The Premiere for Rise of the Beasts took place in Singapore earlier today, and it was followed by a news conference where all kinds of questions were asked and answered. You can see the full conference HERE thanks to Reuters on Twitter but here is a breakdown of the more spoiler stuff (do not read beyond this if you want to avoid spoilers):

- There are no Decepticons in the film. The scene of Optimus vs a Decepticon in Brooklyn was removed from the final film. So for all those who doubted how they could fit all those factions in

- The film is officially said to not be a reboot. While it can be said to be a sequel to Bumblebee or a prequel to the Bay films, or even a stand alone film, the panel wanted to make it clear that this is not a reboot.

- Lorenzo di Bonaventura gives a really reductive take on Ironhide. Not a spoiler, but something I wanted to highlight because it really stirred me the wrong way.

- The end credit scene is a hint to a future crossover between Transformers and GI Joe

- There was a planned scene for Charlie, from the Bumblebee movie, to appear but it did not happen. She could be back for a future installment.

Yeah, it's a fun fact, but I neve got around to do it as a full on news story, working on another news story now, spoilers galore, so if you guys want no spoilers, stay away.

well then ya better not include the spoilers in the title of the news article...

I will be leaving this thread then, until I see the movie.

I don't consider these to be true "spoilers".
Nothing crucial here.

I remember my Brony days and a key element of a trio of ponies was they were looking for their butt-tattoos to appear, symbols that will decide their future. They were looking for it for at least 2 seasons and that was their main drive.
I could only see the episodes on the Seven Seas, way after they were released.
Of course I go to youtube.
Of course a prominent clipper appear in my recommended.
Of course there was the bold title complete with the obvious in-your-face thumbnail yelling "THEY FOUND THEIR BUTT-TATTOO". #-o

The parallel would be imagine if the internet existed in 1986 with youtube, and there would be a bold title complete with the picture, "OPTIMUS FUKKING DIES!" :-(

Now, THAT'S spoilers.

That actually kind of happened. At least half of that movie's trailers and commercials from back then all alluded to Optimus's death (saying "DOES PRIME DIE?!!"), instead of keeping it secret.

Going by what's been said about the movie both before and after release, this is one I'm definitely passing on. (Which is too bad; I grew up on Beast Wars as a child and was curious to see how they'd work on the big screen despite being Bayformers.)

Yeah, I with you. Regardless of the main plot and other characters, I don't have a good feeling about the Maximals. Maybe towards the end they'll reveal at least 1 or 2 Predacons.

You fear the AoE Dinobots treatment?
Meaning just a side-note in the movie and that's it?

Precisely. As well as the DoTM Megatron/Shockwave treatment.

I have a feeling these Beasties will be of the WFC-K ilk rather than the originals.

I rather the BW characters get their own movie/limited series, even if it's straight to Blu-ray/streaming.

The only predacons are a horde of robot scorpions. They aren't an actual faction in this film.

Right. That's why I said maybe a couple of them get revealed somehow at the end, as a setup for the next movie, which *crosses fingers* will be all about Beast Wars. Wishful thinking, I'm sure.

N.E.S.T. doesn't form until the 2000s. This movie is set in the '90s.

And yet the Director says Reboot. "reboot for sure," is something that can't mean anything else.

So frankly it's conflicting information because Lorenzo so desperately wants it to not be, so ultimately we seem to be in a strange middle ground.

But we'll see what happens with the next film or in future news stories, it depends who's staying on board for future films.

Maybe if they included Transformers from the start, since the 2007 movie was critically and financially successful, the 2013 Joe movie could have been a crossover of sorts, off the heels of DoTM's big success.

And this right here is my main issue: the constant flip-flopping. This guy says it's a reboot, this guy says it's the same universe, this guy says it's a "new storytelling universe" - whatever that is -, the other guy says it's a reboot again; can't everyone involved with these films just pick one answer to the question and stick with it?! :BOOM:

Anyways, on lighter notes, guess Caple Jr. wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to evoke the feelings of Unicron's first appearance; he even borrowed the music! And good thing he did; that theme always gave me chills.

And it's nice to see how careful and respectful they were with a historical site like Machu Pichu. I really hope the same care reflects in the final product.

Watching the part in that video where he says it's a reboot, he's very wishy-washy about it, and continues by saying things like "There's things you could probably connect to it," and emphasizes Bumblebee as "clearly" a "huge connection to all the movies". When spelling out what he means by "reboot", he speaks of the movie's direction and such, never actually specifying it as a completely separate "reality" or "universe".

