The Generations line has seen it's fair share of molds that are used and reused and given several different options for release. Generations Bruticus (and it's five components) are no different. We've seen Onslaught and co. in different color schemes throughout TF history, with their debut in 1986. With the newest incarnation of the Generations line, we see the Combaticons redesigned from top to bottom. No longer WWII vehicles and a space shuttle, now they're Cybertronian vehicles, the likes of which we hadn't seen before. First it was a redesign, then it was a redeco and it's been redecoed several times since. First, a retrospective of sorts...
Since mid 2012, the Generations Bruticus mold has seen various releases and designs:
So far, it's been used to create:
SDCC exclusive Bruticus, of course. (A game accurate deco.) (You can see the full gallery here)
Amazon.com/BBTS.com Generation 2 Bruticus
Retail Bruticus
And now they've been turned into...
Autobot Wrecker Ruination!
And now you can be one step closer to owning Ruination with the four limb robots now available for sale at Hasbro Toy Shop! (Unfortunately, the fifth and final robot, Impactor (based on the Onslaught mold) is currently not available. Please keep checking back on the HTS site so you can order him once he becomes available.)
(NOTE: You can click on any of the images below to be taken to that product's ordering page.)
The Whirl figure is based off of the Vortex mold.
The Topspin figure is based off of the Blast Off mold.
The Twin Twist figure is based off of the Brawl mold.
The Roadbuster figure is based off of the Swindle mold.
And the missing member, Impactor
All figures come with new weapons, new paint decos and newly designed heads. All are priced @ $14.99 and they're available to ship right now @ HTS.com
Can't wait to get the figures, gonna be buying? Check out the pics, links and our Bruticus galleries! Feel free to join the discussion and give us your thoughts and comments.

The only problem I have with these figures is the price creep. It wasn't that long ago when deluxes were about $10. Surely inflation couldn't have happened that fast!
As an aside, the availability - or lack thereof - of figures at HTS is extremely frustrating. When I first searched on HTS for Springer & Blitzwing, they were out of stock, so I had to turn to Amazon at a $3 mark up for each figure. Now, they're back in stock. To top it off, Grimwing & Kickback have been out of stock forever.

I agree about not understanding the hatred for these guys. One, the redecoes are fairly extensive. Two, with the IDW love of late we may yet see some Thrilling 30 versions of some of these guys; most likely Whirl.

Also, am I the only one planning on getting three of each? One will be the combined Ruination for my WfC/FoC/Cybertronian mode shelf. Another combined as "neo-G1" Ruination for my Classics shelf. And a third set to have the separate Wrecker charactes for my Classics shelf. I could omit the third Roadbuster and Whirl, technically. Especially the third Roadbuster. The redecoed Cybertron Hot Shot from Universe 2008 fits the bill nicely. That tiny legends sized Whirl from Classics 2006, though, is due for an upgrade.

Second, I'm gonna say that these Bruticus TF molds grew on me. I thought the G1-classic style release was kind of atrocious... but I guess the complete LACK OF CYBERTRON TF's on store shelves made me re-think my opinion on these. They still look a bit messy as both robot and alt mode (i.e. do NOT flip Swindle around in robot mode - his back is a disaster), but I'm now kind of digging how different these figures feel from the typical TF. They're a bit messy, they're blocky, they're just unconventional and experimental. And I think that's a good thing. Or maybe these molds were made on the cheap, and I should be angry. I don't know.
My opinion on these latest re-releases is that the new heads sell them. Especially Topspin. I'm thinking his head is better than the Bruticus counterpart. Personally, I'm planning on mixing up limbs between the two combiners.
I want to see more Cybertron-era TF's, so I'm buying these just to support the line.

I was going to tell you not to diss Rodimus.... but you're kind of right. I love Hot Rod, and I loathe Rodimus Prime. Why did they ruin his character when the Matrix got handed down to him? It's like they gave a cool kid a big plate of responsibility; time to quit being cool and time to start your boring, depressing adult life as the leader of the Autobots! Woo! Seriously, is there a subliminal message in Rodimus's history about how much it sucks to grow up and get a job?

Those of us opposed to what they have don't don't expect everyone else to understand the "why" behind how we feel and as far as us having expectations bordering on the delusional, we aren't idiots and we aren't crazy... we'll, we aren't idiots at least.
Myself, I never expected a release of an entire Wreckers team. I was expecting maybe to get one or two figures, maybe three, trickled out over a span and yes, I would hope that they would be original molds(hence the "trickled" expectation.) IDW has been doing an amazing job with re-imagining the designs on our classic heroes, in my opinion anyways, and I feel that the re-paint treatment that Hasbro has given these figures is just a slap in the face to the artists currently working on these figures. They work great for the FoC Combaticons, I'm all for that and the folks at High Moon studios should be proud of their creation but I just think Hasbro has insulted the long time Wreckers fans AND the folks at IDW by taking this route. I'd have rather seen fewer Wreckers but have them done right than get one team dropped in my lap that was done lazy. Yeah, they have new heads and new paint but honestly, that was no effort at all when you look at the big picture. Yes, I understand that Hasbro is all about money and that they are going to aim for the demographic that gets them the most $$ and many of us on here are totally not in that demographic. I've preached this very fact dozens of times on here. That doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it though or feel slighted at least a little bit especially since I've been throwing my money into Hasbro's coffers for this line for over 25 years now. I think I've earned (and paid for) the right to be a little pissed off over some of what they do.
Posted by Mindmaster on June 26th, 2013 @ 1:08pm CDT
Though one thing's for sure; I'm sure as hell not combining them in their intended configuration. It was a headache for me to get Bruticus like that then try to get him balanced (even when Bruticus isn't stable to begin with) to see how that configuration would stand. I'll probably switch a part here and there, but that's it. Ruination's just going to be a mirrored Bruticus for me.
Just as I've got my Fall of Cybertron Combaticons as my Generation One Combaticons, I will do the same with these.
Still wish Impactor had his colors reversed.

