EDIT: I liked the trailer, looks like it's going to be fun, very kid friendly. Does feel a lot more like a prequel to Earthspark or Cyberverse than the movies. The majority of the live chat seemed to really hate it though. Hopefully we get a better quality trailer immediately because it was not the greatest idea to show it on a transparent "screen".

To what @Emerje mentioned, I to look forward to a better quality trailer.

HOLY SHIT I cannot overstate how excited I am for this. The trailer was so much more than I thought we were going to get, I mean the sheer scale of the movie seems astounding. The humor looks like it gels well for the setting, and the VAs all sound great. I’m finding it hard to think of any negatives right now, I’m so giddy.

I hope it does well to be honest. I still want to like it so maybe as more info and trailers come out I'll get more hyped. This is just my first impression.

It's just amazing to actually get a Transformers film that seems like it's actually targeted for it's intended audience, the Bay films while I'm somewhat tolerant on (used to straight up like), I still never thought they were even remotely appropriate for children to watch, or even for plenty in the PG-13 range.
Only thing I really don't like is Megatron's voice but I'm willing to give it a chance regardless, Chris Hemsworth's Optimus/Orion sounds professional at the least, he's one I'm more on board for in my first impressions.
Really like the quality of the animation style though, the lighting especially which is an underrated part of 3D movies, like some of those shots of Bee's Battle Mask for example, so on that front I'm already stoked for a movie that looks good! It's crazy that the visuals in this first trailer here blow me away in comparison to Rise of the Beast's first trailer which was...rough in the CGI side of things.
Edit: Also trailers aren't the actual full movies in the end, any of you remember Spider-Verse or Puss In Boot's first trailers? They weren't that amazing either, so I'm reserving final judgement until the reviews come in.

Good impressions? It's nice to see a transformers movie that ISN'T all about humans. If they can stop themselves from trying to inject any political messages into it, then it should be fine. The renderings are clean and everything looks smooth. A little TOO smooth in fact. There are a lot more rounded edges and contours on every character than I'm used to seeing with Transformers.
And if you want to pre-order the inevitable merchandise? Then the Optimus Prime figure is already up for pre-order on BigBadToyStore.com!

Wreck-It Ralph wasn't Pixar.DeathReviews wrote:What does the ultimate judge think? I had heard rumors the movie is being done by some Pixar alumni people. And... you can REALLY tell that in the trailer. It's full of the exact same kind of goofy humor you would expect to see in a trailer for Inside Out, or Wreck-it-Ralph, Toy Story, or any other movie like that which you care to name. I'm not sure that sets particularly well with Transformers in general.

A lot of the animation & design looks gorgeous, hitting somewhere between Evergreen and the Bumblebee movie for me. Some of the character animation looked maybe a little lower-budget than you might expect? Cybertron looks great though, both underground and topside, and it looks like it's packing so many little nods to bits of TF lore from all over the past 40 years that it's going to demand a close watch on home release.
In short, this is looking like a lot more fun than I was expecting!

I literally sat here and watched this with my mouth hanging open. The trailer is beautiful, well polished animation. The interactions are amazing. All of my nurses and MAs also watched the trailer. None of them are even fans of Transformers, but they ALL plan on seeing this movie now.
That's exactly what a trailer is supposed to do. Well done.
Posted by Bumblevivisector on April 18th, 2024 @ 2:17pm CDT
Beyond Airachnid's cameo, the whole aesthetic strikes me as 'Prime with a bigger budget' more than any other single past CG TF rendering, especially the Vehicons, and it works surprisingly well. I could see this getting all the attention that Rise of the Beasts didn't last summer.

Seconded. Are you saying accidental homicide is OK Sabr? It's all comic relief until someone unintentionally enters the nuclear codes...

Agreed, Transformers (2007) was almost 20 years ago. It's time to let things go. There is no good that can come from dredging up the past. Michael Bay certainly doesn't care so there's no need for people to cling to that.
Anyway, onto the trailer itself. It honestly looks like a fun little movie. While I probably will be waiting till a home media release, I'll still be watching it.

There's a difference between an accident and a bunch of gun-toting maniacs who relish and revel in their obsessive desire to main, mutilate, and massacre the first things that look at them funny (lookin' at you, Crosshairs and Hound).Bumblevivisector wrote:Seconded. I mean I get that Optimus wasn't always the stalwart, confident leader we see in the OG series. each character should be able to grow in a sense mentally, but to have them look "youthful" just doesn't make sense, unless again, their bodies are literally going to be broken, and rebuilt into something closer to what we know. I mean Elita is already "Elita" (not Aeiral), and Megatron was "Born"(built) as is. (Physically, not mentally).
Yeah I know this isn't OG Transformers, and it certainly shows. I still plan on seeing it and giving it a chance, but man, It definitely didn't overwhelm me with positivity, lets just put it that way.
Also, can we officially STOP with inserting classical Rock songs in trailers? It was cool in Guardians of the Galaxy, and its sequels, and dozens of other film trailers that have done it in the past 10 years. But it can stop now. I mean I know Transformers is an original product of the 80's, but "Start Me Up" even predates it.
My nostalgia bias probably would have given a pass to any song from the TF:TM soundtrack, even though this film hasn't earned it yet (maybe they'll play "The Touch", or a rendition of the OF TF theme at the end of the film), but yeah, Rolling Stones and TF doesn't mesh well here.

o.supreme wrote:I dont know......I just dont know... I mean the animation looks good and fluid. I guess I'm just not "wired" into thinking that Mechanical organisms can grow and mature physically. I mean originally Orion Pax body was literally destroyed and he was ReBuilt into Optimus Prime. Call it hoaky, or whatever; but the idea of bots looking "young" and then maturing is just so foreign to my concepts of Transformers. Sure we saw little kiddies on Lithone, but that was a different race of Robots.

