the Movieverse for as long as possible-altho more can be done afterwards, Unicron is still a point of no return, the same way that a Reboot, as I will insist, is a lazy way to carry a story on-it may unwrite some things perceived as bad, but it will also eradicate everything written that's good. Reboots should be used as if they were a surgical procedure-only when the symptoms/needs are specific-and a reboot is effectively a full body transplant (such as the Batman Saga, which needed it). Anyone who uses it for anything less, or can't tell a new vision of a story without linking it to the previous using their hard earned diplomas (such as the "real"isation of the Green Goblin in Spiderman or the cloning of Ripley [and the Alien Queen] into Alien:Ressurection) doesn't deserve their diploma.
Minicons, for sake of example, could rock up in trilogy 3, do their thing for its' storyline, pop in and out of trilogies 4 and 5, fade into the background, and then,if desired, combine to abolish Unicron in Trilogy 11. Since vehicles and landscapes won't look the same next decade, why do a reboot next decade? Just pick up the worthy salt, dump the rest, and tell another story that leads into the next decade from now.Is anyone gonna complain or stop buying (anything other than the 6 millionth version of Camaro Bumblebee?)

Ha ha ha! This made me laugh so hard. Michael Bay became famous after Transformers??? Have you been living on the planet Earth for the last 15 years? You never heard of The Rock, Bad Boys, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and The Island? Well I see that you say that you're not a "movie buff", then don't comment someone's movie carrier. It's like if I say: hey guys I don't watch NBA, but who the hell is this Michael Jordan guy and who the hell is he thinking for. He plays like shit in Washington Wizards.
I see that you like CG graphics. Do you know who is one of the owners of one of the biggest CG studios in USA formerly owned by James Cameron? Yep that's Michael Bay and the studio is Digital Domain. I think everybody have heard about them. At least the guys who are interested in CG.
So to sum things up: no Michael Bay didn't became famous after Transformers.

So, I knew Pearl Harbour, Armageddon and The Rock before, I saw Transformers, but it was AFTER the Transformers that I learned who he was.
Also, I had seen Shia LaBeouf in some other films (I, Robot, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle) but I also learned who he was AFTER the Transformers.
So yeah, Bay was famous before Transformers, but some of us learned who he was after Transformers.

The reboot I'm talking about, is a blank slate reboot. Such as Batman Begins was to the previous movies, Such as the new Spiderman Film will be to the previous Sami Rami films, Edward Nortons Hulk was to Ang Lee's.......so on and so forth.
Meaning it's a seperate entity from this established trilogy. Meaning nothing in terms of character or story or plot, history, yadda yadda yadda will be mentioned nor be the foundation for this new seris of Transformers Films planned.
That means a new acting casts...unless Ty pays his way into this series of films as well....New Robot Designs, New Plot Mechanisims, New character Interpretations....NEW NEW NEW. This is what I'm looking forward to.

I have 3 level style defenitions to a reboot:
1-Batman begins as to Batman (total renewal)
2-Alien:resurection as to Alien3 (or A new hope as to Revenge of the Sith)(Bridge from old to new)
3-Startrek nextGen or AVP or Ewok adventure:Caravan of courage (new, without needing the old but also without erasing the old or preventing another, later New to rock up).
Personally,I don't see any type as any less of a reboot than another.

Damn, I just typed a sizable response and it was lots. Blasted machines.
Anywas to summerize 2 and 3 aren't reboots....A franchise or film which doesn't vary from the pervious set material and uses the same characters, story line, designs, so on and so forth already have a definition. It's called a sequel, or a prequel. Number 2 of your breakdown is this definition.
Number three with it's examples really just recaps number 1, in more specific terms the Star Trek Franchise. It was a prequel/reboot...which actually became an alternate reality if you recall Spocks speech to Sylar Spock towards the end....which is what Batman Begins was. As for AVP, thats not a reboot, thats a spinoff and mutation of 2 major franchises. A spinoff series like that is kinda what Mork and Mndy was, Teen Titans, what your Ewok series sounds like..I've never seen that honestly....
But anyways a clean slate reboot really is the only way I can see another film really pan out, unless they want to do a prequel...which may also have some interesting potential but the budget is gonna skyrocket really. Anways I have to bolt, but I shall return.

Oh, I agree with you absolutely, Joshua, don't get me wrong: I only responded in regards to the statement that you're getting mixed signals about the reboot, so I wanted to explain that I'm coming in from an angle using a definition that's purely mine-to extract my own mixed signals from the group discussion and leave you with what all the others are saying-clear it up from my end, basically.
The Ewok series was pretty nice, you'd enjoy it if you liked Willow, tho it's a bit of a kiddie movie now.As for the Star Trek movies,I'll read one review and then watch them if I catch one on the telly, but I'm not a follower, tho I understand your explanation above.
Overall, you're pretty informative on movie stuff. Your insight into Shockwaves' mandibles blew me away-I never would have considered that.

It's all good through bro, and I understand you completely. Mind you when I say clean slate reboot, I'm not suggesting everything should go either. This film did do alot to pave a whole new era in the Giant Robot genre, prior to Transformers I think the only halfway descent live action giant robot movies were Robot Cop, Robot Jox, and a foreign film titled "The Returner" which had a quick transforming alien jet....pretty great stuff.
Yeah thats one of my fears with Shockwave....I just brought it up because I know how animators think, I used to be one during my own college years, we trained with 3D Max and Maya, and I know how difficult it can be to convey emotion without any type of face. It has to be done with body language...however seeing they gave Shockwave mandibles...I fear they only gave him mandibles just for this purpose....
But we will have to wait and see. Anyways onward to the next thread ha ha ha
