This brand new four-issue miniseries is written by David Mariotte, the co-author of 2020’s hit Transformers vs. The Terminator miniseries; illustrated by Jack Lawrence, the acclaimed artist of the fan-favorite Transformers: Lost Light series; and colored by Candice Han of last year’s Transformers / Back to the Future crossover.
The Tread & Circuits storyline provides a glimpse of life on distant colony worlds, far from the Cybertron war, where good entertainment is hard to find! Fortunately, there’s always the Wreckers, a fearless team of daredevils who broadcast death-defying stunts and action… all as a cover for undercover operations! When the security of the Speedia 500—a literal race for governmental control of a whole world—is threatened, the Wreckers have a new challenge: they must save the most widely-broadcasted event in the galaxy, without getting exposed!
“The Wreckers are an idea that comes from the comics—a team of Autobots willing to do what other Autobots wouldn't, and look cool as heck while doing it," says Mariotte. "Every iteration has been a bit different, and with Jack and Candice on art, this one's going to be a gorgeous new take on who the Wreckers are and how they do what they do best.”
“I was collecting the UK Transformers comic when the first Wreckers story was published in 1986, and it’s so awesome to actually contribute to their legend,” says Lawrence. “The Wreckers have always felt like a pulp adventure team, and I'm excited to bring some of that feeling to these pages.”
“We’re really excited to bring the Wreckers into the IDW Transformers universe. We hope that fans will enjoy taking a break from the war on Cybertron to experience a new mini with spying, racing, wrecking, ruling, and many other fun things,” says editor Riley Farmer.
Transformers: Wreckers—Tread & Circuits #1 will be available with multiple cover variants by a trio of superb Transformers comic artists: Cover A by series artist Jack Lawrence, Cover B by Anna Malkova, and a Retailer Incentive edition featuring art by Nick Roche.

So, I can see Thunderclash, Ricochet, Hot Shot Energon Ironhide (?), Aileron, possibly Reboost on the second cover and someone G2 in yellow. That line up certainly doesn't scream "Wrecker".

Yellow one is Circuit, a European market repaint of Action Master Axer, that's him again on the second cover on the left in his Action Master armor. And you were right the first time, that's Hot Shot in his Selects body based on the Cybertron Defense form from Cybertron.

Thanks. When I saw it, I immediately thought Hot Shot. Then I double checked on the Wiki, which pointed to Ironhide. Discounting the newer figure.
Circuit, eh? For a minute I thought Reboost was getting his first media push.

Minerva is also present as a 6th member on the covers, although she doesn't appear to be basejumping with the rest of them, and she almost looks like she could possibly be based on a design we haven't seen yet, considering there's a suspicious-looking tab on her back kibble and leakers have said there's a new Nightbeat coming next year...

Because nothing says "pulp adventure team" like an overt Black Ops kill squad? Did he understand what he read or just collect them for the pictures...?

That's your pitch to the fans for a Wreckers comic?! FFS

Hard to tell without seeing her full body, but I think they based her design in part on Power of the Primes Punch's transformation given that they both have the same unique shoulder kibble.

The Wreckers are still an elite, special team, and while seeing some of the original line up somewhere (unless I missed them) would be nice, I like the change. Allows something we know to evolve while still seeming close enough to what it originally was that it isn't something completely new. Which is how reboots should behave.
I completely agree. Most of IDW2019 bores the hell out of me, so I'll take a more fun story, especially considering the Cybertron reference of sending Hot Shot to Velocitron. And even if this is a new take on the Wreckers, this is set around the beginning of the war, there's time for them to become the more tragic, violent Wreckers we know and love.

how in the name of god do you confuse "the dirty dozen" with "days of thunder "?
its like IDW is going out of its way to get things wrong.

Out in the Cybertronian colonies, good entertainment is hard to find. Fortunately, there's always the Wreckers-brave Cybertronians broadcasting death-defying stunts and action-all as a cover for undercover operations! When the only event bigger than a new Wreckers broadcast, the Speedia 500, a race for governmental control of a whole world, is threatened, the Wreckers have a new mission: Save the most viewed race in the galaxy... without getting caught. Wreck & Rule!

Man I needed this. After the IDW Transformers reboot and the new Beast Wars comic, both of which I found uninspiring for different reasons, this comic really fills a void for fun and well done Transformers comics.
This comic has everything I'd want in a Transformers comic; great art with fully realized backgrounds, likeable characters, quick pacing, world building, ramps, callbacks to Transformers lore, good guys being heroic and villains being bad. Too much to ask? Maybe, but hey I got it all with this comic.

We'll start with this story, the writer cuts right to the chase with the delicious villainy at hand. Nuance can be great but I also like when the bad guys are just plain villains. The franchise was built on a very black and white Saturday morning cartoon ideology and I find the comics often excel when contrasting the villains and the heroes. And hey if you want some nuance, well there is a goal to the villains, and one could say it's a noble one, maybe. But their methods make it pretty easy to root against them. Still, their manifesto is another clever way to include some world building of the political dynamics of this world which is much more exciting in concept and execution than this sentence I just wrote. And I love the characters chosen as the villains too.
Both the heroes and villains are characters that are not often spotlighted but there will definitely be a familiarity to the grotesque looking villains. They are from the late era of G1 which included a bunch of wild concepts. And these toys concepts are woven into the story and world building like with Circuit being an action master and how much of an outsider that makes him on a planet where speed is key. This just makes me want to have a G1 Circuit toy (or Axalon, or both).
And speaking of wanting toys, anyone who chose to get that Seige Hound redeco of Hotshot will love this comic. The alt mode looks great, drawn by Jack Lawrence, as is everything that man touches in this issue. He is definitely giving it all he has with this miniseries, with lots of detail on the bots, varying facial expressions to convey their mood and developed backgrounds. The art is well complimented by Candice Han's colours, which are especially on point in the scene revealing the villains.
This is a fun comic any Transformers fan can enjoy, with vibrant detailed art and story that wastes no time. And hardcore fans will really dig the callbacks and getting some fiction related to very niche characters. Looking forward to issue 2!

In terms of cast, the cast was good. Lots of guys that don't get a lot of fiction, and there was some good chemistry with the different cast members. I enjoyed circuit a good bit, even if we didn't get too much of him. His death seemed very random, and kinda really annoyed me.
Thunderclash was good. Aileron kinda annoyed me. Hot Shot and Ricochet were a wonderful pairing and were probably my favorites from the book. Minerva was also good, although I am sad that this universe will essentially end with her in eternal sleep.
Mayhem was suitably fun, and I enjoyed pretenders getting a spotlight.
Overall, it wasn't bad. It wasn't spectacular, I think the dialogue and some story beats weren't that good, but it was better than neutral.
