We finally have Masterpiece Optimus Prime's official retail price. After obtaining the UPC number, I was able to look it up in the computer where I work, and found that, as many had believed, he will be retailed at $99.99.
I also found that he will be packaged two per case. Unfortunately, I do not have a release date for him.
See attached pic for proof. It's an actual printout of the screen on our work computers.
So, between him at $99.99, and Thundercracker at $69.99, some of us have an expensive couple of months ahead of us...
The UPC he mentioned, is as follows: 0 653569 77631 4
Toys R Us usually prefers their own internal number, known as a SKN, which is: 863856
If you call and ask for customer service, they can check the SKN (or UPC) to see if they have it in stock and when it might be coming in.

I'd like to get him (and probably Thundercracker too), but he's pretty expensive. Honestly I would have been perfectly happy if they didn't include the trailer, maybe added a little something like Rodimus's Targetmaster, and knocked the price down a bit. I've been lucky so far and got both Grimlock and Rodimus at 40% off, so hopefully I'll be lucky again. That'd take some of the sting off that fat price tag.
I have to be brutally honest here...
This is an affordable and attractive price. The TakaraTomy version easily goes for $250.00, before shipping. We're getting this for $100.00 plus tax. That's less than half of what TakaraTomy wants for it.
Plus, a large number of fans and collectors have wanted Hasbro to give us a trailer. It's something we've wanted, for years. The majority want and desire it and it's a ridiculously good price.
I don't understand why now, when we finally have been given what we've asked for, no one seems to want to pay for it. Everyone wants it cheaper, or wants it at a discount.
Hasbro sees posts like this and rethink their future steps. If this Optimus doesn't sell well, we can pretty much say goodbye to what we want in the future. If they give us what we want now and it doesn't sell and people complain, they'll just ignore us and go for the cheapest option, always, in the future.
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." The many still want a trailer. The many still want a nicely priced figure. This time, we're getting what we want and we should be thankful.
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, I don't mean it to, but posts complaining the price help no one. No one.

unless it makes hasbro lower the prices then the people who couldnt afford to buy for what ever reason will now have the chance to get it, hasbro makes money the people are happy but no bitching about pricing will help no one in the end not at all. You need to think bigger picture not just what you want, thats whats wrong with this fandom its all about the one not the many. Just because you can afford to spend X amount of money on a product doesnt mean the single mother with 2 kids can or the guy that just lost his job or the family thats on a strict budget can too. Bitching about price is not going to effect what hasbro puts out in the least, they are always going to put out what they want its always been that way and it always will be. They might throw us a bone every now and then but only if itll make them money and fits with what they are doing at the time. Last time i checked people still want MP Megatron but we'll never see it and thats just one of many things that we the fans have been asking for that we'll never get. But with that aside bitching about pricing might actually effect their pricing structure and that will benefit everyone (unless it goes the opposite way then everyones fraked but at least then everyone will be in the same boat and that will be beneficial). Not buying their products will help even more but this fandom isnt united well enough to get that ball rolling.

I'm sorry but wether or not this thing sells well Hasbro will do what they please....like charge 4 dollars more for a "delux size toy" but it be damn near the size of a scout. I understand price increases...I really do, but don't skimp on the quality of a figure and jack the price. Wether or not 1 or 1,000,000 people buy this prime Hasbro will do what they will, be it a smart desicion like making a new voyager grimlock...or something completley and utterly stupid...like scaling back the size of all the figures and charging more on top of that. Anyway, figure looks great and I hope everybody enjoys him who is getting him.

MP10 Hasbro for $99.00 is a dream come true for those of us that have been patient. Stop collecting if you can't afford it or do not have the drive to make it happen. NO MORE COMPLAINING. I can't wait for FP's Steel Core...they will be shipping next week.

It's 30$ less then that un-mitigated piece of Garbage known as "Ultimate Prime". not only that, they gave us EVERYTHING, that the Takara version comes with, for nearly 1/3 of the price... ONE THIRD!
I was sitting back thinking, wow, it will be a nice surprise to see this under 150$, but 100$? that's giving it away!
Next thing ya know, people are gonna want Soundwave, with 4 cassettes for 40$, or "ZOMG Ur overpricing us all, evythng shrnkin but ur profats!"

Not too sure about where you are seing all these complaints about his price. People say it sucks they can't afford it, but that doesn't mean they demand it be lowered. And as far as complaining about Hasbro's actions towards the quality of their toys along with their price tag...yeah people have a right to complain about that...you know why...because Hasbro is not an Ommnipitent diety that can do no wrong...if they do some stupid crap, we as fans should be able to call them out on it and say "hey...this is frakkin' stupid...stop it!" As I said earlier, Hasbro is bi-polar in their actions. Either really good or really bad...and honestly nothing we say will do anything about it, because at the end of the day, what we say matters little to them, because we don't make that big an impact on them, which is dumb, but the truth.

