So you had the seekers first and enjoyed them for over a year before Takara gave everyone else a chance to enjoy them ?
Ever checked the ebay prices on Dreadwind and Bugbite ? I paid $300 and $160 and the prices haven't gone down. You got your moneys worth.

For the record, the "top secret" guy is NOT Stepper. I can't launch the gallery yet but hopefully next Thursday or the following Thursday I can.

I was floored when I saw what Bug Bite was going for. couldn't part with mine, but was awful tempted to. And Dreadwing, what's got his price so high? Are there that many fans of him?

I'd prefer if they gave him red optics and a silver face.
The original toy was bland looking. You'd expect an expensive update to look better

Botcon Dreadwind went up when the Renderform add on set became available for TRU Darkwing. Everybody wants the pair. Mastershooter Collectibles also did a very limited run of targetmasters for them in the colors of the G1 Powermaster figures.

Botcon has the worst marketing strategy ever. They should just reveal everything including the convention exclusives the day before registration goes live. They should be like "this is what we got, come n get it". My favorite reveal will be when the exclusives start showing up on Taobao a month before the convention.

I haven't seen it myself, but I've seen TFWiki refer to the figure as Afterbreaker on Twitter and apparently the April/May club mag does as well. Possible the name Afterburner was unavailable and had to be renamed. Still better than some of replacement names we've seen recently.

The real problem is the fandom actually acknowledges these silly name changes done for legal reasons.
If John Smith in New York cant sue Mrs. Smith in Florida for naming her newborn son John, what makes fictional characters names any different ? As silly as it sounds, I can legally name my child "Afterburner".
It's a freakin word ! Unless another company has already produced a transformable robot toy named "Afterburner" there should be no basis for a lawsuit. Funpub shouldn't be scared of "Afterburner Tampons" or "Afterburner Personal Lubricant" or whoever was the last company to print the word "Afterburner" on a cardboard box.

Trademarks work a bit differently than that. Put short, the fact they changed his name means that:
a.) another toy company has gotten hold of the name, thus are the only ones allowed to use it. Doesn't matter what kind of toy, it's still in the same category as Transformers is. Your examples would actually be perfectly legal as they fall in different categories, but that may eventually lead to scenario b.
b.) being a common word in every day use (it's an engine component), the word may have become "generic", meaning it has no more distinguishable market value. Such words can no longer be trademarked and some have fallen victim to it.
On the flipside, it could simply be Hasbro's desire to keep "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" names separate, since this is still a G.I. Joe-based set. That's supposedly the main reason why Gen. Junkyard was renamed "Junkheap", as there's a "Junkyard" in G.I. Joe. and the name is more closely associated with that line.

The club doesn't seem to be helping that out. I finally got my magazine in the mail and the ad for the set doesn't even name Afterbreaker. It simply says "Marissa Fairborn 4" figure comes with motorcycle, weapon, and jetpack on a blister card with character file card". Poor Afterbreaker has been downgraded to simply being an unnamed motorcycle rather than a character.

Legit thanks for the assurances. But still, just nervous because I've never bought anything from the Club. So with my lukc I'd screw something up. And you never know if it'll sell out or not.
I so hope Spike, Sparkplug, Chip and Carly get made, too. They SO deserve some love.

A sort-of homage to movie 3 Megatron has no use in my collection.
I already have a movie-accurate voyager version of that character, and lots of versions of CHUG Megatron to choose from.
While the deco itself looks very nice, I would have no place to display this figure.
I'm certainly not interested in paying exclusive prices for it.

This Megatron could work as another
character in a classics collection besides Megatron?
Sure, he is a very nice redeco of the Silas Breakdown
mold, but seriously... Megatron??
The boxset itself was very nice with Packrat and
BattleTrap... Stepper was... Meh... and The Hobo without
a shotgun... It's a very weird Boxset...
I hope the last figure in the Boxset would be
a retool of windblade... Lyzack, perhaps?
Saludos

Amelie wrote:Thinking about it more - Megatron is an excellent Botcon figure - a limited edition recolour of a mold that was never even released in the 'States. It really doesn't get much more exclusive than that, save for actually doing an entirely new figure.
Technically, you are right. But in the age of internet retail, saying this mold never got a US release is a bit of an overstatement. Anybody in the US who wanted this mold just bought the Takara version online. Additionally, nothing about Botcon "exclusives" are actually exclusive to Botcon. Chinese retailers were selling "Attendee Only" Flamewar figures that never made it to Botcon last year. The word "exclusive" has become one big joke. But I have no issues with that because the downfall of true "exclusives" has helped make this hobby grow bigger, stronger, and more popular than ever.

I thought the "Silas version" of this mold consisted of a new head and a black paintjob ? What "Silas piece" are you talking about ?

It's Breakdown proper, with Silas Breakdown's grill. The club stated they wanted to save the Silas aspect of Silas breakdown for a future G.I joe themed exclusive.
