Before he was released the folks at IDW kept saying about how he was going to be a very important character and Transformers' answer to Wolverine. The hatred mostly stems from a) a new character being prioritised over both existing popular characters or existing obscure characters who would've fit the bill and b) the fact that he seemed like a terrible fanboy wish-fufillment character what with being a badass ninja street-racer who Kup loves.
I've not read the comics myself but apparently he's better than he sounds.

Agreed. The figure is good, if kibbley (not sure what's going on with his chest but hey, whatever) and I have no real connection to the character for good or for bad.
I do like the stylized Kanji and the whole rice-rocket thing going on. It's pretty rare to see a TF like that.

Are you sure you don't have that backwards?
If Prowl and Sideswipe disappointed you while Ratchet and Ironhide wowed you, i guess you wanted angular panel gaps along Drift's sides.
I've never read a comic with Drift in it, but this figure looks like an appropriate interpretation of the character in Earth-mode.
I'll definitely get him on aesthetics alone.

I agree with Blurrz. I can see both Blurr and Arcee in this mold. I wish I'd got into Classics\Universe\Henkei\Generations at the time, but it's too late for that now.
Althogh an Arcee would definately tempt me into getting the mold.

To be fair he does come with three swords, ninja/samurai is his whole schtick and it's hinted that the Blurr retool will come with different weapons (which may or may not be guns).

Like I said before, the first repaint we see of this character will be his former Deception self Deadlock
Then, I'm almost 100% sure we'll see him used as a Botcon mold for next year, regardless of what the theme is. Maybe Snaptrap as a race car, who knows!
However, and on topic, I friggin' love this figure and I do really like the character. Given the release of ROTF figures on my birthday last year, I see wave one of either Generations or Hunt at the end of may. Plus, every year before that something has ALWAYS been released at retail the last two weeks of may. (last year, ROTF was released a week before it was supposed to be at some walmarts, and a year before that it was B.A. & Ratchet from Animated)

Yeah they did. Looks like they removed the paint app on the hilt too...
Regardless, anticipation for this figure just went way up. On second thought no, I don't want it at all!! (so I don't have to fight off scalpers, amirite?). Although these TFClub pics always seem to be photoshopped or something, because they always look reeeeallly nice.

Looks to be the camera angle playing tricks there. I'm more concerned with his two other swords; were they supposed to be that short?
Otherwise, he's still quite nice.

Also, are the weapons storable in either mode? Warbot Defender seems to have spoiled me in that regard...

Nigiri wrote:As awesome as this looks, I'm kind of more excited for the Blurr repaint than I am about this. Still picking up on sight, though.

Yes, the small ones store in scabbards inside his doors, and the long one goes on his back in bot mode. I assume it can store underneath the car or something. Pretty much all modern TFs have weapon storage in vehicle at least, and bot mode storage is becoming increasingly common.

first pics looked good, then the 2nd time I saw pics of the toy it looked quite terrible actually, now I'm back to liking it.
Re: Blurr repaint. I see that working ok in both modes, with a new head. As far as new weapons, maybe a gun or two, but how likely is a repaint/retool of Cyclonus' Targetmaster? That'd be cool.
edit: not seeing the sculpt as Arcee at all though, sorry. If they do a Classics Arcee I want them to do it properly!

These are budget figures so the alt mode isn't gonna have the best finish, the thing that counts the most is the bot mode, and although ironhide suffers from a design flaw which needs to be rectafied at home so that his head flips up properly, he is the best rendition of the character, has a very unique transformation, with loads of kool points, and looks good as a robot, where as prowl and sideswipe, have skinny arms, akward shoulders, or knees or fee, and have not advanced or improved much since there G1 inspired figures, in fact they have created problems which didn't exist on the original figures. They ae still ok and worth having, but compared to ratchet/ironhide they are a let down.

Opinions being what they may, I must say that I really don't think the "budget figures" argument really stands up. Just because they aren't the top-of-the-line, it doesn't mean both modes don't need to be good. I will agree that the bot mode for the IH/Ratchet mold is outstanding, but the alt mode is just a repulsive piece of trash. That should not be considered acceptable in any way/shape/form. I mean, look at the Mirage mold or the Bumblebee mold......those things severely rock, and at the same price point. Oh well. Everyone has their own likes and tastes.

Gandalf wrote:Decent figure for Drift, but not at all for Blurr. I was very disappointed when I read this mold will be used for Blurr. Bot mode is too clunky, and alt mode is way too boring and rounded for our favorite futuristic speedster. I was really hoping Blurr would get his own updated mold.
IMO, this toy looks like it could work as a car version of Tigatron or Cheetor.
