First up, give it up for the Protectobots! The ranks of the Protectobots include their leader, Hot Spot, and his subordinates Blades (retool and redeco of the existing Alpha Bravo mold), First Aid (who is rather jeep-ish), Rook (who transforms into a APC-like SWAT vehicle), Streetwise (sporty-looking police car), and Groove, who is now confirmed to be Legends-sized and also pulls double duty as forming armor to Defensor ala Generations: Combiner Wars Menasor.
Fans of the IDW-verse rejoice as they gaze upon Ultra Magnus... who not only rocks an IDW-themed look, but also includes his actual self, Minimus Ambus, who is capable of fitting inside the big UM and transforming into a Cybertronian vehicle. Also worth noting, as demonstrated in the last image, his shoulder-mounted rockets and rifles are capable of combining into a giant hammer, made iconic by the Animated version of the character!
Keep your optics tuned to us here at Seibertron.com: we expect to get official images of all of these figures sometime tonight!
***UPDATE***
We also have new images of Voyager Cyclonus, who forms the torso of the gestalt called "Galvatronus" whose head is based on (you guessed it) Galvatron (no images yet... stay tuned!), and Legends Warpath and Viper, the latter of which is an homage to a GI Joe vehicle, the Cobra-affiliated Rattler.

Also, the inclusion of Minimus Ambus in Leader Magnus is a great, thoughtful touch. Can't wait to see more pics.

For Blades, this makes perfect sense. I can just imagine him shooting missiles at a burning building while the human occupants run in terror. All the while, Blades is saying to himself, "I'm helping!"

Protectobots looks great, no real surprises in the mould choices for retools, but Hotspot and Groove look great.
Better start saving...

It truly is! A great toyline so far and we're not even a year in. Long may it continue!
So far I'm in for the lot really, with a few exceptions here or there. Not sold on Cyclonus as I still find my RTS version to be spot on. The new version just seems a bit too bulky and blocky. It suits Silverbolt, but not Cyclonus. Although that alt mode looks great, however what with the body kibble underneath I'm still preferring the Classics iteration. I guess people will be happy to have a Voyager sized version of him though!

So from these pics it's clear that Ambus sits inside the cab when Magnus is in bot mode. I wonder if he can fit in there whilst Magnus is in alt mode, or whether Magnus' head will take up that space.
Also, this leads me to wonder whether Magnus is going to be a bit of a partsformer. You can see from the behind shot that the truck wheels fold up onto his back and that the cab of the truck sits inside the Magnus body. I don't have the Masterpiece figure to tell how similar the figures may be in terms of transformation.

While MP Ultra Magnus may be the defining G1 UM ... CW UM may just be the best UM.

HasTak is on a budgdet, They can't afford to create all new toys for the CW combiners. I'd rather take all these repurposed CW Combiners toys instead of the option of nothing.
Think this is brillant on HasTak's behalf. It's HasTak's better ideas.
Think most fans knew this was going to happen. Just by looking at those Kreon Combiners and HasTak's budget issues.
These repurposed CW Combiners use enough retooled parts and different colors to make them each unique and stand out.

And while I have nothing bad to say about any of the other things, I don't think I'll spring for any of them. Not as soon as they come out, anyway!

For the record, me and Bravo are tight. I don't mind the team member changes either. I don't do a lot of repaints, but in this context it's totally fine, and I will gladely double up on molds.Tsutsukakushi wrote:These repurposed CW Combiners use enough retooled parts and different colors to make them each unique and stand out.
Silverbolt just flew in from Wisconsin this morning. I'm gonna combine him with Bravo 1st!

The Protectobots are bought. I was thinking about holding out for MakeToys, but when it comes to cost/complexity, Hasbro wins each time.
I'll be getting Viper simply because he's so cute.

Don't mind the mini figure inside CW Ultra Magnus. As this is what I want a HasTak or 3rd party Update Leader class Mega Pretender toy to be like.
Noticed CW Leader Ultra Magnus has more articulation than the MP-22 toy does, minus the hands.
CW Cyclonus, That is one massive retool in the League of 30th Sandstorm. Wanted a Voyager Cyclonus from HasTak for years. As I felt the 2.0 Deluxe toy was too tiny. CW Cyclonus is going to scale nicely next to Unique Toys Mania King.
CW Defensor looks breathe taking. It's another home run for HasTak. Think it's HasTak's best CW Combiner. Think it was brillant to reuse some Stunticons and Alpha Bravo. I'd rather get Three repurposed heavily retooled toys instead of the option of nothing.
Kinda guessed Grove would form a chest plate.
Guessing CW Onslaught is going to be a massive retool using the CW Hotspot toy. With Two to Three more repurposed CW combiners. With maybe One New toy.
Rid Fracture looks to be Voyager class. Like the designs enough to consider buying the toy.
Those Hockey puck Rid Minicons look weird. Like those CGUG ones did.
Would of liked to see the CW Galvatronus head that Cyclonus has for the combiner.
Notice Masquerade Fakesaur was a no show at toy fair.
Don't mind HasTak repurposing so many of the CW combiners. Rather take this instead of the option of nothing. Don't think many fans were surprised by this as HasTak's budget could only alllow a limited number of new molds.
Think all of the Repurposed CW Combiners have enough extensive retools and different colors. To make each toy unique and stand out.
Is that some paper stickers faction symbols I see on some of the toys? Or are those all painted on?