And there remains the possibility that he may end up not being the director of the next live-action movie to come after ROTB, and that new director could choose to spin things closer to the continuity (soup) of the Bay movies.

It honestly feels to me that he's using the word "reboot" like how Age of Extinction had been described as a "reboot", and we all know how that movie turned out in relation to Dark of the Moon.

Yes it is a reboot, it says it right here in the "I'm not blind or deaf, and I've seen the first 5 movies" handbook.

I think that is indeed the reason. They have this IP that hasn't worked in the past so maybe attaching it to TF is the way to finally get everyone excited about it.

You say that and yet the context when he mentions that leaves a lot to interpretation. It is not cut and dry. At least not as cut and dry as Lorenzo's comments in the film's press conference. He's being very wishy washy. And as others have pointed out, while he did direct the film, he does not have final say, and might not direct the next one (or have final say on the next one, ect). It's Paramount and the producers who are keeping this in limbo, keeping it vague, on purpose. But I said it before and I'll say it again, it doesn't really matter regardless. If you can't be sure when watching the film, then whatever someone tells you won't change that. The film should speak for itself.

For sure but it's just another piece that doesn't confirm it one way or another, can't say it's either a reboot or not with 100 percent certainty so saying "officially confirmed not a reboot" is just as uncertain especially in an interview/livestream where some people in it seemed actually stoned.

Really says something when the directors of both Bumblebee and ROTB approach the film with a reboot like mind despite the producer doing literally anything he can to keep it not as a reboot.

Regardless of it all just can't stand Lorenzo as far as being a producer goes and not just in regards to his involvement in Transformers films, no faith in the Transformers x Gi-Joe idea considering Snake Eyes.

The only way this Joe X-over can work is if they give them the Bee Movie treatment. Keep the Joes as much "G1" as possible, including the little bits of nonsensical silliness that comes with the Sunbow classic.

NOT trying to "reinvent the wheel" and making them "full mature edgy" like they did for the previous Joe 3 movies.

The Transformers Rise of the Beasts film has premiered and will be out soon for all to see. In the meantime, we have some fun images for you. These are scans from two books for children based on the film. While they may be based on earlier versions of the script, it is fun to see the ideas that were brought into the film and what may have been dropped. For instance, we see that the Freezer character is called a sweep and we see that Airazor brings up the concept of the Maximals being the Autobots' future (ALA the Kingdom cartoon).

We'll see if that sticks at all. But the best part is that below you will see some great art from TF artist extraordinaire Guido Guidi. Enjoy!

Yes, I agree with all of that, because that's basically the truth to it all. This franchise is in continuity limbo on purpose to both give creativity to the new people on board but also retain any pre established fanbase. Personally, not a fan. I'd rather have something end and then do something clearly new.

I do want to clarify one thing though, regarding your quote. While we can see what's going on, the question was asked at the global press conference and the answer was that this is not a reboot. That is an official stance from the producer, speaking to the global press, after being asked to confirm how the film should be interpreted. So it's a fact that the production team does not consider this film to be a reboot when compared to the other films in the franchise.

And that piece of info helps us understand what can happen going forward. It means that Paramount can tie things up later if they want and it means that there won't be a clear severance from the other movies in the series.

The press release from Paramount sent to all entertainment news publications states as such.

Here's the blurb of the film from Total Film magazine as another example:

The film is set seven years after Bumblebee, in 1994, before the events of the Bay movies. Which meant Optimus Prime and the other Autobots aren't quite at the comfort levels they've reached with humanity by the time they strike up a relationship with Shia LaBeouf.

While the film is a stand alone adventure not really explicitly linked to anything, it is being marketed as a prequel to the Bay films for simplicity's sake.

We Transformers fans like when the talent who have contributed to our beloved brand are given proper care and attention. So it's nice to see Peter Cullen in the latest featurette stating that he's never had more fun than working on the film with Steven, the director. The featurette is about the director in general and about how he has brought his new vision to the film, which includes adding the Brooklyn element. Unlike Michael Bay, who didn't even want Cullen to voice Prime initially, Steven Caple Jr is a big fan of Peter and grew up with the Transformers show. So you can get a sense of the different dynamic and reverence for the source material. Also, it is fun to note that on social media, Steven has stated that Optimus Prime's face is meant to resemble Peter Cullen.

Enjoy the new featurette along with a bunch of added tv spots.

Great to see Cullen’s having a better time working on this than Bumblbee.

