Thanks to a Facebook post by Transformers author Jim Sorenson, we have some interesting news to bring to you. It seems that a potential redeco of the Seeker mold, which went as far as having box art created, has had a name all along. Fembots and gentlebots, say hello to....
....G2 Blackout! The name of a G1 Micromaster, several Minicons in the Unicron Trilogy, and a Decepticon in Animated, the name has probably most notably been applied to a Decepticon who was the first Transformer to appear in the live-action movie continuity.
G2 Blackout got as far as having packaging art made, and even having an assortment number, as this photo shows. Whether or not this packaging art was meant to represent the toy referred to as "Black Death Starscream" is unknown, but feel free to speculate away below!

Also funny that both names were coincidentally used on helicopters.

I uh am very excited to have more Seekers for my head canon universe and will now write a short character story for him.
Blackout started life as another of the mass produced Seeker templates as opposed to an individual who volunteered or was forced to be placed in a Seeker shell, Blackout served as an Officer in the typically black armored Phantomsky Seekurity forces division which would also be source of notable future Decepticons like Cadet Skywarp or Captain Ramjet.
He was among the first Seekers who were swayed to Megatron's cause and thus was granted a high position in the war becoming one of Megatron's most trusted Officers, however negative history with the newly appointed Sky Commander Starscream drove Blackout to trade his Seeker body for a bigger VTOL-type frame, trading agility for power Blackout joined Soundwave's secret spy network and was taught how to manipulate sonic waves with his weaponry and interface software, making him both a powerful combatant and a potent hacker.
So boom my "G1 Blackout" is both a Seeker and a G1-vised Movie character, similar to how in my head-canon Sandstorm started off as a Seeker but defected to the Autobots after being turned into a triple-changer.

Great scott, this deserves a round of applause!

Oh wow, that's basically been my headcanon for the Seekers in G1-ish continuities, a combination of already-living Cybertronians being transferred to a Seeker body (willingly or otherwise) and new sparks being protoformed into the Seeker template. Cool that someone else was thinking on the same wavelength!

Thanks, cool to see that people like the idea and have thought something similar.
I kinda have a head canon for different body types and such in my TF universe, there are several stock body types whether they be a standard civilian form (Bumblebee/Cliffjumper type) or serve a specific role such as Seekers or the Datsun (Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen) bodytype which is the base used for Autotrooper security forces based in Praxus.
So while all Transformers are placed in shells and can be swapped around in different bodies with careful procedures, some are placed in templates like the above while others have unique bodies which are provided by custom builders like Wheeljack or are specific military prototypes/weapons like Overlord.
This does remind me of the Coneheads got a short story for them as well, the Conehead procedure is done to Seekers who have brought dishonor or are criminals, for example the 3 Conheads we know would have different reasons for being turned into Coneheads. Dirge being a serial killer, Thrust have fled from battle and Ramjet lied to Megatron about a failed operation.
I imagine something similar happened to Sandstorm since he's based off the Ramjet mold and probable effected his decision to join the Autobots.
I gotta write all this down sometime and place it in the creative section.

The above photo are 6 unused Seeker colour schemes from the excellent Legacy book.
So that's 3 named now. Sandstorm, Black Out and Nacelle who was based on the picture of Thrust. I'd love them repainted from the Siege mold.
IDW actually showed G2 Ramjet and Actionmaster Thundercracker as separate characters in the background.
Personally, I'd be happy for an official repurpose of G2 Starscream as a different G1 Blitzwing and G2 Ramjet as Slipstream. Before anyone says in their best impression of Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, "No, Blitzwing is a triple changer!", Blackout and Sandstorm already apply to two separate G2 characters along with Flame, Lightspeed, Tracer and several others.
Anyway, always nice to expand the G1 cast, especially among the Seekers. I hope this Blackout doesn't have to wait as long as Seeker Sandstorm to get a toy. He still doesn't have one by the way unless they repurpose Movie Divebomb.

Blitzwing would be quite easy to make them the same character similar to my Blackout story above or the idea that the Autobot Sandstorm was once a Seeker before the war.Windsweeper wrote:Personally, I'd be happy for an official repurpose of G2 Starscream as a different G1 Blitzwing and G2 Ramjet as Slipstream. Make the Seeker bodies their earlier forms while their more well known bodies would be ones they upgraded into.
Blitzwing being a jet already would only need to have a new tank mode installed into him, whether it's a Shockwave experiment or something else, maybe Blitzwing's triple changer body was done to see if a Decepticon with the agility of Starscream (jet) but with the power of Megatron (tank) could be the ultimate Decepticon warrior something like that, there's a lot of ways to make characters who share the same name into one character unless their drastically different in personality/character, Transformers upgrade themselves all the time.
Stuff like G2 Ramjet as Slipstream can work since nothing says that she couldn't be a Conehead at some point.