Leader Ultra Magnus
Deluxe First Aid
Deluxe Blades
Deluxe Streetwise/smart
Voyager Hotspot
Legends Groove
Voyager Cyclonus
Leader Megatron (not armada)

With regards to these points - agree in a lot of ways, although I still see Superion as being the best, which is why I think they released him first.
Defensor looks great, nice and bulky like his original self. The only thing I will say is that I've seen an angle which looks like Groove's wheel sticks out of the chest. Not sure without seeing proper in-hand pics but I've got a feeling I'll be combining him without the Legends figure in the chest, just like Menasor (who I think looks miles better without Blackjack and a closed chest).
Like yourself I'm fine with retools. Most of the Classics figures were retools, and some great figures at that. I really would be curious to see what further retools we'll get after these rumours of Onslaught and Scattershot.

We have the pretools of Hot Spot, Rook, Breakdown, Drag Strip and possibly the proper Firefly and Blades ones (new heads don't really count) to look forward to. Start guessing

Motormaster and Optimus - MM looks better in it, but Optimus was released first (not necessarily produced).
Silverbolt and Cyclonus - SB looks better (to me) and came first.
Hot Spot - maybe an Onslaught basis?
[You could go to Springer and Sandstorm - design was for Sandstorm, Springer came first.]

That's what I've been wondering, especially in regards to the new characters Alpha Bravo and Offroad, based on Blades and First Aid. If we see a third retool of these molds (come on, Vortex), that would confirm my suspicions of them being afterthoughts for the sake of variety.

It's like a chicken and egg conundrum!
As far as speculating goes:
Combaticons:
Onslaught - Hot Spot
Vortex - Blades/Bravo
Blast Off - Weirdly enough could be Blades/Bravo again, just a heavy retool.
Swindle - First Aid/Offroad
Brawl - Could be a strange heavy retool of Rook.
Shockwave as the Legends weapon for Bruticus.
Technobots:
Scattershot - Can't see Silverbolt working. Possibly a new mould?
Afterburner - Groove
Lightspeed - Dead End/Streetwise
Strafe - Aerialbot Deluxes perhaps? Unless they use a new mould for him and Blast Off.
Nosecone - No idea. Unless, like Strafe, it's a new mould shared with Brawl perhaps.
Since Afterburner could be a Groove retool this means they might introduce a new Deluxe member.
Weirdly enough, Rook reminds me of Universe Onslaught. It'd be funny if they pull a fast one and make Onslaught a retool of Rook and use him as a limb. If that happened then why not go the whole hog and make Blast Off the torso and watch the scale nuts' heads explode!

Oddly enough, what he reminds me of is Armada/Cybertron Red Alert. Not in vehicle mode, but in robot mode the claw that plugs in and takes the place of his hand gives me that vibe. Although I can sorta see molded hands, but the pegholes in the front make me unsure if I really do. (If/when I get him, I'm plugging Defensor's hand into the other hole. (An ambitious kitbasher could probably make a Hellboy transformer that way. If someone does, I want to see pics ))

Mixmaster - Cement mixer mode blows monkey balls. Hasbro did that to mess with G1 purists. There was no reason to design him like that when the other 5 were all done G1 faithful.
Ultra Magnus – Really awesome. Glad there is no annoying white Prime. Love the overall G1 appearance. But his stacks are too tall. I guess I can live with that if he is the same size as City Commander. (Jetfire’s height minus the wings/backpack) I don’t need Ultra Magnus any bigger than that. He is not a combiner, lol.
Protectobots - Awesome. Glad to see Alpha Bravo is finally good for something. Rook is ok. I would be open to someone doing a proper Groove as a limb even if the scale in alt mode is off.
Cyclonus – Meh with a capital “M”. The Silverbolt mold is about as “Cyclonus” as the Motormaster mold is “Optimus”. Too many sacrifices to accommodate a combiner feature that is totally unnecessary for the character.
Viper - Stupid GI Joe crossover. It should have been Tailwind.
Warpath - waste of plastic. I like to call him “not Warpath”. They might as well repaint the leader megatron red and call him MP warpath.