That being said, I don't understand this NO COMPLAINING attitude from some people. I mean, we're the customers and don't customers have a right to talk about things they don't like? Anyways, this discussion isn't really going to go anywhere but down so that should probably be the end of it.
But like I said earlier, the price for what we're getting is pretty good, it's just that I don't want half of what we're getting. Think about it this way, FE Bulkhead is coming out soon in the US (and hopefully a second run in Canada) and a good number of people want him, but Hasbro decides that the only way you can get him is by buying him in a 2 pack with Bumblebee. So they put them together and charge $45 for the 2 pack. Now, that's not that bad a price (btw I'm going CAN prices here and Voyagers are $30 and deluxes are about $17), in fact you would save a little money, but you don't want Bumblebee because you already have more than enough of him and you're probably just going to have to sell him or just put him away in a box somewhere. Yes, that's not the best example because the trailer is at least something new, but that's about how I feel about MP Prime, I want one thing but I really don't need the other. I felt the same way about Rodimus, and they just happened to have gone the route of no trailer and cheaper prices. Maybe I just feel like Hasbro spoiled me with that one (though of course, ideally they would have also had a means for the people that did want the trailer to get it).

Megazarak wrote:Oh, don't get me wrong, the price that we're getting is pretty great for what we will get, especially compared to Takara's price. We know this, but what about the parents who would buy this for their kids? You know that movie Optimus with the trailer, I don't know about where you live, but where I am that thing does not sell, even at 50% off. Why? You'd have to ask the people who look at in the store yourself, but I've heard kids say they don't care about the trailer (because it essentially doesn't do anything unless the Optimus is in truck mode), or that the parents say it's too expensive (its a deluxe plus the trailer, and costs $35, that means the trailer is about $20), or that kids mostly just want the robot mode of the figure. I suppose that having to bother to make a trailerless version would probably cost more than they'd feel like paying, but I think it would have been better if they accomodated both sides of the coin. There will be those guys who don't really want the trailer, who when they display their TFs will have them in robot mode. All this trailer is good for then is to sit as a base and take up a ton of space. Available space is also often a problem of which this thing would take a ton. And then there are the parents, who although like to make their kids happy, unless it's Christmas or their birthday, I don't think they're going to pay $100 for a toy. Like I said, the price really isn't that bad, I just have a hard time seeing this thing sell other than to collectors, but I suppose that's why this is a collector dedicated line, though I'm sure Hasbro and TRU, in this case, would be happy if more than just collectors bought it (that way they would also order more, allowing for people to more easily get MP Prime).

If it's anything like MP Hot Rod, it won't be on the shelf long enough for any Moms, or Kids to buy. So i don't think you have to worry about it's price to the general Public.
I had to buy my MP hotrod online because every single one locally was scalped.
if someone doesn't want the trailer, I'm sure there will be people paying a 100$ for just the trailer on eBay, just like people were paying 50-80$ for Hot Rod's Target Master.
Posted by Megazarak on July 24th, 2012 @ 3:40pm CDT
Sucks that you had to buy it online. Hopefully they put up a limit on how many people can buy this time so that it won't be too hard to find. I think I remember someone leaving with 6 or so Grimlocks back when he was around.
But the difference between the Targetmaster is that it was exclusive to the Hasbro version, whereas the trailer is simply a repaint of the Takara one. But who knows, maybe they could sell for a decent price.

Megazarak wrote:Hm, strange, when Rodimus was available here I saw it in stores for months and by the end it was mostly parents who bought them for their kids when they went on sale. They did sell fast early though, but TRU kept ordering more (which I think is what Hasbro would like them to do) and eventually had some overstock. Grimlock is a different story though, he was gone in a week and any more shipments they got were gone the day of.

Grimlock was the same way as Hot Rod here, first case went to employees, second case (if they got one, one of the Two TRU's here only got one case!) went to employees for the local big wig scalpers who pay employees to hold items.
For anyone who is mad at hearing that, I told the employees this time around, if it happens again, I'm going to Corporate. At one point they had (3) Hot Rods in inventory, but none on the shelf. So I went back and opened that rear door, and looked to the left in the employee hold, and sure enough, all three. Hell one employee bothered to tell me he bought all three, one to open, one to leave MISB, and one to sell...
I was like..

TFW is saying that it's been confirmed as a TRU exclusive and the rumor of a wider release was exactly that.
Masterpiece-Optimus-Prime
We have an update on the rumor that we reported on yesterday, regarding the possibility of a wide release for Masterpiece Optimus Prime, the domestic release of Takara-Tomy's MP-10 Convoy Version 2. Contrary to previous reports we have received confirmation from a trusted source at Toys R Us that Masterpiece Optimus Prime will be a Toys R Us exclusive - regrettably if you want to own this one, you will need to camp out at your local TRU stores rather than just waltzing into Walmart.
We apologise for any misdirection caused by our earlier report.

Is your TRU willing to hold a toy for the day? Or a few hours? Worth asking, at any rate.

Not too sure on the quality of the plastic but US$ 100.00 is a virtual steal! I hope we hear less of the bellyaching about, wish the trailer wasn't included or the price is still too high...........sheesh! Take it or leave it!
