Courtesy of the Planet Iacon fanpage on Facebook, we get a look at an interesting piece of artwork found in a hobby magazine, featuring Takara Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime in new colours, vaguely reminiscent of the Shattered Glass deco. But no, they are in fact the colour scheme of extremely popular (in Japan and elsewhere) anime franchise Neon Genesis Evangelion based EVA Unit-01, shown in the background of the piece. Take a look at the mirrored image below, and a translation of the text, courtesy of Anime News Network!

I'm into it! Evangelion is an INCREDIBLE series(even if it really makes no sense whatsoever a lot of the time). But as a fan of both franchises I think this is too cool to pass up!

While I have no previous experience with NGE, my understanding that it is a Christian allegory anime that is wildly popular amongst fans, seems to be a really interesting crossover of universes.
Add to the fact that OPrime has died and been resurrected multiple times, provides for several cross continuity points that could be very intriguing.

The Chronicles of Narnia would be a better example of a Christian allegory, whereas Neon Genesis Evangelion is something else entirely and very likely wouldn't be approved of by members of some of more conservative religious groups.

Thanks to site sponsor Robotkingdom we have more information of the previously reported Transformers/Neon Genesis Evangelion Crossover. It appears they will be releasing an EVA-01 figure in Optimus Prime's traditional red and blue deco in 2015. The previously seen art was based on the MP-10 mold, but in EVA-01's color scheme, no word if that figure will also come about. Stay tuned, images of Optimus Eva Prime mirrored below:

Wow...Not diggin this at all. 
The thing is so close to Prime Deluxe Starscream that they should have done Screamer in Prime colors with a slightly remolded head sculpt. That would have been pretty cool actually. I love that mold.

Due to the skinny proportions and the wheels just sort of being plonked onto the sides of the legs, I'm never going to be able so see this toy without thinking of this guy's artwork:

Wait, what? That's kinda hard to swallow. Wouldn't that mean Bandai made this (Tamashii is part of Bandai)? I have a hard time believing Takara would let them handle anything with a Transformers logo on it. Also, the quality of the joints is far inferior to what we'd see from Bandai in S.H.F. or Robot Damashii. I'm more likely to believe it's a Takara Tomy Arts mini figure with such simple joints.

Evangelion is a Bandai property I believe, so using Tamashii Web makes sense.

Huh. I was liking the purple-green MP, but this is a bit odd for Prime. It reminds me too much of Prime Soundwave. I mean, it looks cool, but I dunno.

Not that it matters anymore, but it's not. Most Japanese figure companies have done Eva figures in one way or another including Takara Tomy.
