What's different?
The most obvious difference is 4 players instead 6, and when all 4 are playing they team up. Take a wild guess as to why?
The Allspark rule (which I thought was kind of hidden in the rules) states when you play one of the cards for whatever reason the territory on the card grants the holder of said territory a bonus of 3 robots to that territory. Pretty nice and actually changed the strategy of when to play the card, or if you should even play it.
There are 2 choices to play the card for: Game text to change the active rules or rotate/slide territories.
Territories can be slid open or closed to grant bonus robots at the beginning of your turn; or can be rotated to close off/change neighboring zones.
The biggest difference is multiple methods of game play: traditional risk (w/ limited resources I think) or you conquer Cybertron in a 6 day peoriod.
1st: The board w/ the factories closed. These zones do not count when closed and you don't get additional armies for them.
2nd: The board w/ the factories open. These zones do count towards collecting armies AND gives you bonus troops if you have robots in it (to a max of 3).
3rd: The robot troops. The robot mode counts as one, the vehicle cannon counts as 3. When your leader dies it costs 3 robots to bring him back.
4th: The Leaders in robot mode and the corresponding cards. The cards state special rules for the leader when in robot mode.
5th: The Leaders in vehicle mode and the corresponding cards. The cards give a different special rule for the leader when in vehicle mode.

I chose Megatron, my friend picked Prime.
The game is relatively short, with only 6 rounds. But it makes the game a lot better I think.
Anyway, the other difference is that leader figures roll D8 die instead of the D6 dies.
Other than that, I lost, big time, I figured Megatron's power would be awesome. But unfortunately, I ended up losing every time I attacked with Megatron. Megatron vs one lone autobot soldier, you'd think Megatron would waste him, right? Wrong. Lost every time, save for one fight.
Oh yeah, at the end of the round, you flip over a card, whichever zone is featured on the card, thats where the Allspark is located, and whoever owns the spot gets 3 extra troops.
All in all, it is a fun game.

Consider the fact that he can travel ANYWHERE on the board? Thats pretty awesome. The down side is he has to attack alone.

You'd think the D8 would give a better chance at winning but sometimes the dice are against you. I was not aware of the card flipping at the end of the turn. Perhaps thats how it's done instead of how we did it. We got the bonus troops whenever we played a card during the turn.

It would be cool if an expansion was releases where the character leaders were expanded...and more troops to use. And not just 1s and 3s but also 5s and 10s.
Uncrazzimatic wrote:I know this is nit picking but I don't really like the way some locations have been moved around from the map in the ultimate guide. http://hometown.aol.com/zacwilliam1/CyberAtlas.html May pass on this one.
I've noticed there were a lot of differences such as misspelled names (but not on the board appaarently), unused locations, misused locations (like Unicron), etc. etc.
