Thanks to an ebay auction we now have robot-mode images of the upcoming BotCon exclusive Octopunch.
Octopunch is based on the G1 Pretender of the same name, as you can see he's based on the HFTD Seaspray mold, and does not feature a new head. Oh and do you notice how the faction symbol is red, which means he's Shattered Glass? Well, congrats to those who spotted that back with the first image we saw of him.
You can click any of the following images to get to the original auction.

Start now please.
Just a thought, but do Lego C-clips fit the 3mm posts? It could be easy enough to knock something up with the right pieces if that connection matches up.
I like that idea, but it wouldn't be expensive now would it?
Oh, he looks nice, but he's SG, so I'm not really interested.

I'm surprised it's shattered glass. The colours are fairly accurate to his G1 self.
Not as excited as I was when first seeing the mold, but he'll be a welcome addition to my collection nonetheless.

You know, this makes Octopunch the second to keep his colors between his original continuity and Shattered Glass, the first being Jazz.

This is really pathetic. I mean he looks barely any different from Seaspray. It looks like some lazy custom someone threw together in one night.

Right, forgot about Megatron and Galvatron, but the repurposed toys I don't care about. Thundercracker's debatable, since G1 Thundercracker's mutated neon colors are SG Thundercracker's standard colors. Who wants to bet SG Thundercracker turns blue after the Forestonite treatments?

Though, I also forgot to mention Ratchet.

There's already a Shattered Glass Submarauder. He's a Micromaster (Mini-con redeco toy, though).RiddlerJ wrote:If they wanted to do a Decepticon Pretender, I think Submarauder or Finback would've been better since they transformed into aquatic vehicles. There is nothing here in either mode that really connects to Octopunch.

Looks like this years sets gonna be cheap to pick up on ebay after the con it seems.
As for last years thundercracker, he is done in the Actionmaster Euro exclusive deco that came with a exo suit\jet which you guys in the 'States never got, same with Slicer who originally came with a battery operated chariot/exosuit. Got my boxed one signed by the voice actor round here some where.

nah, between blind faithing fanboys and a market that is use to elevated prices, it won't change.

FracturedKoi wrote:Am I the only one here who's getting tired of shattered glass? One botcon of it was enough, lets move along now. I'd honestly be okay with an octopunch figure, even a straight repaint of seaspray, but why shattered glass?
Jeez what an upset for most fans it seems on Octopunch. My true Seaspray is iGear's cuz I couldn't get over that lame HFTD rep. But Deep Dive was awesome for this mold and he's just bad-ass transporting Hailstorm in alt mode.
IMO it has been a hit and miss with this years BOTCON set but better to have figures that are SG and classics/generations molds than another crappy Animated set like last years. Knowing my luck now watch next years be Animated molds again so there it is. But I can't imagine what this Octopunch will go for in price but I wouldn't give 2 bits for this...'nuff said!

El Duque wrote:I'm not too bothered by him being a SG character since he retains his G1 colors, and while I would have preferred a new head sculpt this one still works. In fact I would say HFTD Sea Spray's head looks more like an updated Octopunch head than it does an updated Seaspray head. I have no idea how whoever designed that tentacle deco didn't see the ducks! Now it's all I can see.
I'm a bit dissaponted that we aren't getting a new head sculpt as well but I do love the deco. I like this color pallet on him better than that of HFTD Seaspray.

I agree that Finback or Submaurader would have been better choices for this mold.
Weak Botcon year. The irony is that Botcon hyped these figures two months ago saying that this would be the best year yet. What happened?

Maybe they were just really into the awesomness that are the molds of most of the figures.

1. Screw the SG concept, the red con sign matches the other parts of his body that are red nicely. There is always reprolabels if the red is too bright. Sounds like the same people that complained about Generations Thrust having grey con signs to match his grey wings.
2. Yall act like a 3rd party company wont make a new head for this figure ?
3. I cant remember anyone on this site calling for a classics Octopunch in 3 years, but when we get one, everybody has a complaint like if they gave any input to TFCC on this figure.
Just my two cents. Sorry if I sound harsh.

Yeah 'cause third parties go out of their way to release new heads for BotCon figures, just look at..
Oh yeah, there's nothing.

What if a 3rd party were to simply make a diving helmet to go over his head...would that suffice most of you?

Ungie wrote:Im starting to land on the side of "This set is actually worse than the Stunticon Job set from last year... and it was Animated!" like Its a really good concept but poor mold choices and the whole SG thing is just weak unless SG becomes an actual main-line thing, which it then wouldn't be so bad to spend through the nose prices for them.
I'd agree with you, but the Stunticon set was probably one of the best sets released aside from Dawn of Future's Past and the original Shattered Glass box set.
But like you said, this year's set kind of sucks. I'm really looking forward to the Insecticon colored Junkions as well as SG Swindle. However, if the SG Junkions all have the same head sculpt, I probably won't get them.

I think smaller 3rd party companies like Renderform, Dr. Wu, and Maiden Japan are fully capable of capitalizing off of a small group of elite whiners who want a new $25 new bead for their Octopunch. But I think a helmet would make his head look too big, rather see a new head sculpt.
