Optimus Prime Voice Changer Variant Found!

Thank you! I was close to buy one of them today, it could have been the unreal voice

I think all I saw today were the KO voices... I played it and asked PQP does this sound anything like Cullen to you? It didn't.

Definetly gotta take care when buying one then.

The inside of the Vader Helmet is HUGE. I didn't think it would ever fit, but it did.

The Prime Helmet should fit just as good.

I certainly wouldn't call it a knockoff. Both are straight from Hasbro. Just one uses a different voice. What probably happened is they hadn't signed Cullen yet so they decided to just make the helmet with the Janitors voice. Then when Cullen did sign on they figured they might as well use Primes real voice and put new recordings on the chips. They certainly wouldn't recall a perfectly good product just because it's someone elses voice.

So the first helmet had a knock off VOICE, but it was not a knock off PRODUCT. Gotcha, Watchman!

Nightwatcher, you are 100% right. Most of these toys were probably produced months ago - if you listen, most of the toys which feature Optimus talking (the communicator, the cyber stomper, etc) have a fake Cullen voice which is laughably bad (like the 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Prime).

But both helments are legit and hasbro-produced.

You guys know that's Gary Chalk's voice right? It sucks, but that's who it is. Either that or it's 3 versions.

I just went to Wal-Mart and exchanged my KO voice one, thank goodness they had both versions. I never would have known if it wasn't for this website!

I've always been in the camp that says Gary Chalk is a Peter Cullen knock-off anyway. So I stand by my initial assessment of the voice.

Did anyone find Bonecrusher and leader Megatron? I could not find them. Every one else toys r us had and target. What with that are they the two most popular toys or what

I haven't seen Megs yet, but the Target near me had Bonecrusher, but didn't have Wreckage or Scorponok out yet, then again they hadn't put anything out but the Deluxes as of yesterday. I stopped by a Wal Mart to pick up Bumblebee vs Barricade, and they seemed to have most of the toys, save for Megs and a few FABs, though I didn't look too carefully.

My last paycheck was rather lean, so three deluxes is a nice haul all things considered.

Actualy, and I can't tell if it's just from the angle, but the Cullens version looks alot better with painted eyesa and all, I know which one to hold out for now!

Actualy, I was looking purely at the paint. One of the first things I do with new merchandise is take out the batteries(assuming Hasbro shelled out for some). The reason being, A, you don't want to forget about them and have them corode, and B, the sound gimmicks get old and anoying fast.

That with the fact that, even though Cullens was the first Prime, Gary Chalk is my personal prefered(the man earned it) Optimus.

But as I just mentioned in a post right before this, the Cullens version has a better paint scheme, so, seeming as that I don't care about the sounds, I will get that one, if not both.

Damn! The one time I pressed the button and didn't hear cullen, I haven't touched one since (I first saw them on Tuesday). I probably would have bought the cullen voice.

when i went to kmart last sunday, they had the fake voice version. im going to try to find the good version.

My Target and Toys R Us were stocked up on the "Fake" one. Didn't see any with the "Featuring Real Movie Voice" on it.

In New Zealand i've been to heaps of places and they only have the KO one. poos...

I got mine. I was with a friend and telling him "They f'ed up and put Gary Chalk's voice, check it" and was surprised to hear the real Prime, Mr. Cullen. I bought it immediately. I got leader Prime too so a very good day.

I thought it was Chalk when I saw the helmets in Target. Should I tell people not to buy it for that reason. "If you buy that, you are only supporting the cheap nasty Prime and not the real(and the best) actor". Or would I been seen as crazy?

Why is the "knock off" called the "Janitor version"?

Thanks for the heads up. I thought they took the Cullen voice away when I checked them yesterday morning. Now I know what to look for when I get one.

I got mine early and it had the Gary Chalk voice. I saw the Peter Cullen one with my girlfriend yesterday at TRU and I got so pissed when I heard it speak! Chalk's voice is acceptable for the helmet, but Cullen's is the right way to do it. I might just have to get 2 of these in the end. But, like I said, I'm really pissed about the whole thing. I almost think this is along the lines of "bait and switch" on Hasbro's part, yet it doesn't quite meet all the requirements of such.

We have a problem people. While at TRU yesterday picking a few figures up I decided to check the voice on a couple in the KO packaging....They had Cullens voice. The other 9 though had Chalks. So it seems like while you can be positive that the one package will contain only Cullens voice, the other might also have his voice. And oddly enough it had the orange eyes as well. Hmm.

I couldn't tell between the two packaging that there was any difference when I was at TRU today. This might explain it.

Hmmm... orange eyes. If there's a varient with orange eyes and Cullen's voice, it might just be 2 variations enough to warrant me to pick up another one.

Walmart had 3 of the poopy ones. Blegh.

Why would Hasbro put out two versions? What do they gain? Is the nonCullen voice better? Could it be a contractual issue with Cullen?

I was wondering the same thing. I almost think that the Chalk one was made before the Cullen one (which is why there appears to be more of these in circulation, at least in my area). If this is true, Hasbro probably figured out that they should've used Cullens voice for this product (or became able to) after many of the first run of these had been produced and/or shipped. Just my theory. It was either an after thought or a correction. I would like to hear the official reason though.

anyone have a voice clip of the cullen one... i cant seem to find the helmet anyhwere to hear the difference. i have the other chaulks one.

I was just at TRU today and discovered that both versions of the packaging may not be the only accurate way of discovering which one is voiced by Cullen himself. I found a few with the "knock-off" style packaging to contain Cullen's voice. The best way to figure which is which is to check the voice clips first, packaging second.
