When translated, the tweet states that the images were published today (Thursday in Japan) in Figure King Magazine #277.
Now that we have our first clear look at the figure, what are you thinking? Is Skids now a must have? Holding out for the (inevitable) retool into Crosscut? Let us know what you think of these images below!

Agreed.
Is it wrong that I'm more interested in what re-deco's this will be released in?

Well, the tyres size & hubcaps styling do match, I guess due to the shoulder transformation those front tyres need to be molded with those holes needed for production. But since tyres tend to be black, those holes should not be too obvious when that part is molded/painted in black. Still weird though.
If Takara REALLY want to put in the effort, the designer can easily make an additional frisbee-shaped part that looks like the tyre, and use those 2 holes to friction tab the frisbee part in to make it perfect looking.

here here! this is a breath of fresh air imho. the over engineering and lack of detail (and the massive cost as a result) on the more recent mp's had been turning me off to them. the second series mps (starting from mp10) were to me the much more definitive "masterpiece" giving a perfect fusion of the original toy and it's appearance in the cartoon, while still being fun and "play-with-able" this to me looks like what a masterpiece Skids should be. Some issues though for sure, but for me he is a step back in the right direction.
Just my opinion

Now we just need MP Mirage. Seriously, what's been the holdup on him?
My guess is locating the license. Unlike other manufacturers, Ligier isn't active in the consumer automotive market, rather it was primarily active in motorsports and now in commercial vehicles and open-air sports. Then there's the (cigarette) advertising, and we all know how that went with Exhaust...No.sol magnus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Maybe the faux cigarette company sponsor logos on his sides are making HasTak hesitant.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Now we just need MP Mirage. Did they make a Trailbreaker I'm not aware of?
Should have explained further.
I have an association built in my head between Delta Magnus, Road Rage, Crosscut, Wheeljack, and Mirage because in the Diaclone Powered Convoy commercial, the Car Robots on the featured Powered Convoy's trailer are the Corvette, the Honda City-R, the "Alitalla" version of the Lancia Stratos, and the Ligier JS-11.
We have Wheeljack, we have Road Rage, we have Delta Magnus. With Skids on the way, Crosscut will soon follow. But we are still missing Mirage.
Hopefully, we'll get him soon, they're out of 85 cars minus Hoist now.

I don't collect MPs but this piece looks really nice and the Marvel G1 comic story "Showdown" featuring Skids is 1 of my favorites so I'll get this figure if it's not outrageously expensive.

Yeah, Skids was meant to be a "Kei car"- a very, very small car meant for cities and the like. In his incredibly few appearances in the cartoon this got mangled as him being a van for...some ridiculous reason. Not even a stylistic choice like penny-racer Bumblebee, they straight up bungled his character model.

As a mini-van, yes, a new concept at the time in 1984. The concept of a sub-compact car was (literally) unheard of. About finding him in the cartoon, he appeared in two episodes and minor roles at that: Quest for Survival and Triple Takeover. His lack of proper appearances in the cartoon would get referenced in the Transformers Legends manga

He's not even in the commercial that introduced ALL the 1985 Autobot cars.

Because he's actually a late-1984 Autobot Car:sol magnus wrote:He's not even in the commercial that introduced ALL the 1985 Autobot cars.
Skids had a somewhat odd release history: Because he was not one of the original eleven Autobot Cars released at the line's inception, he is commonly grouped in with the later 1985 Autobot Cars both fictionally and in the minds of fans. However, Skids was actually added to the 1984 Autobot Cars assortment (taking the place of a second Mirage in a case of twelve) very late in the year (December 1984 is the current earliest confirmed availability of the figure), during which time he came in 1984 packaging including a ™ mark by the "Transformers" logo, rather than an ® mark. Like the other 1984 cars, at least some of these early Skids releases lacked the rubsign on the roof that would later be added to all Transformers toys in 1985.[1] Presumably due to this early release, he got the short end of the stick in 1985: That year, the "Autobot Cars" price point was divided into two separate assortments, each of which contained six of the figures that had debuted in 1984 (packaged one per case in a case of 12) and three of the new figures that debuted in 1985 (packaged two per case). Since Hasbro apparently considered Skids a 1984 release, he ended up being packaged only one per case, thus making him somewhat more rare than his peers.
As Skids was released in the interim between the original 1984 launch and the big push of new 1985 figures, the character consequently fell by the wayside in the Generation 1 fiction of the 1980s. He was not included in the commercial promoting the new 1985 range of Autobot Cars, as he wasn't technically part of it. Similarly, he was also left out of the list of new 1985 product in the Generation 1 cartoon's production bible intended for inclusion in the show's second season, and as such, only managed to appear in little more than cameo roles in just two episodes, speaking one line in each and voiced by a different actor each time. He fared a little better in the Marvel comics, debuting alongside (an incomplete roster of) the other 1985 cars, but after getting an issue dedicated to himself, he all but completely vanished from the book and was banished to limbo by the UK comic for upwards of 100 issues, abandoned and forgotten.

Nice trivia. Skids is so abandoned I couldn't be bothered to read his TFwiki bio. For his neglect all these years they should have put in WFC, but I'm sure they don't think of it that way.

Tho... I can see TakaraTomy being cheeky and have "Reboost" come with a red Skids head to switch out and extra stickers.

This time, it shows the upcoming Masterpiece Skids, alongside a previously unknown redeco of the figure!
The red figure seems to be reference to a colour scheme that the toy, that would become Skids, had in one of his Diaclone releases.
Sabrblade points out that the word "Reboost" appears a few times in the accompanying text, but it's unknown a this junction if that is the name that will be given to this release.
What do you think of this new reveal? Looking forward to seeing Skids on your shelf?

Mudflap has been homaged with a G1 Skids redeco (technically the Crosscut version of the mold) (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Screech_(Generations)), but that deco was distinct from the Diaclone one being homaged here. That being said, Mudflap could be a viable name for the upcoming figure, as I don't think it's been done as a TF before. Although the vehicle mode wouldn't have any mudflaps. Not that that's stopped the name being used in the past.

No way, Armada deserves its own original molds, not being an afterthought of G1-centric molds all the time. Plus, Red Alert would at least require a remolded hand/arm, and a light bar. But honestly I wouldn't be happy with it unless it also had the gun, a mini-con, and chest weapon too.

And while Skids is certainly a value at that price while including his two guns, don't wright off Reboost and his enticing pack of accessories including three weapons, a clear holomatter driver and a "Component X" Honda Motocompo compact scooter that can fit in the back of his Honda City alt mode just like the original Diaclone! If you didn't care about Reboost before this attention to detail might change your mind.