Also, that story about Bay not wanting Cullen as Prime isn’t exactly true. Supposedly, Lorenzo’s the one that didn’t want Cullen involved in the film while Bay was the one actively pushing for Cullen as both Prime and Ironhide. While that particular story has never been 100% confirmed, Cullen has said publicly that Bay was really excited to have him voice Optimus.

Alright, thanks

Alright, thanks
Then who was it that originally wanted Liam Neeson to voice Optimus in the first movie? I thought I recalled an interview or behind-the-scenes featurette where Bay had mentioned wanting Neeson for Optimus while also mentioning Hugo Weaving for Megatron.

That was likely Lorenzo, who wanted to fill the cast with a bunch of big names. Bay was, supposedly, pushing hard for Cullen and Welker, and he may have actually been pushing for the entirety of the original voice cast to come back.

NEW YORK –– MAY 30, 2023 –– Ahead of the highly-anticipated Transformers: Rise of the Beasts premiere, Hasbro, a global leader in play, has collaborated with Amazon for “Transformers: Battle in Brooklyn” – a special fan event to drive excitement for the upcoming premiere and to showcase the diverse selection of toys, apparel, accessories, and home décor available in the Amazon Transformers store, including hundreds of Transformers products exclusive to Amazon. This special event in the borough of Brooklyn, which also serves as the film's backdrop, will feature fun-filled Transformers-themed activities, interactive, shoppable Amazon product displays, and surprises for fans. Free to the public, the “Transformers: Battle in Brooklyn” event will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 3 - 7 p.m. in Brooklyn, NY, at the intersection of Waterbury Street & Scholes Street. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be released globally by Paramount Pictures exclusively in theatres on June 9.

Transformers fans and families can look forward to the following activities:

● A Graffiti-Style Mural from Dragon76 – Hasbro teamed up with Japanese street artist Dragon76 to create a spectacular mural in East Williamsburg that showcases the Transformers brand in a vital, passionate ‘90s graffiti style—the perfect backdrop for memorable fan photos and videos to mark the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

● Transformers Product Showcase – On display will be an exciting exhibit showcasing the hottest new toys like the Bumblebee and Optimus Primal 2-in-1 Converting Masks and the Beast Battle Masters Cheetor figure, as well as collectibles and more from the latest Transformers consumer product lineup. Attendees will also be able to browse a new collection of Amazon exclusive products inspired by the graffiti mural, including t-shirts, tanks, and hoodies for kids and adults from Merch on Demand, Amazon’s print-on-demand service that allows customers to shop millions of products from popular brands and independent designers. The showcase will include shoppable QR codes that make it easy to order items directly from Amazon. Prime members enjoy fast, free delivery.

● Food Trucks – Event-goers can grab some bites to eat from local, on-site food trucks, Glazed & Confused and Takumi Tacos, which will offer free food from special Transformers-themed menus on a first come, first served basis, as supplies last.

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set in Brooklyn, and we thought what better location to host this special event that will appeal to Transformers fans of all ages?” commented Tom Warner, SVP & GM, Global Brands at Hasbro. “Fans can immerse themselves in the world of Transformers, and we look forward to celebrating the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts launch and showcasing the Hasbro toy line—all things that make this franchise iconic.”

New York-area public transit riders will also have the opportunity to purchase Transformers-branded MetroCards featuring ‘90s graffiti artwork at select stations beginning June 2nd. Approximately 50,000 MetroCards will be distributed across machines located in Penn Station, Grand Central Station, and Times Square, while supplies last. Additionally, Transformers movie-inspired artwork will appear on Amazon Hub Lockers around the country. Use the Amazon QR code embedded in both the MetroCards and on Amazon Hub Lockers to shop the Amazon Transformers store.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Hasbro on these real-world and online activations to showcase the incredible selection of products in the Amazon Transformers store, including several franchise exclusive products for customers,” said Mike Popchuk, VP, Home and Lifestyle Categories at Amazon. “We’re proud to help offer an innovative Transformers shopping experience for our customers this summer in Brooklyn and beyond.”

Join the battle and immerse yourself in the world of Transformers! Find out more about the event at amazon.com/TFbattleinbrooklyn.

Have any of you ever wanted to hear Optimus Prime say "When the rideshare is sus"? Well today's your lucky day since Paramount is now marketing to Gen Z in their Rise of the Beasts campaign. They made a short, popular format with that demographic, using their lingo. But the good thing is that this short is Stratosphere's transformation. It ends with a joke from Mirage. Honestly, not much more to say, the short was mirrored onto an unlocked youtube clip you can see below.
