Prowl an Shockwave are redecos, Shadow Panther comes with different accessories from Cheetor (including a mutant mask) and Cordon is a slight retool of Sunstreaker.
As we know already, this Prowl figure will also be released simultaneously in the US and an interview between Seibertron and Hasbro confirmed that this will happen more frequently from here on out. Due to the brand unification going both ways, Hasbro will now be importing Takara Masterpiece figures themselves and selling them through specialty retailers (like Entertainment Earth, BBTS, ect) with a wraparound cover for English words. We have transcribed the interview for you below, you will find it after the images of the Masterpiece figure display.
Ryan (interviewer) – Speaking of Masterpiece, Takara Tomy is releasing Beast Wars Megatron – is that coming from you guys or not?
Ben (Transformers Brand Manager) – It’s a partnership we have with Takara now, so Hasbro are now importing the Takara Masterpiece items stateside. You will see a box that will go around the Takara Tomy original packaging, like a slip sleeve sort of thing, that will bring our brands together. It will be the exact release you would’ve expected in Japan, at the same time you would’ve gotten it in Japan.
Ryan – Is it a product you worked on together?
Ben – There’s definitely more collaboration going on, not to the level of Movie Masterpiece, but in general you see the unification of our brands, product lines, the Masterpiece line that Takara is creating is our next step in working together.

Pretty sure we all know it's coming from Takara Tomy, that wasn't the question.

The lowest they ever went on the secondary market (which was the main way to get it outside the initial market) was around the 500$ mark. Its only gone up since

Mandarake sells opened ones with slight box damage like yours occasionally for 80,000 JPY, about $721, but for a seller outside of Japan you might be able to ask $800. Definitely wont sell one for $4,000+ like people are asking on eBay.

Not I. I've already pre-Ordered BW Megs, the biggest and likely most expensive of that line. Other than MP Galvatron, I have no interest in the MP Collection outside of Beast Wars.
That said, If HasTak seemingly want to price the majority G1 Collectors out of the market, on their heads be it.

I'm not happy about it, but Takara is just being greedy. That's their right, of course, but it's lost them a customer, and probably gained the KO market a new one.
I'm waiting to see the price on Hound. If it's the same as Sunstreaker, I'll pay it, but if it's more, than he is a pass as well.

Yeah, KO's can be hit or miss. The MPM Prime KO was vastly superiour to the official, but the MPM Barricade (which I bought by accident) was good, but not as good. I've heard nothing but praise for the Megatron 36 KO's, but I honestly never paid any attention to the Sunstreaker one. I know the Datsun KO is of equal quality, but the Sideswipe/redalert was lacking.
All I know is that anything over 250, really 230 bucks is simply a ripoff, no matter how good looking or desired, or official a mold is. The pricing for BW Megtatron and Prime 44 makes me want to never buy a Takara product again. If it wasn't for my kids liking Transformers, Hasbro would have priced me out of the main line purchases a couple of years ago. As it is, I try and wait for sales and discounts.

Better to have known and lost than never to have known at all..?
The price is tempting, and the defect doesn't bother me.. buuut the figure looks clunky. Especially with that nosecone between his legs.
Itscramtastic, just wait for Takara to redo the jets with less kibble and more articulation (and more money )

Yes they are. My MP Sideswipe is a pretty good KO, but the panels don't line up very well in alt-mode, but outside of that he's damn good and compares very well to the real deal. Oh his legs came assembled on the wrong side, but was an easy fix. Cobo got a pretty bad copy of his Sideswipe though and I've seen stories all over the place when it comes to QC. Same with Sunstreaker. I also have a "KO MP Tracks" that cannot be distinguished from the real deal, oddly suspiciously so. Do your research first.Ironhidensh wrote:william-james88 wrote:I am out for G1 molds (already was) but will keep supporting BW MPs. I just got the a MP Ultra Magnus KO and overall it's very good. It's by Toy House Factory which also does the reportedly good Megatrons. UM does have a few sloppy paint apps here and there, but he also has improvements from the original.
So basically YMMV and do your research.

