The Transformers Generations franchise offers us a sneak peek at the beginning of their “TITANS RETURN” product with these images of upcoming packaging artwork. There’s only so much room on a box or a blister card, so the scintillating character images developed by our artists sometimes gets maneuvered and cropped from the full glory of the original piece. The Hasbro Pulse has secured the full character artwork that will adorn the packaging for this July’s “TITANS RETURN” Deluxe Generations Wave 1.
The original artwork for their packaging was created by Ken Christiansen, a longtime contributor to the Transformers brand. Ken’s dynamic art style is well-known and appreciated by Transformers fans, and he took some time to talk to us about his work on the “TITANS RETURN” images:
HASBRO PULSE: You've been providing phenomenal artwork for Transformers toys over the years - is this the first time you've worked on a Power Master toy? How different is it to draw a Transformer with a removable head?
KEN CHRISTIANSEN: Thanks very much. I was really thinking about it, and up until working on Titans Retun, it's possible I hadn't drawn a Power Master since I was a little kid, and the original toys were on shelves, back in the 1980s! Drawing a removable head isn't much of a stretch when I'm working on Transformers - it's just another part that is in a different place during a transformation. Though the real magic of the removable head is that it's going to be yet another level of transformation, into a new character!
HASBRO PULSE: Your personal art style is a fantastic match for the aspirational nature of a franchise rooted in metal parts and straight edges - what artists have influenced your style and development?
KEN CHRISTIANSEN: My personal art influences as I was growing up were Drew Struzan, Frank Frazetta, and more to the point of the question, famed industrial and futurist designer Syd Mead. But the direct influence on my Transformers work to this day, is the original box back art on the first line of Transformers, the incredible battle scene that gave life and energy to the very idea of the Transformers. And now that I get to opportunity to contribute to the packaging art, I hope I can inspire the next generation of kids.
HASBRO PULSE: The first wave of Titans Return figures features four fan favorite characters in Blurr, Skullcruncher, Hardhead and Scourge. Do you have a favorite among these "first four?"
KEN CHISTIANSEN: I'm excited about all of them, but for me Skullcruncher is a real standout. I think the design team did an amazing job, and I can't wait to get my hands on him!
These four Transformers will have their toy versions unveiled at New York Toy Fair, and are expected to be available in stores this August.

Astrotrain is a straight redeco of Sentinel Prime while Alpha Trion seems to be a completely new mold which supposedly turns into both a space ship and a lion referencing two past Botcon concepts/toys which were redecos of Beast Machines Snarl and Cybertron Vector Prime. These are both part of the second wave of Titans Return and we will surely be seeing their toys revealed at Toy Fair this week-end!

I'll get Sentinel. His face looks much cooler.
But Alpha Trion is definitely a must-have for me now.

I really like the look of Brainstorm too.

Cyclonus weirdly comes with Kups gun?
Fort Max has lights and sounds!(which isn't surprising, seeing as Generations Metroplex had the same) but one interesting note! he has a transfomation sound when disconnecting the Headmaster unit(& i s'pose reconnecting too)

I think stu meant with any leader class titan returns figures since they have a base mode that can link to tryp, same way they can with fort max

Chromedome looks good, I will say, especially for a retool of Dead End. Though once again he suffers a complete lack of both chrome and domes.
Alpha Trion I may very well jump on, as the only other options are a hugely expensive Botcon exclusive or a third party figure that was only made in very small numbers. Plus, he looks pretty cool.
Astrotrain as mentioned before looks superb. Sentinel Prime I can live without, but I've got dat train on the brain man. The shuttle mode is pretty cool and the train mode reminds me of a goddamn battleship. On RAILS.
Scourge, eh. I need to see more pics of him.
Blurr...Honestly I'll probably just get Animated Blurr. Never cared much for the G1 design.
Brainstorm seems pointless. I'll try and track down the Generations Voyager.

I am a little bit disappointed by Mindwipe (well his beast-mode at any rate).

Why has this particular Fort Max got white hands and blue lower thighs while the box-art and the official transformers instagram pic have blue hands and grey lower thighs?
I prefer the white handed version, hoping that's what we actually get.

Looks like 'prototype grey' to me...

Fortress Maximus is indeed a retool of Metroplex and it shows most in vehicle mold since it is not the city most were hoping, but rather a very flat area with little elevation. Also, the legs and groin area turns out to be the reverse of that same area of Metroplex (where the back is now the front). He is not shown with a sword, meaning that the sword edition will be limited.
We also have the Legends class figures, Laserbeak using the Buzzsaw mold, Rumble using the Rewind mold, and Wheelie who is a totally new mold.
Lastly for now, since we do not have the voyagers yet, we have the deluxes who are:
Blurr with Hyperfire
Scourge and Fracas
Chromedome comes with Stylor
Mindwipe and Vorath, Vorath hangs upside down inside of Mindwipe
That Chromedome mold looks a lot like the Dead End mold at the arms section yet everything else looks very different. Let us know if it looks like a totally new mold to you or a heavy retool instead. The entire gallery can be found here.

If they are just unpainted prototype hands then that is a bummer, the white/grey hands help break up all that blue.
Posted by Stuartmaximus on February 13th, 2016 @ 5:32pm CST
but i wonder how tall Cerebros will be? hmmm as tall as a Deluxe? or bigger? or maybe a wee bit smaller.....like a Cyberverse?
his battlestation/spaceship mode looks ok! but i think they've got the legs too close together! i've got Metroplex so i know you can separate the legs a little.

New Titans Return products were on display including the massive Fortress Maximus, Mindwipe, Wheelie, Rumble, Soundwave, Powermaster Optimus Prime, Blurr, Combiner Wars Victorion and plenty more!
We've posted some of the pictures below, and you can check out the galleries Here, and you can see the Titans Return Official Products Photogallery also. Let us know what you think of these new editions to the Titans Return line in the comments below.

Mindwipe looks pretty terrible, I have to say. Those bat legs... I might just try and hunt down the FP version. Or the ROTF version. Either one.

Well, it's nicely reminiscent of his original purpose, and removes the need to have huge chunks of tower hanging off of his sides.

Why, that would only serve to make him less aerodynamic, and thus unable to be a 'blurr' when flying

yeah i noticed that, dunno why he couldn't've formed that little structure he normally forms with the G1 figure? + it also does away with being able to place Spike/Emissary in the tower while in Spaceship/battlestation mode! instead he'll probably be sat on that gun emplacement next to the tower.
as for not having towers hanging off the sides of him in robot mode! well it also does away with those big hip cannons that the original had! which i think was part of what made Fort Max.
