I love it
I can honestly see it displaying well with other series. It'll stand out, but not in a bad way.

Hehe, but whats that black design on him? Looks odd, if thats on the store release I'll be saying no...
Looks ok otherwise, don't like the axe attached to the alt mode though
Posted by Counterpunch on January 9th, 2008 @ 1:20pm CST
Bulkhead looks good! They should get Toon Convoy out of those pictures. He's messing up my view of Bulkhead.

so cool. The huge axe just sitting there is kind of odd, as are the black swirly paint apps there. But he looks really cool. One of the very few animated figs i might pick up.

small problem with your logic. the optimus is the same size as the bulkhead, which is a voyager fig. theyve simpley redone the axe, since it seems to nor transform into a back peice of the truck mode anymore

no no, they are both the Voyager
Yes the gray figure is the voyager prototype, but in those pics the colored figure is the Voyager also.
for comparison:
Deluxe Prime:
Voyager Prime:
notice the different chests, and the face mask etc...
Obviously they look similar but in fact the pictures are of Voyager prime not deluxe.

I hope that black paint app aint on the final version but 2 me.....it look like a bigger version of it deluxe counterpart.
I diggin his truck mode cause it kindin got a low rider, hot rod feel 2 it but I still more curious about how his trailer will look like tho....
Aslo.....those r the best pictures of Bulkhead i eva saw.....and makin me now want him as well

This looks awesome, but what happened to the rest of his altmode?

no,no,no, overcracker
the grey one is a totally different sculpt than the battle damaged figure, the grey one is the voyager sized toy, the battle damaged toy is delux as can be seen by his tiny size compared to bulkhead. the grey figure has many differences, look at his axe on his back, the extra parts on the side of teh lower leg, the big horns on his head.

nope, my logic is fine in this case, the voyager prime stands about 8 inches tall, the little earth prime is a delux, hes about as tall as BB. if im wrong on this call me later when the toys are out, but im pretty sure theres 2 delux primes:the cybertron mode and this battle damaged mode (who is to be in a preview 2 pack with battke damage megs??) then theres the big ass axed and cannon voyager prime. think about it, if thats a voyager prime next to bulk head hes a VERY tiny voyager figure, think of the complaining over bulkheads small size. Th ebattle damage prime is a delux. A pity hasbro cant actually release some info on whats to be available to avoid all our speculations!!
heres the voyager prime.

Is it just me, or does Prime's chest look really low in relation to his head/arms? No matter- want!

I don't like how the nose of the truck is all pointy and strange-looking. That being said, this figure looks strange enough to be interesting.

A voyager prime would be bigger than this, i think.
Why does he have the dark symbiote-ish stains on him?
I love the head. it's JUST PRIME.
This axe is huge indeed. but... it doesn't transform. Booey. ;c

Gotta start saving now, as there is yet to be an Aniamted figure I don't want!

spacemonkeymafia wrote:"Whats the black stuff?" "Whats the black stuff?".......Did you ever think it might be the prototype markings from hasbro......because last I heard these Figs werent coming out till this summer.
Why would they use that as a prototype, why not just tampograph (right word?) "PROTOTYPE" onto the side like they always do?
Oh, and THIS IS VOYAGAAAAAAAA
Hehe, sorry, couldn't resist.
Anyway, yes, this is the voyager. They always look bigger in alt mode. Think about movie Blackout, not much size difference between him & Barricade in robot mode. This is the voyager one, the prototype was probably scrapped for some reason, and they decided to heavily mod the idea into what we have here.
This is not, i repeat not, a deluxe. ^^

After close examination of the pictures, I gotta say microclone, I think you are indeed correct.
Although the fists in this one look like they fold into the forearms, while the deluxe version has immovable fists.
It seems its just a heavily modified Deluxe Prime mold.
While its certainly different to the Axe wielding Deluxe version we had seen, I think the basic mold is that of the deluxe.
I see 2 reasons:
1. They scrapped the Voyager model, and then decided to modify the deluxe version to look like the voyager. They would have to either add dare i say it... A Trailer... to warrant the Voyager Price point, even if the actual robot is deluxe sized.
OR
2. This is going to be an additional Deluxe release, made to look like the voyager version.
And the real voyager version still remains to be seen.
tformers.com has some pics of a somewhat colored Prototype of the Voyager, ands yes the mold does indeed look different.

