Included in the Q&A session was a question regarding any future releases of Droid characters in the Star Wars transformers line:
2. Any chance of seeing Droid based Star Wars Transformers, like an R2-D2 or C-3PO that convert into something?
Answer: It's a matter of size, character expression, and natural fit between the modes. First, R2-D2 and C-3PO are already robots (well, droids). Generally, Star Wars Transformers make sense in the film context with their character tying into vehicles with which they are associated and there aren't any good ties with the droids and vehicles that are compelling (other than perhaps R2-D2 and a Starfighter). In addition, while R2-D2 would be our first choice, a robot mode for him have to change his silhouette significantly and would not really deliver on R2 that we know and love. That's why the humanoid characters work the best.

Probably it's for the best that they're not turned into vehicles.
What would they turn into anyways?

Even though they have the ships dead on, it's still an awkward line.

All in all I give Hasbro credit for trying to combine the two...naturally anything to make a dollar, but they do sort of lend to each other. I've said many times that they nail the vehicle modes: they HAVE to...as bad as TF fans are about the designs, Star Wars fans are a billion times worse. If they didn't get the vehicle mode perfect, SW fans wouldn't have bought the toys. With Transformers- with the exception of the Alternators line to an extent- Hasbro has some play with what the vehicle modes look like. I think that's why the movie figures couldn't be dead on: Hasbro could have gotten the bot modes but there's no way with current toy tech to get those bots into a vehicle mode even close to what they were in the movie. In a way the SWTF and TFM '07 toys were similar.

It would have been cool to have the SW vehicles turn into TF characters.
X-wings into Bluestreak, Smokescreen & prowl. A-Wings into the Lambros. Prime into the Falcon. Etc etc
Seekers as Imperial Shuttles. Rumble & Frenzy as TIEs. Megatron as a star destroyer!
All in all I liked a few of the SW TFs and there were a few more I didn't. The Turbo Tank is bada$$.

My thoughts exactly. Of course you need a Unicron who doesn't turn into a planet but a "moon".