Yea I actually held out and roadbuster was OOS when I checked out. then roadbuster came back instock for at most 2 mins and I was able to order all 5 with a promo code. Feel so lucky.

Tee-hee. Your one of those people who shoehorns unrelated figures into your collection because Hasbro screwed you out of a CHUG release. There is another guy around here that does that too. Can't remeber his name right off hand, but you guys should get together. I'd wager you'd have a beautiful bromance over your love of geewun modern figures!

If you're going that route, go for the Takara version. Most likely cheaper or around the same price (and much easier to track down) and waaaaay worth it. It makes the SDCC version look like crapola (and I would know, I've got every deco of these molds so far).

UPDATE: Whirl is now sold out too. Impactor is still available to those who ordered the four limbs earlier, before the all important torso was offered.

Lol...I don't believe in luck, but I do believe in persistence. And it paid off for you, no doubt. I left for lunch and came back, about 45 min, and this was the case. Good for you for keeping on the site. I thought it was weird that Impactor was missing and that is why I held out. But, I would rather have a missing arm for now rather than four limbs with nothing to attach to.

I got the two Impactors I needed, but was going to get a whole third set while I was at it (or at least Impactor, Topsin, and Twintwist), but Topsin and Twintwist went out of stock while they were sitting in my cart. I guess I'll try my luck at retail to get that third set.
Why in the world would you want three of each of these? Customs or something?
And BTW, only Impactor is left now. Whirl is sold out. Damn, thats a record. I figured it would be this evening. Not thirty minutes. Surely Hasbro will use that to get these into retail stores ASAP. Not more cases of the DEC 2012 wave.....

I've got multiple displays that could use some Wrecker representation. One display will have the gestalt form and the individual bots together. Yeah, that makes no sense, but it looks nice. I may or may not get a third set now. We'll see.

There may still be hope. There have been three Ultra Magnus figures in what seems like less than a year: FOC, PRID, BH. UM figures like Animated and Titanium before that. Sure Magnus is more well known, but Hasbro will collect money where every they can. They made Classics Onslaught then made FOC. They might continue to create more Wreckers and or the same Wreckers over the years.

I didn't say you weren't allowed to have an opinion.
But looking at the big picture, sorry, but it just comes across as whining. I've been collecting TFs since they first came out. I'm pleasantly AMAZED that TFs has not only survived for all of these years, but THRIVED! Not only that, but HasTak hasn't forgotten us older fans - far from it. They've actually been catering to us by making many series where beloved G1 characters are re-imagined using modern toy making technology (Generations, Universe, Classics, Masterpiece, etc.). To top it off, we now finally have access to characters that were never toys (e.g., Impactor, Orion Pax, etc.).
Besides, if you don't like 'em, don't buy 'em. There are plenty of figures, across all the different TFs series, I'm not into, so I don't buy them. I save money, while TFs fans who do like them are more likely to find them in stores.
Finally, as someone who lived through some absolutely horrible G1 TFs (the latter years in the U.S. continuity especially [e.g., the Pretender Monsters]), these new figures are FAR from being disappointments.

But WTF is with their inventory? How is a Hasbro direct store having so much trouble stocking some of the better figs? And is there any chance TF execs will pay attention to which ones are selling and stop (for the love of GOD) making so many BBs and Optimi?!?
(Just saw the new 16 inch BB/Optimus figs at TRU today, too! WOW, ARE THEY CRAPTACULAR! )

Makes sense to me. Despite the increasing mis-steps and BB/Optimus fetish, Hasbro makes affordable TF's. I buy multiples if I like a certain mold - one can be displayed, one can be played with, one can be given to the destructive toddler (who seems to love TFs above his age group ). I love third-party TF's for their attention to show-accurate detail, but... $40-100 each?! I'm pretty terrified to even touch the ones I have. If you're a displayer, they're great. But I'm not much of a displayer.
Hotrodimust wrote:You should have just waited to find them in stores I've found 8 of each figure already and one sandstorm
Whereabouts are you?! Blitzwing and Springer are pretty rare in IL. I've seen them maybe 2-3 times, in short supply, and usually selling out pretty fast. So maybe you live in one of those lucky States where store managers are generous with inventory and no one cares to buy these. (Still haven't seen a Sandstorm @ retail...)

No sorry I was talking about springer and blitz wing and how u said HTS was out of stock. I never order anything I always find it in store no problem. I already found a sandstorm and I'm not gonna pick up the ruination figures. I do like the colors better than bruticus but the figure as a whole is just horrible IMO. Since I used the set up in the instructions; I threw Whirl's swords above Twin Twist's fist (since his fist cannot hold a weapon) and Whirl's(?) gatling gun in Ruination's other hand. Looks decent.
So yeah, these are pretty good figures for what the original molds are. I'm not buying them again, unless someone like e-hobby paints them all gold and releases it as Emirate Xaaron...

Really covers up the weakest part of the combined mode.

Good to know. I should get my figures in a week or so, ad I'll now be able to make Ruination look less hollow. I do wish Impactor's arms had more of a range of motion....and weren't so puny.
On a related note....does anyone else think that it's interesting that Twin Twist's and Brawl's bios are so similar (both are basically portrayed as rage monsters), and share the same mold? Coincidence? I know Twin Twist in G1 was also a bit of a brawler.