Hmm weird to say the least.

Those 'prototype' markings are usually nothing more than smears of paint. These are much more intricate.

I sorta dig this new cartoonish battle-damage, it barely looks like cracks but they do look cool. better than burns and crap.

That will make sense the grey Prime dont look like its cartoon counterpart but the color one dont look like it either but i like is truck mode better tho
I said make the incomplete grey version into Nemesis Prime or something so it want be a repaint 4 once.
I still wish somebody get their hands on a trailer so i can see

colored Prime = DELUXE VARIANT
prototype Prime = VOYAGER (or maybe LC?) VARIANT
sticking with these until further word comes out. i might be wrong...but i seriously doubt it.
Posted by Liege Evilmus on January 9th, 2008 @ 7:04pm CST
Also, something that I noticed about this Prime, I noticed he doesn't have a trailer yet on the show, could one hope for a possible variety of alt mode back attachments.
I'd buy this figure just to suport that idea.

I can't tell for sure if this is a retool of the deluxe or the voyager, but I'm leaning towards the voyager. Either way it's substantially different from both. It's a good scale with Bulkhead, any bigger would be a little too big. Perhaps voyagers will be smaller this time around.
A very nice figure overall. I hope they loose the battle damage, but overall I prefer it to the other animated Primes.

I agree with Bumblethumper. I don't think this is THE voyager Optimus, but I do think it is *A* voyager Optimus. I think this will be "Battle Damage Voyager Optimus". Maybe part of the "battle damage" will be the loss of the "stuff" that sits on the back of voyager Optimus' legs in truck mode (trailer? gun?).
I like this, but I don't know if I'm ready to start hearing about "repaints" in the Animated line, since first wave toys are still so far away.
Posted by microclone on January 9th, 2008 @ 8:39pm CST
the grey toy is earth mode voyager size, hes about 8 inches tall, has a big axe and gun which combine to form his 'trailer'.
the coloured up 'split windscreen' damage prime is a delux figure and is in the upcoming 2 pack. It is NOT voyager size, thats easy enough to see from the shots with bulkhead, hes about BB size just like cybertron prime. This version does match the current animation model so i wonder if the differences in the voyager figure are reflected later in the animation?

except for maybe Skywarp.
I like the figure. It's not too big compared to Bulkhead, but I still kinda prefer the deluxe. The voyagers in this line all look like big deluxes anyway.

Dr. Heavy B wrote:whats with the black crap all over him??
I second that. Seems to me to be totally unnecessary and only mucks him up. They don't look like typical prototype markings. I'd rather have him without the black crap.
Posted by kirbenvost on January 9th, 2008 @ 9:29pm CST
Anyway, I really hope this isn't THE Voyager Prime, because I liked the Proto a lot more. I'm hoping this is an additional mold as well. I like his alt mode, but the bot mode just doesn't look as nice as the proto pics.

second this assumption. also (from another thread), Voyager-class size is determined by the volume of plastic it contains, not its height. check out TFTM Blackout, voyager-sized alt mode, puny robot mode (for a voyager).

Voyager Bulkhead and deluxe Optimus are about the same size.
As is the case with this new Optimus variant:
But there's some weird things going on with the scale.
Voyager Megatron is just a little taller:
...yet is dwarfed by deluxe Lockdown:
My guess is voyager Optimus won't be taller than Voyager Megs.
Another (odd)possibility is that Voyager Prime is roughly the same basic height as deluxe Prime. The main size difference being in the bulk of the fire truck/trailer assembly, which, as can be seen in the prototype, does not increase the height of the figure:
If you compare the new Optimus with the Cybertronian deluxe, there does seem to be a fair bit more bulk in the chest and shoulders. It's also worth noting that the axe is differernt and certainly appears to be bigger. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Posted by Jazzz on January 10th, 2008 @ 3:34am CST
They do that alot
Voyager Movie Prime
Deluxe Armada Prime(and its many retools/repaints)
Deluxe Energon Prime
etc.
Deluxe Animated Prime

this is a different earth mode prime.
He has wheels in his shoulders.
arms are different
axe isn't as cool
no kibble on legs and back
