gameinformer has published their latest exclusive Transformers: Fall of Cybertron article, "Transformers: Resurrecting The Dinobots". In addition to awesome art and screenshots mirrored below, the article also contains two videos, "The Story Behind the Dinobots" and "Designing the Dinobots", which can be viewed by clicking here.

Two things unite every sane person in the world: pumpkin pie and the unrivaled awesomeness of dinosaurs. In the '80s, Hasbro capitalized on the popularity of these beasts by creating the memorable team of elite Transformers called the Dinobots. Once a pillar of Transformers fiction, the proud Dinobots went the way of the dodo as the series chose to emphasize other characters. Thankfully, High Moon Studios couldn't let them go, as the Dinobots return to the fight in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Led by the robotic Tyrannosaurus Rex named Grimlock, these five transforming robots will be an intricate part of the story. Check out the first video below to learn how High Moon Studios built a new origin story that logically allowed for robotic dinosaurs on the alien planet of Cybertron.

I want to play with Grimlock already and smash some Decepticreeps with that huge sword! :D

btw, any idea if Grimlock (or any other Dinobot) has a gun as a weapon? In those videos where they showed character modeling and their transformation, it was said that they try to make the gun-arm point forward so you can start shooting immediately, which was the case with Optimus and Jazz. However, Grimlock didn't have his arm pointed forward, so does that mean that he only has a melee weapon?

The latest video confirmed htat Grimlock only has a sword and shield. no gun. His only ranged weapon comes in the form of throwing his enemies at each other.

"Slag" is a swear word in Britain. So, there's not a certainty that they can use that name.

Swoop could use a little blue on him. Otherwise, I was surprised to see that all the designs are remarkably similar to their original counterparts. Really psyched for this game! =P~

Quite aware of that. Calling him "Snarl" to me doesn't work. He was the only Dinobot toy I had as a kid. Calling him "Slag" is only right, IMO.

I'm not saying they should call him Snarl (If they did, what would they call the Stegosaurus?). I'm just saying that there's a possibility they can't call him Slag.

It's also a swear word on Cybertron, which is why I thought that changed it. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to have a character named after your in-universe swear.

Slug isn't bad but WHY? The name changing nonsense with Slag is silly and annoying. Especially when they called him Snarl, whom of which is my favourite Dinobot. I thought that was ridiculous. At least "Slug" is independent of any other TF name which, begrudgingly, is acceptable in my books.

Speaking of........I also noticed that Snarl isn't present. I really want to play as Snarl in this game.

Proof that These series of video games should be pre-G1 instead of TF: Prime. The designs were inspired by G1.

The words "should be" and "inspired" do not help this assertion.

Besides, the interviews in the videos say that this story is only paying homage to G1 but is a different story. They called the G1 story too "kid-friendly" for the story of these games.

Plus, the guy's name isn't "Slag". It's "Slug". ;)

cute... real cute..

then again... those key yet haunting words every fan loves/hates to hear "should be" and "inspired" just add "by" at the end and there you have a hellhole waiting to explode

Every TF series has designed inspired by G1.

That, and the Dinobots being on Cybertron kind of crush the idea of this being a prequel to the G1 cartoon.

To some extent, like Megatron and Primal's head's. Also Optimus Prime and Megatron's designs were nearly identical to their G1 designs. ;)

No, not really. I ran out of examples after Primal and Megatron, so I started making jokes to stretch it out.

I'm also eager to see Sludge after all the mentioning they did of him. I mean "Slug" didn't get mentioned but in passing of his alt mode, and that's it, right? But poor Sludge we get teased about left and right :P
Slug and Sludge being similar (SLUdGe) are my only qualms, otherwise. Love the designs overall! :D

I AM going to miss "Slag" though. I dunno. Any other name really just doesn't do it for me. In memory of Slag! *salute*

And I'm sure we all noticed the Wheeljack concept prominently placed in one of the interviews? I'm forgetting which of these we've already seen and which are new or were unnoticed before....

And yes, hopefully these interviews put to rest the main "in G1 continuity" arguments. They clearly reference G1, but are only taking what they need for their new continuity, or just homages in places.

Maybe one day they'll hold a contest where we can get a tour of HM Studios! I wouldn't mind hanging out with them for a day in their offices!
Transformers and video games, all in one. >:-)

One could argue that Dinobot's head design took cues from G1 Starscream's head design.

5 dinobots? so are they going g1 or all the way and have all the dinobots in this game.

cause originally it should only be 3 and not five, because grimlock, slag, sludge were

the first 3 to be and then came swoop and snarl. i hope they do a good story.. but i do

know this, if they are going to make figures then i say make grimelock be a leader size,

sludge, snarl and slag be voyager and swoop a delux.
