So good. I want to see a shot of the back though. I'm also surprised the parade of digibashes haven't started yet.

Although, I must admit, considering he isn’t a parts former of a robot in armour…he looks rather…kibbly and broken up? Not sure if you can see what I mean.
For those hailing the cartoon accuracy (those using it as means to shoot down those of us that wanted inner robot in armour) when did he ever have what appears to be a very short cape?
To weigh in on why I’d prefer MP Magnus to be a white Prime in armour (which I thought was a good question, presented rather politely); Play and display value. (excuse some of the mess, have some Kit-bash fodder lying around…):
(I realise some of these configurations are not completely accurate to the powered convoy ones…I did this real quick…) I mean, imagine all these options at Masterpiece scale!
And I can’t be the only one that arranges my ‘adult collectables’ in displays like this?:
I mean, I know non of us are 8 anymore, but c’mon, fun play and display options were what MP-10 was about…I guess I was just hoping MP-22 would have the same spirit.
To tackle TimothyR ,not quoted for (relative) shortness; This kind of reasoning and nonsense bothers me. You would honestly want toys to be restricted by a cartoon that didn’t know it’s own head from it’s own arse? Season 3 had no concept of continuity (visual or written), and to say ‘it never happened in the cartoon’ whilst true, again isn’t concrete. Rodimus was never Hot-Rod slotted into a trailer, oh except that one episode where people over at Akom felt it needless to follow the characters model. Yet MP-09 exists. Rodimus never split from his trailer to form a base, but I’m glad MP-09 took from the toy on that aspect. It’s fun, and adds options. Even MP-10 has options taken from the toy that were never used (or needed) in the show. Roller and the trailer base were akin to AI, they don’t need a pilot, but to respect the toy and have some fun the seats for Spike were added.
So it was never seen in official fiction, big whoop. I suppose you carry a cross and a vile of Holy water just in case you are subjected to an image of the MP datsuns sporting the toy accurate shoulder launchers from Amazon. Some of us enjoy flexibility in toys and display pieces.
I don’t think a white Prime in armour would have ruined the aesthetic of the final Magnus Bot that much. He would still look like the cartoon, with good design and engineering which I have no doubt TT are capable of. The biggest bane would be partsforming, which usually bothers me too but Magnus will always be an exception for me, if and when offered. This view on what Magnus ‘should be’ based on his fiction appearances is yours, and worthy of respect. What’s troublesome is your post doesn’t afford the other side of the fence the same respect and courtesy.
This was always going to be a decision split right down the middle. TT made their choice and this time the winning side wasn’t mine. Even after not getting what I want, you don’t see me or the others being rude and insisting the other side is wrong due to ‘facts’ buried in relativity and pedantry.
Despite all this, it looks damn good! Can’t wait to see it in his colours. I definetly want one, Magnus is too awesome not to own! I love animated and both TF: Prime incarnations for breaking from the ‘white Prime in armour’ concept…but I hoped a ‘perfect’ G1 Magnus would incorporate it. Just different ideals, that’s all it is. Like I said, one side was always destined to ‘loose’. Given how good this looks…it’s not much of a loss. But for me, a part of me is disappointed.
If I feel rich enough maybe one day I’ll buy a second and attempt a kit bash…

I'm pleasantly surprised that Takara didn't go with the "parts-former" approach. I like the fact that in the cartoon, my favourite character, Optimus Prime, doesn't share a character design with other Transformers. No white Convoy, no Nemesis Prime.. none of that stuff, he's completely unique. Likewise, Ultra Magnus.
I do like that they have the same cab model in truck mode though, it was a nice reference to Prime when he was written off; and it also kind of adds to the premise that they go way back. (and Takara matched it perfectly.)
Basically, this toy hits the nail right on the head for you. Good for you! This is what I like to see
MP-09's execution was a bane for some, but to me it's perfect! I now have the tables turned on me

I have a problem with his apparent lack of lateral shoulder articulation. Also, as they've gone for toy accuracy, his thighs are disproportionately short.
Eh, I'm not sure about the shoulder articulation. The shoulder could easily swivel outwards with a universal joint inside the shoulder pad. Too much to speculate from a few blurry pics of a prototype.
Now the new pic is available I can see that he does have some sort of shoulder articulation. With that amount of shoulder kibble he won't have much though. I may have to await a Hasbro release for this one.

I have to say I'm slightly disappointed in the lack of an inner white robot, but not enough to consider not buying it. It was a cool feature of the original toy, but regardless of what their given reason are, I'm sure it would result in a lot of fragile parts and could even perhaps increase the cost of the figure. I'd rather see an MP Magnus that looks almost like he jumped out of the cartoon than an expensive, bulky, fragile version just so he can have the white inner robot.
The back kibble is weird, I wonder why they couldn't figure out a way to fold that up? Same deal with Bumblebee, I suppose. Another thing that looks like it could be lacking is elbow articulation. But I'm not sure what they could do with that much chunky armor.
Otherwise, that head sculpt is amazing and he just looks so great overall. I can't wait to have him on my shelf next to Prime!

