I wonder what the vehicle mode and model will be. I was really hoping that there would be a Rodimus in the movies, perhaps another semi truck, red with yellow flames. (A Bayverse version of Super-Link Rodimus Convoy would be awesome!) They did the flame paint job for Optimus, it would have been much more appropriate for Rodimus. Also, I suspected there will be a Hot Rod/Rodimus character in the next film ever since Judd Nelson was at BotCon.

I'll put the swear words aside for now. On a positive note his shins match the IDW version of the character, which feels like a nice nod. Otherwise if you asked me to tell you who this is supposed to be a new version of I'd be hard-pressed to say; he doesn't have the flame deco, the wrist-gun-pipe thingies, the big spoiler... and they're really taking this "brother in arms with Bumblebee" thing very seriously since I am pretty sure that's just a recolour of Bumblebee's head.
To put it in a less-than-violent way, it's not a design I particularly care for.

On a side note, is anyone else getting a distinct Bossk (Leia's Return of the Jedi disguise)vibe from his face?

It's movie 5 you should not be surprised by now that colours are different from their g1 counterparts it's your own fault for expecting things that won't happen.
And it's good we can have a new interpretation of a character instead of copy and pasting a old design.

Who may or may not be a massive character in the movie. You're assuming things based on the name alone, yet previous films have shown that a big name doesn't always make the character a big deal in their movie. For instance, Shockwave is a huge name, yet he was barely in DOTM. Grimlock, too, is a big name, yet he played no big role in AOE until its final 20 minutes out of what was almost a 3 hour movie, and said role was little more than being Optimus's fire-breathing horse.SlyTF1 wrote:Burn wrote:SlyTF1 wrote:This is huge.

We needn't have to get too excited about this reveal just yet until we find out more about what kind of role he'll play in the movie. For all we know, he could be a double agent who tries to assassinate Optimus for the Decepticons, or he could be a mere comic relief foil for the more main characters to play off of, or he could even only have a cameo appearance at the film's ending meant to build up hype for the sixth movie. Or he could even just be killed off shortly after his introduction just the shock the audience.
We simply don't know anything about him at this point, so there's not much to go on for now besides his name since he could have had any name with that design and still be the same character anyway. And with the films' history of using familiar names for different characters, it's anyone's guess as to whether or not he'll have any real importance to the film's story or if he'll be anything like the typical Hot Rod character type (beyond the rudimentary details we are given by this image).

1: why the hell would the reveal him now if he was just a cameo at the end of the movie would they not keep it a secret?
2: They have never done that with new Autobots in the movies EVER and why bother making a unique design for him with an expensive car mode to kill him off eh?
Why does no one think logically about stuff like this like Jesus Christ.

The engine block looks like it says Lamborghini on it.
Could be wrong.
edit: he appears to be a Lamborghini centenario.

I don't care what his role is. All that matters is that he's in the movie. That opens up doors for him to be in future movies, just like AOE did for Grimlock and the Dinobots. It's especially interesting that they described Hot Rod as Bumblebee's Brother-In-Arms, since Bumblebee's standalone movie is coming out after TLK. He now has a relative to play off of, so to speak; someone to relate to and interact with.

The same reason a lot of things happen in this brand: To Sell Toys.Deadput wrote:1: why the hell would the reveal him now if he was just a cameo at the end of the movie would they not keep it a secret?
And what would be gained by keeping him a secret when he's virtually unrecognizable as anyone familiar?
Besides, AOE treated the Dinobots as a big surprise reveal near the end and they were all announced as being in the movie early on in that film's major promotional campaign.

And we're dealing with a new writing staff, so just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't or won't ever be done.
For someone who claims to be open-minded about the possibilities for the movies, you're not really being very open-minded about these possibilities, regardless or whether they will or won't happen.
I could ask yourself the same question, frankly.Deadput wrote:Why does no one think logically about stuff like this like Jesus Christ.

Otherwise known as the innards. What other movie Transformer is similarly unplated/uncolored on the back, with their vehicle mode innards showing? I just went and looked at the character models of a bunch of bayverse Transformers, and none of them are like this. It's like he had plating and such on his back, but he removed it. It's genuinely inexplicable. There's no reason I can think of for him to be like this.

That... was a different time. If they're trying to do this whole cinematic universe thing now, it doesn't make sense that they would announce a major character like this to just to do nothing with him.

And I wonder if he will have the same speech impediment as Bee since they are similar in design and are "brothers." (Yes, I know Bee wasn't "born" with it, but to make Hot Rod relatable to Bee, they need to have character similarities.)

Let's wait and see if this "expanded universe" organized by the writer of friggin' Batnipples and Robin will have any effect at reeling Bay in before we declare this a new era of peace and prosperity, shall we?

You said kill them off as they are introduced not at the end of the movie long after they were introduced as in what happened to cliffjumper in prime.
They won't do that to hot rod they will probably wait until at least the end of the film.

How do you already know that he's a major character? By his name? Again, you're assuming things without knowing anything about what role he'll play in the movie.SlyTF1 wrote:JazZeke wrote:SlyTF1 wrote:I don't care what his role is. I know you just said that you don't care what role he plays and that what matters to you is that he's in the movie at all, but his merely being in the movie doesn't automatically make him a major character since it's the role he'll that will determine how important (or unimportant) a character he is.

They won't do that to hot rod they will probably wait until at least the end of the film.
For the record, we also agree that it's possible that he could instead survive, as it's all up in the air at this point.
Stupid to you or not, speculation is all we have to go on at this point. Otherwise, what's the point in even discussing this TLK Hot Rod news if we can't speculate about anything?Deadput wrote:I am open minded for giving things a chance not for stupid unlikely speculation and if I'm not so what I'm human we tend to be short sighted and hypocritical welcome to earth.

It's a generic, boring, black & red robot with the name "Hot Rod" slapped on it. It has nothing to do with the G1 character.

I can see that.Deadput wrote:I'm not speculating

People have a right to their own opinions even if you don't share them.Deadput wrote:I'm just saying posts like "this probably won't happen" and talking about how the design doesn't have to be copy and paste of G1.
And just so you know, my previous notings of this TLK Hot Rod being unrecognizable by his design were neither a complaint about said design nor its lack of resembling the G1 design, but were instead matter of fact observations meant to further illustrate to Sly how little we know about this character or the role he'll play in the movie.
The points were all aimed at Sly, anyway, so you didn't need to jump in on them when there was nothing in them for you to get defensive about.
Why, the most I myself have even said about this design was a little "be careful what you wish for" joke aimed at the G1 crowd who kept asking for a Movie Hot Rod yet got this very non-G1-looking Hot Rod instead.

I'm excited. I'd love to see what they do with him. If it means I get to own a Magenta Lambo centenario toy with yellow and orange flames on the hood as some obscure repaint at some point, I'm happy.
I have only a passing interest in the bay movies outside of the characterisation of Murdermus Prime. So I'm fairly comfortable for them to do whatever they want.
Remember folks, you can't retroactively ruin good fiction or characters, by making a different alternate universe version of a character, in a completely different medium, that will probably get minimal screentime, have a different personality, and look completely different. Your childhood is safe.
If anything, it just means the kiddies will be more interested in the Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime character and we'll be more likely to get toys of him in the future. Hasbro will make a shitload more money off the Transformers brand and want to keep it going. And we don't even have to go see the film, or buy the movie toys. It's good for us. Win-Win.
