That's just flipping AWESOME. I love the new takes on the old G1 characters. Absolutely fantastic.

Maybe having a bit more creative openness on the programmers' end will get rid of the crappy plots the previous TF games have had too.

These designs are awesome. IDW's Transformers Ongoing's designs? Not so much.

Yes. I totally agree. When I saw that sweet pic of Megs on the home page, I got more excited than I have in recent memory.

To: the fans
- sorry things haven't been going the way you'd hoped. Hope this helps!
From: the Transformers you know and love
Like c'mon! A G1 War Within styled game?! Even my wild imagination wouldn't have the audacity to wish for something so unlikely! But here we are.
A lot of you are worried about quality (and rightly so). I think it's gonna be a great game! Here's why. You can't really compare this to the movie games because it isn't one. Movie games have a notorious reputation for being terrible. This is because movies and video games are constructed in ways very different from each other. Movies are made quickly and can change things on the fly leaving the video game tie-in rushed and unable to keep up. They're playable but lack a lot of polish and fine tuning. This 'War for Cybertron' isn't tied to anything current so it'll likely receive due artistic attention.
I'm super excited about this game and hope it cheers everyone up!

But if the gameplay rocks, thats all that really matters.

Dead Metal wrote:Is it me or does it look as if Prime and Megatron are heavily based on their Animated Cybertron- mode designs just in a more movieish ecstatic?
I think Megatron looks more of a mix of Classics Megatron and TFA Megatron. The Optimus Prime in the game only has one big feature that reminds me of the TFA Cybertron form, which is the way the wheels are placed in the shoulders.
I'm looking forward to more news about the game.

It's not WWI-based. It's based on battles before the TFs came to Earth.

If it plays half as well as ROTF did, then I'll be happy. I would really like it to play like Borderlands mind you, or even something like brutal legend. But, I'll get really excited when the trailer comes out.
I wonder if anything will be shown at the Spike TV Video Game Awards?
Posted by Menbailee on December 10th, 2009 @ 12:13am CST
You mean we'll get a Transformers game that doesn't suck? The Armada game played fairly well but didn't feature many characters. TF: Tataki included a whole array of G1 characters and then fell short on gameplay. The visual design's amazing on this. I'd enjoy seeing an earth segment, but I can forgo it in favor of solidly built play value. Hopefully we'll have a sense of desperation while playing as Autobots and of domination while playing as Decepticons. It's not an even match!
Posted by Scatterlung on December 10th, 2009 @ 6:02am CST
The Decepticon campaign is supposed to focus on Megatron's rise to power, and the Autobot one will be dealing with the Decepticon threat as renegades or some such and the evacuation of Cybertron. So we're being given a real opportunity to immerse ourselves in a moment of Cybertronian history rarely seen outside of the comics!
It also shows that, hopefully, the Activision guys have really put some thought and feeling into this. Giant robots duking it out can have emotions too. In fact, that's what separates Transformers from a lot of other giant-mech franchises.
I'm also very impressed and excited to hear that you will play as part of a team instead of completely solo. Thus far, I think only Revenge Of The Fallen let you play alongside any team mates, and only for about one mission in either faction (as Ratchet helping Ironhide and Longhaul helping Grindor), and that really use to irritate me. Transformers has always been about factions and teams and the issues when those contrasting personalities battle it out within a group and it has never been realised in a game, until now. Hopefully there'll be a lot of interesting banter between team-mates during play. And hopefully they'll be intelligent and responsive unlike the teams in Tatakai.
Not sure what I think of the designs. I don't like them because of the same argument used for the Bay-formers - You can't really distinguish what they turn into. There aren't any wheels or doors or vehicle machinery in general, but this is rightly so, as they are Cybertronian vehicles. However it is just a small aspect I think we got used to over the last twenty-something years and were reluctant to let go when the movies rolled around. On the other hand, they are recognisable as our favourite robots and that's enough for me.
What I'm looking forward to most though is, of course, the ending. Will it show them blasting off for Earth? When Prime evacuates the planet, they're going to have to go somewhere. And if so... Sequel?
Bring on the trailer!

Megatron Wolf wrote:After seeing these new pics i want to preorder now. Finally the TF ive always wanted. Completely based on cybertron. Megatron looks awesome. Finally no more damn flying vehicle alt. Hes a tank once again like he should be. Im liking the new look, its different but still looks like Transformers. I really hope theres going to be toys for this. I say they should just get the EA guys to make the next movie. They seem to know what we want. Cant wait to see more.
Or mabey this game is a setup for the new Tf series1!!??? (GASP)

Second I straight up punked those scanned images from the good folks over at the allspark. Yeah them.
This last one might give us a good idea what that bizarre resin prototype was from a while back. Also thanks to one of the chaps at Allspark for mocking that up and letting me teef it.
I will be all over the internet like Oprah on a BLT tonight to make sure Seibertron sees the trailer FIRST, I promise you that.

I like how you can see design cues from past incarnations.
BTW, next time you quote someone with a ton of pictures, make sure you delete all the pictures first or we end up with a thread full of the same pictures.

Ungie wrote:I can tell this is already WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY better than the armada, and the TFTM game. And G1 too! This is going good.
Armada & TF ROTF are the best TF games to date, and I don't see a TF game being better then that. The first G1 game had very bad gameplay, and the graphics were ou of date, but it had a great G1 atmosphere, play as Rodimus Prime, Arcee, battle Predaking etc. Hopefully there will be toys, still hoping for Movie 1 Shockwave from the first game.
Still, I'm going to have a great time playing it, even if it is bad. There are tons of good games nowadays but there are hardly TF games.
Not being a movie or series tie-in, the game developers hopefully will have a good amount of time to build and pollish.
Great times ahead!!!

But, since we don't know anything about the gameplay, I must reserve my excitement. I wonder if it's gonna have an online community? I don't have a 360 or PS3, but this will actually give me a good reason. It'll be nice to actually communicate with someone outside of school for once

I can see why Bay and the Movie people didn't care much about the Fandom's opinion when they went with their designs for the movie. Or, when they decided that the Beast Wars should be fought by Maximals and Predacons. Or, when IDW Greenlighted Don's designs for the Ongoing comic(which are, for lack of a better term, "Ultra Gear"). As a fandom, we are, truely, a bunch of whining babies to the Production teams. Babies have no idea what they want, they just know they want Something. So, the Heads of these production companies get their people together with Hasbro, Hasbro appoints someone who loves the Transformers brand and that they can trust to helm the project, and they all try to show us something different. These designs are just as radically different as Don's work on the ongoing comic. But strangely, strange even to this Seibertronian, There's no Glitching and Moaning. There's no vicious, flailing, temper-tantrum attacks on the designs, or psychological cross-sections about what an Opinion is, or dissertations about the elusively SUBJECTIVE nature of "what's good" and "what's bad" this time around.
<*Sigh*>
Poor Don. Poor US(Transformers fans). Oh well. Hasbro is laughing about this right now, and the Transformers brand will live on and continue to evolve. Yay.( )