This franchise might be in need of some Beast Machines level risks. I’m talking a whole series with almost zero characters that have come before.
Of course I’m still excited, and of course I get someone just not wanting to see it, but some of the reasoning here is a bit confusing.
Posted by Sabrblade on April 18th, 2024 @ 11:30pm CDT
I wouldn't call it completely new and different. It seems to take a heavy amount of influence from the Aligned backstory.Stormshot_Prime wrote:Reading some of these comments and. It’s already so based on what’s come before, but it being not exact to one particular continuity is an issue?

Well I could never forget Botbots, ending on that S7 cliffhanger!

All that being said, what you said is exactly my point, it’s really not that different after all! The Thirteen to Quintesson occupation timeline had become the go to, for better or worse (Earthspark is doing fun things).
Here’s to season 2 of both ES and Botbots! And the success of this film.

That's a shame, especially considering the introduction of Sector 7 implied it was going to possibly attempt to assert continuity with the live-action universe, making it even more relevant to this thread.

They're moving the franchise to an easier audience, it's a much less dark and more relaxed product (though We've to see the entire movie, of course). It's a good decision, as the Bayverse was in dead end by all points of view.
So, comparing TFOne (but also BBee and ROTB) to the TF1/5 it's a complete mistake.
I think We can enjoy this movie for what it is and not for different movies are.
Posted by JazZeke on April 19th, 2024 @ 2:29am CDT
Ultimately, this is just going to be another continuity for the pile. I'll go see it, but I can already tell it won't be my favorite Transformers story.
Posted by -Kanrabat- on April 19th, 2024 @ 4:54am CDT
If TF-1 is the first chapter of an entire new series of movies set in their own closed universe, I'll be all for it. Also, let the art style be consistent and stay 100% animated through the series, please.
This way, having Bee be the same age as Optimus and Megatron would stop bothering me at the very least. I mean, in most universes, Bee is supposed to be a "teen", Optimus a "30-something adult", and Megatron be "in advanced middle age".
In this new series, having those 3 be the same age will surely bring some new dynamics and characters interactions.
Regardless, I'm looking forward this movie.

Good.
The Bayverse is convoluted enough as it is.
No need to add another layer!

Posted by Brokebot on April 19th, 2024 @ 5:52am CDT
But the tone? The slapstick MCU comedy feel is kinda off-putting to me. I realize they have probably culled all the funny bits and packed them into the trailer to try and snare a younger demographic that I aged out of a LONG time ago, but I have a hard time seeing the future OP and Megatron in those characters as they are being presented. Especially Megatron. Then again, this wouldn't be the first trailer I've seen that completely misrepresented the actual movie, so I could be way off-base. My son liked it, so mission accomplished, I guess. Whatever keeps the franchise alive.
This looks like something I'll wait for streaming, rather than buying a ticket.

The FB Transformers Addicts page is a awash in fanboy tears and whining. Frankly, I'm disgusted. I used to think Star Wars fans were the most fickle fan base with the loudest squeaky wheels and 4-year-olds-in-40-year-old bodies throwing temper tantrums because the latest fare doesn't live up to their standards. I have changed my mind, there's a new king of the Fandom Tantrum. Congratulations, Transfans.

It's plainly obvious that it's the start of a new TF universe.
I could understand if the TF storyline was set in the same universe for over 40 years in some epic saga like Star Wars. But the TF franchise created a multiverse basically since G1.
So having new universes added to the pile is expected.
I wish for a movie that will cross the TF universes like the last MCU Spiderman movie. I'm looking forward the interactions between Sunbow G1 Optimus Prime and his 1st Bay trilogy self.

That was a movie aimed at kids but had an amazing story, great characters, and started with exactly the same kind of trailer. We have to remember we are getting a snippet...not the full story. The object of THIS trailer, IMHO, is to pique interest in kids who will demand parents take them to the movie because it looks FUN to them. Like I said earlier, this trailer sold my entire office staff on the movie. That's 9 early to middle age females and one in her 60s. To a person, they said they were excited for this movie. In the end, THAT is the goal...to generate initial interest with familiar characters (this is why Elita is not featured that much...she is simply not as familiar to the general audience) and some comedy aimed at exciting the kids and maybe making us old farts chuckle a bit.

When a restaurant starts serving shit sandwiches and blames the customer for not blindly consuming product with a smile and eagerly awaiting more product, that restaurant fails. That's a lesson Disney/Lucasfilm refuses to learn. Give the customer what they want and they remain customers. Try to cram crap down their throats that they don't want and they let you crash and burn.
