Video Review of Studio Series ROTB Airazor

He looks like he's having a lot of fun with them Both Air Razor toys are looking pretty good to me, do we have a price difference between them yet?

If this Airazor is really sold as a deluxe, it would be amazing because it would be like if the old deluxe size is finally back. It will be sold at current year price, but I'll take the little win that I can get.

Looking forward to a Terrorcon recolor, but would also be interested if the released her on her 90s transmetal colors. Same with Cheetor.

Although, considering we're getting Airazor, Cheetor, and Rhinox, I'd love Armada repaints to put on my Unicron shelf (and AoE Strafe for Terrorsaur?), but that seems very far-fetched.

I'm still just waiting for orders to open up for the Deluxe ROTB version we first saw leaked. The SS is fine and certainly more screen accurate, but I want the other one more.

Well see regarding screen accuracy. The one shot we get of airazor in the trailer makes the bird mode look more like the previous one. But we'll see what the bot mode looks like

Oh I love that. I really like where they went aesthetically with the beasts in this movie.

As with Airazor, most characters in the upcoming Rise of the Beasts film will get toys in both the Rise of the Beasts toyline and the Studio Series toyline (for more info on that, click here). Now we have our first look at Studio Series voyager class Cheetor. As you can see below, it borrows nothing from his Kingdom counterpart and is a fully new mold with a design harkening back to Beast Machines. This toy will be up for preorder later today. These images come from Amazon Australia.

I really don't like those obvious robot hands in beast mode. With all that voyager class budget, they could have found a way to hide them better.

Yowch on Generictor, maybe a repaint with that thing...erm...whatcha call it...colors, might help. Though it still has its square head.

Think I'm prefering the non studio series figures looks so far and definitley another tick to not see the film.

I agree this figure looks GOOD. i plan to get all of the beasts, so I'm a bit different there!

his robot head is very autobot symbol-ish. I think he looks good, but the drab mono colors really hurt.

Doesn't really feel like Cheetor. I complain when Bumblebee gets more annoying than he was in G1 but Cheetor is SUPPOSED to be annoying. This character will probably be competent. And he has a very- mature- build. Personally I like the mainline version better, as with Airazor. I don't know why they keep ruining the design if the pre-concepts look fine, I don't know why they have to get a perfect design just to fix ruin it in the actual movie.

It's to match the look of the film which went for monochrome drab on the beasts

I'm really not feeling the beast toys, specially the Studio Series ones. The ROTB ones at least seem to have more interesting transformations. What little I've seen in the trailer hasn't really won me over either, honestly. I hope the movie comes out and I get to eat my words and really enjoy the Maximal's look onscreen, but I'm not very optimistic at this point. A shame, Beastformers are usually my favourite type of transformers, but these are just not hitting it for me.

That design is certainly a choice for this new Cheetor.

Though, I definitely wouldn't call it Beast Machines-inspired, not in shape or color:






If it's the blend of organic and mechanical that evokes a technorganic look, that kind of visual blending goes all the way back to the Transmetals, both 1 and 2. Or even further back to some of the Pretenders of 1988/1989.

I do love how Cheetor takes some cues from multiple bodies of his. That head has some Transtech in it; the transformation looks to use BM, TMI, and TMII in it, while he sticks somewhat close to his original body cheetah mode.

I just think the blend of so many styles into him to make him feel so fresh and new while looking great are neat.

I have adored the SS figures so far, they have a lot more of that technical detail that I always love and wish we would see more of.

The RotB toyline ones look great too, and I appreciate how both lines are sort of similar but also very different, almost like AOE Dinobots and SS Grimlock style. I appreciate it.

I'd argue that the Pretenders were more like "suited up" monsters or even Cyborgs, with a separation if you will between the angular mechanical and the curvy organic parts. The Transmetals has a clear separation between the two: mechanical Beast Mode, (semi-)organic Robot Mode (except figures like Terrorsaur). The Transmetals II I'll give you, but they also had the monstrous asymmetry as a form of being "unbalanced", and balanced blending was a key point in Beast Machines designs.

Mind you, the original Movie-verse designs already had that organic thing going, though the pieces of their alternate modes largely hide that.

Maybe not colour, but transformation, yes. Of all the cheetor toys of old, this new one follows the beast machines one more than the others where the the cheetah stands up and replaces its head. And I see similarities in the shape for sure, with the shoulders and the parts where the cheetah spots are placed on the robot mode. even in alt ode I see the similarity, with the sleek cheetah type body retaining an organic colour scheme but with techonological components too. Cheetor's Transmetal designs were far removed from the organic cheetah design, either being fully robotic or becoming less cheetah like. When it comes to toys, Beast machines was the only time where we finally saw him with cheetah spots in alt mode along with mechanical components.

I get Transmetal 2 Cheetor vibes from this figure. I wish he had his gun. But those Spears are kind of cool

That face makes it seem like he will be older in personality. I could see this working better in a white tiger deco and be called Tigatron.

I think being a pessimist is the best way to go into a film like this, we can only be pleasantly surprised or vindicated, and never disappointed. The beasts will be drab, in both modes, as we saw with primal in the trailer at the end. They are meant for a more earthy, older, rustic look. So tan and monochrome is the name of the game here. All four will be a variation of rusty brown in bot mode, kinda like how all the dinobots in AOE all went for a similar look and were not colour coded (unlike the fruit loops coloured toys).

I'm excited on a toy front though as I love beast formers and we will get 2 new toys for each beast character, making it another cool rendition of the characters in my collection. And it will be fun to see the shelves filled with these beast wars characters.

I just noticed that SS Cheetor's bot mode chest is supposed to be the cheetah head flattened.

Yeah, the biggest thing for me is the lack of interesting silhouettes and transformations, and the silhouette thing seems to have affected the vehicular cast too.

I am glad that beastformers will be introduced to a new generation, as they were my entry point to transformers and one of my favourite bits of the concept. It's also nice that there'll be two slightly different versions, so they'll cater to different tastes. But for me, personally, these just don't hit the mark. The designs feel too safe and too bland in my eyes.

there is a big gap in between the cheetah head in the film, so if you flatten it, you end up with the design on the chest, with the eyes being those nipple slits.

1120 of waiting for Transformers Armada Masterpiece news.

I feel like this design has more of a reformatted Tigatron feel over Cheetor. If (and when) I get the beast figures from SS and ROTB, I think I’ll just be repurposing them as characters on post-Reformatting Cybertron. That’ll add some flair to the shelf!

Not feeling the ROTB line. Looks like I'll be saving some money!

The beast machines transformation is too lazy. Pretty must just standing up. Beast wars at least has a little variety.

I like the "pre designs". The Airazor looked especially great, but the studio series version transforms into something resembling a vulture. And why the green highlights.
Also that head sculpt (I though the alternate mainline head sculpt actually looks good)

At the end of the day, the best we'll get is some more tooling for the trans metals

For those of you who like the transformation, look what I just noticed

IDR exactly what the term "chewed caramels" was originally targeted at, but that's what this beast mode brings to mind. I get that the beasts are supposed to be drab, even rusty, but casting him in that particular shade of plastic just conjures up bad memories from the '90s of multiple Batman toys that just screamed out: "WHY?"

And sculpting a ton of details that don't end up getting the paint wash they deserve is a proud Beast Wars tradition, so this Cheetor does honor his roots. But there's so much awesome here that just doesn't register at a glance...maybe Hasbro has some kind of stake in dry-erase markers, and they're counting on boosting sales by inspiring more collectors than ever to try their hand at making this sculpt pop?