UM's been in the pipeline for sometime way before the UM story arc. Given that Tomy has already milked the DW take on the "white Convoy" being Prime's brother (in arms or cybernetically) + the nostalgia of the G1 series..........doubt they'd have attempted it.

That's what I figured, too. I just hope that they have the Dr Wu Partners level of detail, and not MP-10 Spike's level of detail.

Do we even know for sure the cab transforms? As in, into a proper, stand-alone robot?

Hi - We have just learned more about the pricing of the MP-22 Ultra Magnus. The figure is set to sell in Japan for 19,440 yen retail. We have adjusted your preorder from $279.99 down to $189.99! Please note that the official solicitation has not yet been sent out from Takara, and the 19440 Yen retail price is subject to change. If the retail price goes up, we will need to adjust our pricing up proportionally, but we hope that will not be the case. Thanks so much for preordering from BBTS and we can't wait for the MP-22 to arrive!
Thanks!

It honestly doesn't seem likely. This new info states 'totally new mold item'. That can be read to mean it's all new, which omits an MP 10 repaint. 2 out of 3 translations of the magazine scan state no cab robot, and the article goes to length to describe the cab 'shares parts with MP-10' like the grill and tires etc. If it was MP 10, it's a no brainer it would share parts . That plus scrutinising the pics suggests no inner robot from the cab...
Although...
This here does say it does not 'need' to detach to transform. Maybe the cab 'can' detach if you want to, but is not a requirement to get him to Ultra Magnus mode. Maybe the cab can turn into a robot of some sort, but isn't an MP-10 repaint. Maybe I'm a little obsessed with this topic now and need a good walk in the sun...
I'm leaning toward it having no inner cab robot from what we have so far. But admittedly what we have is very little, so who knows. I mean, why alternate fists? Who saw that coming?

Sabrblade wrote:@hinomars19 - I think you're mistaking me for things said and asked by Doctor McGrath and TimothyR. All I've said was some clarity on the Japanese text and noting the cartoon-focused nature of the MP line. The other two were asking (out of innocent curiosity, in Doctor McGrath's case) about why folks want a White Prime and (in TimothyR's case) defending the show-accurate nature of this figure. I was doing neither.
Ahh, then you most certainly deserve an apology. It was indeed TimothyR's comment I was referring to, the quote headers got me confused as one of your posts was in there. Not an easy mistake to make given I know how the layouts of quoting work (not like I'm a newbie here), so there is no excuse-I apologise! I'm usually much more careful, but I will be doubly so from now. (I'll also edit my original post)
Sorry again, especially since the mix up was over such a harsh backlash!
On that note, defending the show accurate nature of the figure is certainly not a problem to me. I just didn't feel right about the way TimothyR's comment went about it.
Again, sorry Sabrblade.

Anyway, MP Magnus news is good. Not sure why he needs two sets of fists, can anybody think of a scene where something weird/different happened to his hands?
I also like the fact that he will probably come with spacesuit Spike and Daniel. I'm guessing the Spike that comes with Bumblebee will not be removeable from the Exosuit, so these figures will give alternate display options. Also, MP Rodimus never came with a Daniel figure like I thought he should, so we'll finally be able to recreate that famous beginning scene from the movie. It would also be really smart of Takara to make it so they can both sit in Magnus' cab. I might just repurpose the MP-10 Spike as Sparkplug instead. Except his shirt is wrong, but whatever.

next.. look at the magnus robot mode.. look at the waist, there's clearly no inner robot there.
as of now, going off of the majority of the translations and the visual evidence.. you've got to come to the conclusion/the realization that there is no inner robot mode.
for me that's perfectly fine.. he was never like that in the show why in the world would he have an inner white magnus for the masterpiece version?
i do quite enjoy parts-formers.. but i enjoy accuracy more.. so, this is perfect for me.

UM comes with a spike and daniel. assuming theyll be the same scale as spike from MP10. so does anyone know if the MP10 spike fits in MP09 hotrod, meaning MP22's daniel will fit in hotrod?
sorry if this question made anyone cross eyed

While the evidence does suggest that, until we see more from TT or in hand images, I won't be forming any conclusion.
And as they just said, you "don't need to remove the cab to transform him into robot mode" ... It's a bit of a stretch but I and my 10 year old self will continue to hold out that little bit of hope.

Well, he's already got articulated fingers so he can point. I guess maybe they might have an addition set of hands with more articulation, but I can't see why they'd do that instead of just building that articulation into the first pair.

Haha, well yes, I was joking. He can indeed point with these hands. My only guess right now would be...a fixed pose pair more suitable for holding a Matrix? Until we know more about what this toy does, it's the only thing I can think of logically at this point.
