The UK's Daily Mail reports that a man was held from boarding a plane at London's Heathrow Airport because he was wearing a shirt which depicted Autobot Leader Optimus Prime holding a gun.
Taken from the Daily Mail:
Brad Jayakody, 30, from London, said he was stopped from passing through security at Heathrow's Terminal 5 after his Transformers T-shirt was deemed 'offensive.'
Mr Jayakody said the first guard started joking with him about the Transformers character depicted on his French Connection T-shirt.
'"Then he explains that since Megatron is holding a gun, I'm not allowed to fly,' he said.
Now obviously this guy is innocent. For one, he can't even recognize Optimus Prime on his own shirt. And secondly, its a TSHIRT with a TRANSFORMER on it!
Before you Americans poke fun, get a load of this one.
BBC News reports that a woman was denied entry into Los Angeles, CA's LAX Airport for having a GI Joe Figure in her carry on baggage.
Taken from BBC News:
A doll caused a security alert at an American airport because its two-inch plastic gun was considered a dangerous weapon.
Judy Powell, 55, from Walton on the Hill, Surrey, bought the GI Joe toy in Las Vegas and packed it in her hand luggage.
But security staff at Los Angeles International Airport refused to let Mrs Powell on board the plane with the replica rifle.
A Real American Death Threat?
Mrs Powell said: "I was simply stunned when I realised they were serious.
"Security examined the toy as if it was going to shoot them and looked at the rifle.
"I was really angry to start with because of the absurdity of the situation.
"But then I saw the funny side of it and thought this was simple lunacy."
Lunacy, Mrs. Powell, does not begin to explain it.
So let this be a lesson to all you Seibertronian's out there, before you board a plane think first "What would the TSA do?"

I would like to see someone take over a plane with a 2 inch plastic gun or a drawing. what are they gonna do with it? stick it in the pilot's eye, or make them choke on it?
with this level of paranoia, the terrorists won, and they won long ago.
BAH.

I rolled my eyes when my husband told me to put them in checked luggage! I had two big sandwich bags, one full of Joes, the other had weapons and stands. I also found G1 Sludge at a thriftstore in WA. So I put all of the above in checked luggage. I'm glad I did!

I once flew into Orlando from Heathrow with a friend and he was wearing a T shirt with a picture of Starsky & Hutch and the words "Useless American Tw**s" printed beneath. I was sure he would be stopped in the UK and if he got that far pounced on by the US officials but nothing happened. I would have thought that would be far more offensive than Optimus Prime.

Guess I better pack an extra shirt in my carry-on bag next time...just in case *sigh*.

Zeds wrote:Let me get this straight. They have issues with an action figure and a T-shirt and yet they allow people to carry 3 packs of matches on board to allow smokers to puff up as soon as they land. Who are the morons that makes this crap up!
the world has gone CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

Willing to bet whoever knocked the article up at the Mail asked the office at large 'Hey, who's the Transformer with a gun for an arm' and got the response of Megatron.

I gotta be honest with you man, I don't think anyone really even considered that. Just the fact that he's wearing a shirt of a Transformer can be found offensive is dumbfounding.

I have seen plenty of t-shirts with really offensive and disgusting designs and I've not seen them addressed on any news broadcast or newspaper so far. In addition, what's so FREAKING offensive about OP holding a gun? Was the guy who complained some sort of anti-gun peace-lover who sees guns as blasphemies towards God and peace?
But the GIJ figure incident is not upsetting as the previous case is, it is just
PLAIN STUPID! >_<
I doubt that 2 inch plastic guns could cause severe damage to anybody on board, besides a stomach-ache because of the laughter attack they will have if somebody is stupid enough to pull that out and try to hi-jack a damned plane! If we were talking about a G1 or MP Megatron, the story would be other. I wonder if the guy believes that figure is actually a reject from the "Small Soldiers" movie.
Sorry if my comments sound cruel and insensitive (regarding airplane security) but I am simply UPSET beyond your wildest imagination with these two incidents. I believe they are taking things too SLAGGING far and are overreacting. Well, guess I am overreacting too, but you won't see this on your local afternoon/evening news broadcast for sure.

It irritates me how on top of jabbing The US members are even when the story starts so far away from here.
It kills me that 3 months ago I got on a plain with an Armada LaserBeak in gun mode for my nephew, a bottle of "Black Death" wine for my Brother, and a 4ft chain doubled over and wrapped around my wallet all crammed in my laptop bag and I got ushered right through
However in the end I feel very secure that major operations such as these are left to the skilled and experienced hands of men and women like this

Well, some of us support snakes on a plane...I said, "Get that Motherf---in movie off my motherf--in TV set!" Then again, if they didn't support Cobra PETA would probably sue for animal cruelty.
Seriously.
They would.
An abnormally large number of PETA members work for the TSA.
But, hey, don't want a Joe figure with his 2 inch gun and .0000000045 caliber ammunition onboard.

On the other, maybe they saw that episode where CC had a bunch of troops shrunken down to doll size and mailed in present boxes to world officials. If so, good job!

Poor dude cannot board a plane because he has a fictional robot carrying a fictional weapon on his shirt, yet I can mistakenly get a knife through security not once BUT TWICE on a flight going from St Louis Missouri to Phoenix Arizona and back again with not so much as a peep...and to compound my issue, I also had a forgotten lighter in one of the side pockets of my purse that also went unnoticed through the flaming hoops of security in American airports!
The scene from Airplane with the metal detectors comes to mind on this article...and so does a ridiculous chuckle!

Gees if I was working as security at a airport and saw this guy wearing the tee I'd complement him on having a cool tee. When I wear any of my TF tees I get thumbs up or "cool tee" from people.
Better be careful if I take one of my MLP's in my carry on bag she might be carrying a bomb :p.