[quote="Cyberpath"]itscramtastic, just wait for Takara to redo the jets with less kibble and more articulation (and more money ) I really don't neeeeeeeeed them, I'd be happy with Ramjet and Thrust as I have the G1's and Ramjet was hangin' with Starscream and Astrotrain (and Thrust) before Galvatron vaporized him.Cyberpath wrote:Better to have known and lost than never to have known at all..?

Yeah, very sloppy looking. Almost as if they wanted to get the most use out of the jets mold before they retired it and made a new one..

I have to say I'm pleased that they slowed down the pace again. My top 5 figures for 2016 were all Masterpieces(!) -- and 4/5 for 2017. That's kind of crazy, glad 2018 had none. (Waiting for August 2019 for the next one though.. )

Only for those whose original toys don't cut the muster. Like, almost every Armada figure besides Unicron, Tidal Wave, etc.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Who here would like to see them do Masterpiece Unicron Trilogy figures?
Or all of the early wave Autobot toys from Energon.
But most of the Cybertron toys are good enough to still be satisfactory, and were already pretty darn show-accurate from the get go due to their CG models being so toy-accurate.

Hey, I think even the Armada toys are still good as playthings despite their faults.
As for the Cybertron toys.. Yeah, most of them are still satisfactory (although shortcomings on some of them stick out more today than thy did before). But some of them got it it in the shorts (Leobreaker and Starscream come to mind).
Aside from that there's a difference between being satisfactory and chasing - to a reasonable degree - perfection.
In any case, Unicron Trilogy MPs - especially Cybertron ones - would be spared the overengineering of MP-44 and the Beast Wars MPs.

MP Unicron Trilogy? I'm down. I don't think there's much I wouldn't be down for in the MP line though
And sorry folks, I posed that "in or out" question a week ago and didn't weigh in myself
I'm still in. Part of me feels like I'm in too deep, I was feeling kinda meh or burnt out while I went all hardcore gamer in recent months. But now that I've taken a break from my Switch, I started picking my toys back up (slowly, but I feel I'm still interested). I opened my Plus Shockwave the other day, and I melted. It's insane what feels it gave me just over the simple pallet swap of Lavenderwave. Then I got my shipping notice for Plus Megatron and I got tingles. So I guess I'm saying that my heart is still in it.
As for the price hike, it's hard. While everything is on the rise, not every figure is going to be 44. And if they limit the 44 type to one a year (or less frequent than that) then I should still be able to manage.

@ Jak -
1. did you order your 36+ direct from Japan? I'm chomping at the bit to get that evil bastard in my hands, but chose the domestic route.
2. Isn't the rejuvenating power of taking a break from bots awesome? Take a mental step away for a minute, and it all seems fresh again.
It's like taking a soak in a Goron hot spring, emaright?

I ordered through A3U.ca after a chat. They said they wouldn't arrive plugged, and they themselves weren't plugging. So mine should arrive without any unsightly orangenessCobotron wrote:1. did you order your 36+ direct from Japan? It was. It was a strange journey too. It wasn't anything I set out to do... I wasn't planning to take a toy break, or even buy a Switch (because I basically got it for free). But I wound up with one, fell in love and dove hard ignoring everything around me. I'm not sure if it was just a really good distraction, or if I was in the midst of toy fatigue, but the break did me some good it seems. I guess it helps having more than one interestCobotron wrote:2. Isn't the rejuvenating power of taking a break from bots awesome? Take a mental step away for a minute, and it all seems fresh again.

A decade ago, I got the TrU exclusive MP Grimlock as a Christmas present. He came in T-Rex mode, and I transformed him and placed him on my Grimlock shelf. Other than dusting it and changing his pose, I didn't touch it since. Today I transformed him back into T-Rex mode for the first time. Surprisingly, all the joints are still tight, the transformation is easier than I remembered, and his lights still work. And now PoTP Grimlock can hold his gun and sword.
