Personally, my movie Starscream itch would be satisfied by someone doing a clay impression of the HFTD Leader's head and sending it to me so I can fabricate a head for mine.

And Helicopter Dropkick is actually pretty good IMO - it’s not a good Dropkick at all (and since Studio Series is all about screen accuracy I see why people don’t like it), but as a generic Decepticon I think it’s actually pretty cool!

I'm with you on Heli-kick. Solid generic con, with a fun transformation. I simply like how they got a reasonably normal width bot out of such a skinny helicopter.

I still wonder why they dropped the ball on that figure, considering the standard that the line had set.
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on April 23rd, 2020 @ 3:12am CDT
Or, for that matter, Dropkick from the first movie?ZeroWolf wrote:Would people had been more welcoming to Heli-kick if he just been marketed as a con, perhaps a troop builder candidate like Dreadwind from the first movie line?
Probably a combination of triple-changing not getting along with the movie aesthetic, trying to hide the car kibble in the copter mode being a new curveball even by movie line standards, and deadlines.ZeroWolf wrote:I still wonder why they dropped the ball on that figure, considering the standard that the line had set.

No, you dont disagree. I'm an idiot who got the figures confused.....

Deadput wrote:It's also partially due to Dropkick being based off earlier concept art which is somewhere on the net to see much like how the first SS Bee movie Bee had aspects from his earlier design such as the door wings.
Also this.
First go of Dropkick and Bee suffered from changed character models. If they had done car Dropkick first, they probably would have had a better chance of getting it right, but also considering the first go for all 3 main Bee movie bots didn't really do too well, it might be for the best.
They need to give helicopter Dropkick another go, incorporate the now known car kibble into it.
Also, just realized that Offroad Bee is also not movie accurate: the actual movie model had door wings, and this one does not

ZeroWolf wrote:So he lost the car wings from the jeep to the beetle? What was the directors idea again behind losing the wings?
Yeah if you watch that opening scene, he has jeep wing, they're just angled down instead of up like the other movies.
for the beetle Bee, he folded the wings down to make him more round and compact and softer looking, I believe is the quote.

ZeroWolf wrote:So he lost the car wings from the jeep to the beetle? What was the directors idea again behind losing the wings?
Bumblebee has wings on both designs, both facing down although on the VW Design it is more folded in on the back compared to the Jeep Bee having them simply hang down.
I think it was about making Bee more humanoid and such for reasons I forget.

Exactly. Even Hasbro could shoulder some blame as they okayed everything still.

Some of them. Although they also insisted on some important good things. Yes, the "experts" at Paramount actually tried to do away with that

I like this figure, but it really drives home how this line (in my opinion) is the greatest argument for taking scale and throwing it out the window. The figure is just too small. Needs to be bigger, and scale be damned.

This is how I feel about Jazz. It's a good figure, but I only got him because there was a "buy one get one half off" sale and they had Ironhide. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have picked him up. Though, I have felt that a lot of SS figures have been a bit on the smaller side, even compared to Siege and Earthrise

Whoa, that does look awesome! I'm glad I have all those guys, and the price seems really good. I think I'll be pre-ordering, thanks for the link! I really like that they included Bee's rocket launchers and Blackout's chest gun in particular.
I've been messing around with WWII Hot Rod and I really like how he looks with Bee. The mold's honestly really grown on me - it has its flaws but it's still fun! Makes me wish we had some more WWII Transformers, kinda like what we saw in the concepts for that Operation: Skyfire movie.
I've also added WWII Bee to my Studio Series customs thread - Jazz and Ironhide are coming soon!

I am getting the kit, so I can have a great Sentinel with all his weapons, and for Bee to be complete. I am not using the Blackout parts, those are going to a friend

D-Maximal_Primal wrote:If anything, that kit brings up an important thing that most people seem to forget: Bumblebee had some wicked shoulder cannons in the 1st movie that never really showed up again. Those were cool, and he needed to have those show up more. and most toys completely forget about it (the MPM should have had them too).

I agree on the shoulder launchers - with the recent increase in accessories I’m sure if MPM-3 was released today it would’ve included the launchers - I did see some sweet looking custom ones online somewhere a while ago, I hope some 3P makes some.
I have a hunch that a future slight remold of SS-49 will include them, it could be an ROTF version since he does have them (although only for about 1 second) in the factory save right before the forest battle.

They instead incorporated their firepower to boost Bee's plasma cannon even more

What's interesting is that the ones in that ROTF shot look bulked-up compared to the ones from the '07 movie.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:I would be OK with an RotF Bee in both SS and MPM that had the shoulder launchers. He needs those dangit!
I'd love to work them into Battle Blade Bumblebee if possible.

5 out of 8. Only bad thing is that Long Haul has some flash or chips on his right knee cap and stress marks on left side peg holes of the truck bed (really having problems transforming that part). No biggie, really.
To you folks having problems, Scavenger is easily posed... once you find that (tight) swivel under the shoulder ratchet. That makes the arms face forward making it easier to get that tripod stance. Shoulder ratchet, swivel below, double hinged elbow, and hinged wrist.

I do think Scavenger is better. Shockwave is a great toy that looks like he walked right off the screen, but Scavenger feels beefier, more dense, has a really cool transformation and great alt mode, and even combines. He feels like he belongs at the $50 price point
